Microwave absorption characteristics of double layer of barium hexaferrite attached on the silica to from a composite on the basis of wave propagation theory have been investigated. Barium hexaferrite, BaFe12O19, was synthesized through ceramic method from stoichiometric mixtures of BaCO3 and Fe2O3 as precursors. The mixture was pelletized under the pressure of 10 MPa and sintered at 1100 °C for 5 hours. Silica in the forms of powder was purified by using HCl. The crystal structure of the samples was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), microstructure was examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), hysteresis curves recorded by PERMAGRAPH techniques, whereas the microwave absorbing properties for X-band was recorded using a vector network analyzer (VNA). Relative complex permeability and permittivity, and reflection loss values were calculated at given thickness according to transmittance line theory within the range 8.2–12.4 GHz. Based on this study, the layer dimension and frequency that results in low reflection loss can be estimated from the material properties of the barium hexaferrite/silica composite material.

In this report, we demonstrate microwave absorption properties of barium hexaferrite, doped barium hexaferrite, titanium dioxide and conducting carbon black based RADAR absorbing material for stealth application. Double-layer absorbers are prepared with a top layer consisting of 30% hexaferrite and 10% titanium dioxide while the bottom layer composed of 30% hexaferrite and 10% conducting carbon black, embedded in chloroprene matrix. The top and bottom layers are prepared as impedance matching layer and conducting layer, respectively, with a total thickness of 2 mm. Microwave absorption properties of all the composites were analyzed in X-band region. Maximum reflection loss of −32 dB at 10.64 GHz was observed for barium hexaferrite based double-layer absorber whereas for doped barium hexaferrite based absorber the reflection loss was found to be −29.56 dB at 11.7 GHz. A consistence reflection loss value (>−24 dB) was observed for doped barium hexaferrite based RADAR absorbing materials within the entire bandwidth.

In this paper presents nano-composites based on polyester (PE) matrix with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as fillers have been developed for microwave absorbing materials. The MWCNTs/PE composite samples were fabricated with different weight ratio of MWCNTs (3 wt%, 5 wt%, and 10 wt%). The electromagnetic properties of different MWCNTs/PE composite have been determined by using rectangular waveguide technique and Agilent material measurement software. Moreover, the reflection loss (microwave absorption) of MWCNTs/PE composite have been calculated based on the basis of transmission line theory. The performance of electromagnetic properties and microwave absorption of MWCNTs/PE composite were analyzed in X-band frequency. The dielectric loss properties of the composite are increse with increasing in MWCNTs weight ratio. The microwave absorption results show that such 3 wt% MWCNTs/PE composites sample with 4 mm thickness has achieved less than -10 dB values (< 90 % microwave absorption) of reflection loss.

Microwave absorption properties of double layer magnetic absorbers based on BaFe12O19 (BFO) and BaFe10CoZnO19 (BFCZO) have been investigated in X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz) frequencies. The BFO and BFCZO were prepared by using a solid state reaction process. The crystalline structures were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), The complex permittivity and permeability are determined using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) in a range from 8.2 GHz to 12.4 GHz. The double layer magnetic absorbers, composed of the BFO as matching layer and the BFCZO as absorption layer, with a total thickness of 5 mm, showed an effective reflection loss (RL) an effective absorbing bandwidth below –5 dB.

In order to enhance a new microwave absorbing capabilities in the X-band frequency range, polycrystalline magnetic materials of BaFe12O19 barium hexaferrite were fabricated through conventional ceramic method and the Fe3O4 powder from iron sand were prepared through magnetic separation after milling process by using planetary ball mill. Microwave absorbing capabilities of multilayer absorbers, composed of BaFe12O19 barium hexaferrite and the Fe3O4 powder, with a total thickness of 10 mm, were investigated by a vector network analyzer (VNA) in the range of 8.2 –12.4 GHz. According to transmission line theory, reflection of microwave radiations from multilayer magnetic materials is calculated. The reflection loss (RL) strongly depends on thickness of multilayer absorbers and showed an optimal RL. Keywords : BaFe12O19, Fe3O4 powder, reflection loss, multilayer absorbers.

Monodisperse CoFe2O4and Co0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4hollow nanospheres were synthesized in large scale by solvothermal method in ethylene glycol solution. The structure, shape and size of the samples were investigated by Fourier Transform infrared, X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that the products are spherical with an average diameter less than 200 nm. Magnetic studies revealed that the saturation magnetization of Co0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4is 78.6 emu/g, higher than the CoFe2O4, which is 69 emu/g, while the coercivity of the Co0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4is 184 Oe , obviously lower than that of CoFe2O4which is 832 Oe. The electromagnetic parameters were measured at 2-18 GHz using HP8722ES vector network analyzer and then the microwave absorption properties were calculated through the transmission line theory. As to the Co0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4, the absorption bandwidth with reflection loss below-10 dB is up to 3GHz, from 10GHz to 13GHz with a thickness of 2 mm. A maximum reflection loss-45.6 dB was found at 12.9 GHz for the CoFe2O4with a thickness of 1.8 mm. As a result, the as-prepared hollow nanospheres show good prospects of being applied in EM wave absorption materials.

The effect of Ti2+-Mn4+substitution on microwave absorption has been studied for BaFe12-2xTixMnxO19 ferrite, where x varies from 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8.Ti2+-Mn4+ ions were obtained from TiO and MnO2 precursors which were mechanically alloyed together with BaCO3 and Fe2O3 precursors. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns for sintered samples confirmed that the materials are consisted with single phase BHF structure. Unit cell volume and crystallite size was found increase with increasing x. Crystallite size for all samples below 70 nm, but the grain morphology shown that the grains is in range of 200 - 400 nm, which concluded that each grain are polycrystalline. The saturation magnetization is increases up to x = 0.4 and decrease for higher x values, while the coercivity remains decreases monotonically. These results were interpreted in terms of the site preferential occupation of Ti2+ and Mn4+ at low level substitution. These substitution revealed of enhanced reflection loss (RL) up to 25 dB forx=0.6.It suggested that the synthesized can be employed as effective microwave absorbers in various devices.

Behavioral characterization of radar absorbent material consisting of Polyaniline (PaNi) and Barium M-Hexaferrite (BaM) has been successfully synthesized by solid state method. Polyaniline conductive material was synthesized using the polymerization method with DBSA dopant. A Radar Absorbing Materials (RAM) is characterized by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Four Point Probe (FPP), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The ion Zn 2+ is dopping into the BAM structure, where Zn 2+ ions replace Fe2+ ions in Hexaferrite barium so that the phase becomes soft magnetic materials . RAM and PANi particles are combined with ship paint to form radar wave absorbent coatings. The layer is coated with multilayer geometry on AH 36 type A steel, with thicknesses of 2.4 mm, 3.6 mm, 4.8 mm and 6 mm respectively. The X-band wave absorption was identified by VNA testing, where the maximum reflection loss value was found at 6mm thickness with a reflection loss value - 32.6 dB at 8.4 GHz frequency. Reflection loss values of multilayer variations with a thickness of 2.4 mm, 3.6mm and 4.8mm each have reflection loss values of -8.02 dB, -19.13 dB and -28.9 dB respectively in the x band frequency range.
