Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics Sr2Bi4-xGdxTi5O18 were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method. Pure bismuth layered structural ceramics with uniform gain size were obtained in all samples. The effect of Gd-doping on the dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of Sr2Bi4Ti5O18 ceramics were also investigated. It was found that that Gd3+ dopant gradually decreased the Curie temperature (Tc) with the lower dielectric loss (tand) of SBTi ceramics. In addition, Gd-doping with appropriate content improved the ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the SBTi ceramics. The piezoelectric constant (d33) of the Sr2Bi3.9Gd0.1Ti5O18 ceramic reached the maximum value, which is 22 pC/N. The results showed that the Sr2Bi4-xGdxTi5O18 ceramic was a promising lead-free piezoelectric material.

Here we report the investigations on Sm -substituted PZTFN ( Pb 1-x Sm x Zr 0.588 Ti 0.392 Fe 0.01 Nb 0.01 O 3) (where x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10) polycrystalline solid solutions fabricated by solid-state reaction method. XRD analysis shows all the samples to be single phase with tetragonal structure. Dielectric measurements were carried out in the temperature range 30°C–400°C at different frequencies in the range 100 Hz to 100 kHz. From the temperature variation of dielectric constant (ε), Curie temperature (TC) was determined which was found to decrease with increasing x. The room temperature dielectric constant (ε RT ) initially increases with increasing x and then starts decreasing. Dielectric loss improves with Sm -doping.

Sr2-x(Li2/3, Ce1/3)x Nb2O7 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5) (SLCN) ceramics were prepared by solid-state reaction method. The microstructure, dielectric and ferroelectric properties were investigated. The results show that all ceramics have high relative densities. Li+ and Ce4+ co-doping can promote the grains growing, and improve the dielectric and ferroelectric properties of strontium niobate ceramics. The dielectric constant decreases firstly, and then increases with the increasing of x in Sr2-x(Li2/3, Ce1/3)x Nb2O7, and the sample with x = 0.5 exhibits enhanced dielectric properties (εr ≈ 250, tanδ ≈ 0.02). The remnant polarization (Pr) and coercive electric field (Ec) of SLCN ceramics increase firstly, and then decrease with the increasing of Li+ and Ce4+ content, finally reach the maximum value of remnant polarization (Pr ≈ 0.058μC/cm2, Ec ≈ 6.87 kV/cm ) for x = 0.2.

A Ca, Sr double-doped La2/3(Ca2/3Sr1/3)1/3MnO3 thin film with a thickness of about 60~nm was deposited on (100) LaAlO3 substrates using the RF magnetron sputtering method from the bulk compound prepared using the solid-state reaction method. The experimental results show that a phase transition from the ferromagnetic metallic state to the paramagnetic insulating state occurs at 341 K (near to Tp, the highest peak temperature). The R–T curve deviation of the thin film with the application of CW laser is dramatic in the low-temperature range and Δ R/R is positive. At 276 K, the Δ R/R reaches the maximum, about 41 %, and the temperature of the photo-induced resistance maximum of this double-doped thin film appears near to room temperature range, which offers a new method for the application of CMR photo-electric devices.PACS Nos.: 78.66.–w, 81.07–b

In this paper, for the purpose of enhancement in the magnetic behavior, the five-layer Aurivillius phase structure Bi6Fe2-xCoxTi3O18 (BFCT-x, x = 0.0 ~ 2.0) ceramics were synthesized using the solid-state reaction method from a mixture of Bi2O3, Co2O3, Fe2O3, and TiO2 powders with different stoichiometric ratio. The microstructure, ferromagnetic and ferroelectric properties are investigated. The crystallographic structures of BFCT-x are determined to be the typical five-layer Aurivillius phase with a suggested structural transformation at heavy doping of Co ions. At room temperature, the remnant magnetization (2Mr) of BFCT-0.0, BFCT-0.6, BFCT-1.0 and BFCT-2.0 samples are 0.043 memu/g, 0.59 emu/g, 0.81 emu/g and 1.75 memu/g, respectively. The 2Mr, at first, gradually enhance and reach a greatest value of 0.81 emu/g at x = 1.0 then degrade again with the increasing of the ratio x. At room temperature, the samples have ferroelectricity, which the remnant polarization (2Pr) of the BFCT-0.0 , BFCT-0.6, BFCT-1.0 and BFCT-2.0 samples are 2.8 μC/cm2, 8.0 μC/cm2, 3.0 μC/cm2 and 7.2 μC/cm2 respectively. The 2Pr first increases, then decreases and increases again with Co doping. When x = 0.6, the 2Pr reaches a maximum value of 8.0 μC/cm2.

Abstract Relaxer ferroelectrics are highly attractive in electrocaloric due to large breakdown electric field and wide phase transition temperatures, which has great potential applications in solid-state cooling. In this work, relaxer ferroelectrics are synthesized by a traditional solid state reaction method. Phase transition and relaxer characteristics are studied by temperature dependent dielectric spectrums. Temperature dependent ferroelectric properties are also studied to calculate electrocaloric effect. Maximum value of refrigeration efficiency η ( ΔT/ΔE ) is about 0.079 K·cm/kV, our result lays a foundation and provides a reference for studying high efficiency solid-state electrocaloric refrigeration. Pyroelectric energy harvesting are studied, maximum pyroelectric energy harvesting is 279 kJ/cm 3 .

Pure and Hf-doped BaZr0.2Ti0.8O3(short for BZT) ceramics are prepared by a conventional solid state reaction method. The crystal structure and dielectric properties of Hf-doped BZT ceramics have been investigated. The results indicate that Hf4+ ions have entered the unit cell maintaining the perovskite structure of solid solution and the pure and Hf-doped BZT ceramics are cubic phase. Addition of hafnium leads to the fall of the phase transition temperature and can decrease the dielectric loss of BZT ceramics at room temperature. When Hf content is more than 0.5 wt.%, the diffuseness of the phase transition enhances with the increasing of Hf content and when Hf content is 3 wt.%, the diffuseness of Hf-doped BZT ceramics is more than that of the pure BZT ceramics.

CaCu 3 Ti 4 O 12 ( CCTO ) ceramics were prepared by the solid-state reaction route. Effect of sintering time was studied on the polarization (P) versus electric field (E) behavior. Unlike conventional ferroelectric hysteresis loop, PE hysteresis behavior in CCTO ceramics was observed to exhibit ferroelectric-like loop where polarization does not saturate but gives a maximum value. Remnant polarization and maximum polarization was observed to increase with sintering time. Current (I)–voltage (V) characteristics shows a nonlinear behavior making them useful for varistor applications. Coefficient of non-linearity (α) is also found to depend on sintering duration.
