The transition from the control phase to elimination of malaria in China through the national malaria elimination programme has focussed attention on the need for improvement of the surveillance- response systems. It is now understood that routine passive surveillance is inadequate in the parasite elimination phase that requires supplementation by active surveillance in foci where cluster cases have occurred. This study aims to explore the spatial clusters and temporal trends of malaria cases by the multivariate auto-regressive state-space model (MARSS) along the border to Myanmar in southern China. Data for indigenous cases spanning the period from 2007 to 2010 were extracted from the China’s Infectious Diseases Information Reporting Management System (IDIRMS). The best MARSS model indicated that malaria transmission in the study area during 36 months could be grouped into three clusters. The estimation of malaria transmission patterns showed a downward trend across all clusters. The proposed methodology used in this study offers a simple and rapid, yet effective way to categorize patterns of foci which provide assistance for active monitoring of malaria in the elimination phase.

This paper presents a time-domain method to identify a state space model of a linear system and its corresponding observer/Kalman filter from a given set of general input-output data. The identified filter has the properties that its residual is minimized in the least squares sense, orthogonal to the time-shifted versions of itself, and to the given input-output data sequences. The connection between the state space model and a particular auto-regressive moving average description of a linear system is made in terms of the Kalman filter and a deadbeat gain matrix. The procedure first identifies the Markov parameters of an observer system, from which a state space model of the system and the filter gain are computed. The developed procedure is shown to improve results obtained by an existing observer/Kalman filter identification method, which is based on an auto-regressive model without the moving average terms. Numerical and experimental results are presented to illustrate the proposed method.

Photovoltaic (PV) power systems are increasingly being used as renewable power generation sources. Quasi-Z-source inverters (qZSI) are a recent, high-potential technology that can be used to integrate PV power systems into AC networks. Simultaneously, concerns regarding the stability of PV power systems are increasing. Converters reduce the damping of grid-connected converter systems, leading to instability. Several studies have analyzed the stability and dynamics of qZSI, although the characterization of qZSI-PV system dynamics in order to study transient interactions and stability has not yet been properly completed. This paper contributes a small-signal, state-space-averaged model of qZSI-PV systems in order to study these issues. The model is also applied to investigate the stability of PV power systems by analyzing the influence of system parameters. Moreover, solutions to mitigate the instabilities are proposed and the stability is verified using PSCAD time domain simulations.

In this article, a novel approach for model-based sensor fault detection and estimation of gas turbine is presented. The proposed method includes driving a state-space model of gas turbine, designing a novel L1-norm Lyapunov-based observer, and a decision logic which is based on bank of observers. The novel observer is designed using multiple Lyapunov functions based on L1-norm, reducing the estimation noise while increasing the accuracy. The L1-norm observer is similar to sliding mode observer in switching time. The proposed observer also acts as a low-pass filter, subsequently reducing estimation chattering. Since a bank of observers is required in model-based sensor fault detection, a bank of L1-norm observers is designed in this article. Corresponding to the use of the bank of observers, a two-step fault detection decision logic is developed. Furthermore, the proposed state-space model is a hybrid data-driven model which is divided into two models for steady-state and transient conditions, according to the nature of the gas turbine. The model is developed by applying a subspace algorithm to the real field data of SGT-600 (an industrial gas turbine). The proposed model was validated by applying to two other similar gas turbines with different ambient and operational conditions. The results of the proposed approach implementation demonstrate precise gas turbine sensor fault detection and estimation.

Abstract The modeling of counter-current leaching plant (CCLP) in Koryo Extract Production is presented in this paper. Koryo medicine is a natural physic to be used for a diet and the medical care. The counter-current leaching method is mainly used for producing Koryo medicine. The purpose of the modeling in the previous works is to indicate the concentration distributions, and not to describe the model for the process control. In literature, there are no nearly the papers for modeling CCLP and especially not the presence of papers that have described the issue for extracting the effective components from the Koryo medicinal materials. First, this paper presents that CCLP can be shown like the equivalent process consisting of two tanks, where there is a shaking apparatus, respectively. It allows leachate to flow between two tanks. Then, this paper presents the principle model for CCLP and the state space model on based it. The accuracy of the model has been verified from experiments made at CCLP in the Koryo Extract Production at the Gang Gyi Koryo Manufacture Factory.
