Hydrophobic silver nanoparticles have been carried out by use of ascorbic acid in cyclohexylamine and aqueous medium. Nanosilver can be effectively coated with oleic acid and possesses oil-soluble property. Oleic acid as an extractant is also effective at stabilizing particles of similar size in an oil phase when the AgNO3 is reduced in a coexisting aqueous phase. Stable spherical silver nanoparticles 15~25 nm in diameter with a well-crystallized structure were obtained at 120 °C. The thermal stability of surface-coated silver prepared in cyclohexylamine solution was monitored by UV-vis spectral analysis.

This paper presents the thermal stability of the oleic acid encapsulated in a- and b - cyclodextrin. The complexation of the oleic acid was achieved by the ethanol-water solution method and the nanoparticles were analyzed by DSC. The free oleic acid and the encapsulated one were subjected to the thermal degradation in the range of 50-150C and the degradation products were identified and quantified by GC-MS analysis of the fatty acid esters obtained by deriving with methanol/boron trifluoride, both for free compounds and for the encapsulated ones. The oleic acid complexes were very stable in this range of temperature.

Edible films were prepared using soy protein isolate (4g/100g), oleic acid (0-2g/100g) and stearic acid (0-2g/100g). Effects of the type and ratio of fatty acids (oleic acid and stearic acid) on the thermal properties of soybean protein isolate-based films were investigated. The results indicated that the addition of oleic acid and stearic acid take a significant effect on the thermal stability of soybean protein isolate-based films, as may attribute to that oleic acid is an amphiphilic substance that interacts with both polar and hydrophobic sites on proteins, thus it could improve the functional properties of the films. Besides, the solid state and hydrophobic nature of stearic acid could help limit water diffusion in the matrix more efficiently when it is well-integrated in the matrix through the surfactant action of oleic acid.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber is a very versatile fiber that can be produced with different properties, such as antimicrobial activity. This study aims to synthesize antimicrobial PET filaments incorporated with silver nanoparticles immobilized in silica (NPAg-Si) by bulk additive method. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) characterized the obtained filaments at concentrations (w/w) of 0.008%, 0.016%, 0.032%, 0.047% and 0.063% NPAg-Si, in order to identify the nanoparticles and analyze their dispersion in the polymeric matrix. Moreover, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was carry out to confirm the presence and concentration of the silver nanoparticles in the filaments as well as the thermal stability of the nanocomposites. The bulk addition method was efficient to produce PET-Silver filaments with silver nanoparticles homogeneously dispersed in the PET matrix.
