Compared with the traditional air spraying technique and electroplate method, the coating defects of bonded NdFeB magnet, such as the workpiece hanging point, the pinhole, the bubble, have been solved by using the composite powder electrostatic spraying as surface treatment technology, along with the EE epoxy paint as primer coating and PU polyurethane paint as surface coating. The coating of this composite powder electrostatic spraying is uniform and compact, and the coating has strong adhesion and corrosion resistance. This paper gives a detailed introduction to the composite powder electrostatic spraying, including the choice of some important parameters and the unique hanging tools of composite powder electrostatic spraying.

This paper presents the concept of modification of physicochemical properties of steels by simultaneous diffusion saturation with carbon and chromium or aluminum. The application of a hybrid surface treatment process consisting of a combination of aluminizing and low-pressure carburizing (Al + LPC) resulted in a reduction in the amount of retained austenite in the surface layer of the steel. While the use of chromium plating and low-pressure carburizing (Cr + LPC) induced an improvement in the corrosion resistance of the carburized steels. It is of particular importance in case of vacuum processes after the application of which the active surface corrodes easily, as well as in case of carburizing of low-alloy steel with nickel, where an increased content of retained austenite in the surface layer is found after carburizing.

One of the main reasons for the damage of reinforced concrete is the expansion caused by corrosion of steel bar in concrete. In this paper, the equivalent circuit that inflects corrosion process of steel bars in reinforced concrete was analyzed, with the A.C.Impedance Spectrum method. And the effects of surface treatment of the bars on corrosion resistance of the reinforced concrete were investigated. Study results show that the surface coating (plating) on the built-in reinforcement can effectively prevent corrosion of steel bar, thereby enhancing the durability of concrete structures.

Generally, the welding HAZ is more sensitive to corrosion. In order to increase the corrosion resistance of the welding HAZ in aircraft structures, the laser surface treatment technology was used to treat the welding HAZ. In this study, the processing parameters of the laser surface treatment were optimized. According to our study, the laser quenching can increase the corrosion resistance property obviously. The laser surface treatment new technique has been used in the maintenance of the airplane structures, which has better application outlook.

In order to improve the corrosion resistance of sintered NdFeB magnet, experiments are done by the new process which involves ultrasonic electroforming Ni–P alloys. The influence of ultrasonic on electroforming Ni–P alloy on NdFeB was studied by using microscope, adhesion test and NaCl solution immersion test. The results showed that the Ni–P alloy deposit on NdFeB is rough and has poor adhesion without ultrasonic agitation; However, the Ni–P alloy deposit on NdFeB with ultrasonic agitation has the following advantages: uniform and smooth deposit grains, strong adhesion and good corrosion resistance.

The objective of these two works is to show how a series of principles and concepts of Physics are applied (which are taught in the areas of Basic Sciences in Engineering careers), in various processes that are used to modify the surface of materials and thus provide them with improved properties particularly related to wear, fatigue and corrosion resistance, with the purpose that engineering students have greater evidence of practical applications and, therefore, of the importance of Physics for development of these technologies. As an example, in this first article, the Thermal Spray processes are presented and it is shown how Physics concepts are applied and have a prominent role both in the design and in the construction of the equipment with which they are made, as well as in the own generation of surface treatments. This is intended to give a sample and evidence the usefulness of Physics in this type of process to both students and teachers.

Detail parts of airframe should have higher precision and lightweight to satisfy the requirements of safety, payload, and controllability. Due to requirement of lightweight, aluminum alloy is widely used in airframe parts. Anodizing process is an important surface treatment process uses to prevent corrosion in aluminum parts. Salt spray is the critical test to verify the anodizing process of aluminum alloy and ensure the corrosion resistance can meet the requirement of specification. This study collects the failure time of salt spray and uses statistical method to construct the suitable probability distribution of those failure data. Furthermore, analyzes the failure time of salt spray and evaluate the reliability of anodizing process. Thereby the process control engineer can use the concept of reliability to monitor the anodizing process.
