AbstractThe first part of this paper gives a recent overview (until July 1st, 1998) of the Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs) database stored at Minor Planet Center. Some statistical interpretations point out strong observational biases in the population of discovered NEAs, due to the preferential discoveries, depending on the objects’ distances and sizes. It is known that many newly discovered NEAs have no accurately determinated orbits because of the lack of observations. Consequently, it is hard to speak about future encounters and collisions with the Earth in terms of mutual distances between bodies. Because the dynamical evolution of asteroids’ orbits is less sensitive to the improvement of their orbital elements, we introduced a new subclass of NEAs named Earth-encounter asteroids in order to describe more reliably the potentially dangerous bodies as impactors with the Earth. So, we pay attention at those asteroids having an encounter between their orbits and that of the Earth within 100 years, trying to classify these encounters.

The research objective is to analyze the direct impact of leadership toward transfer knowledge and work effectiveness in Boven Digoel. Data analysis in this research is quantitative using a path analysis model (path analysis) with the help of Smart PLS Software version 3.2 .8. The research distributed questionnaires to 89 respondents of officers assigned at the secretariat office in Boven Digoel Regency. On the basis of statistical results, it was found that leadership can be said to have impacted positively and significant knowledge transfer and work effectiveness. The knowledge transfer also has a positive impact on work effectiveness.

AbstractTransportation problem (TP) is a popular branch of Linear Programming Problem in the field of Transportation engineering. Over the years, attempts have been made in finding improved approaches to solve the TPs. Recently, in Quddoos et al. (Int J Comput Sci Eng (IJCSE) 4(7): 1271–1274, 2012), an efficient approach, namely ASM, is proposed for solving crisp TPs. However, it is found that ASM fails to provide better optimal solution in some cases. Therefore, a new and efficient ASM appoach is proposed in this paper to enhance the inherent mechanism of the existing ASM method to solve both crisp TPs and Triangular Intuitionistic Fuzzy Transportation Problems (TIFTPs). A least-looping stepping-stone method has been employed as one of the key factors to improve the solution quality, which is an improved version of the existing stepping-stone method (Roy and Hossain in, Operation research Titus Publication, 2015). Unlike stepping stone method, least-looping stepping-stone method only deals with few selected non-basic cells under some prescribed conditions and hence minimizes the computational burden. Therefore, the framework of the proposed method (namely LS-ASM) is a combination of ASM (Quddoos et al. 2012) and least-looping stepping-stone approach. To validate the performance of LS-ASM, a set of six case studies and a real-world problem (those include both crisp TPs and TIFTPs) have been solved. The statistical results obtained by LS-ASM have been well compared with the existing popular modified distribution (MODI) method and the original ASM method, as well. The statistical results confirm the superiority of the LS-ASM over other compared algorithms with a less computationl effort.

Background: The objective of our project was to identify a late recanalization predictor in ruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with coil embolization. This goal was achieved by means of a statistical analysis followed by a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with porous media modelling approach. Porous media CFD simulated the hemodynamics within the aneurysmal dome after coiling. Methods: Firstly, a retrospective single center analysis of 66 aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage patients was conducted. The authors assessed morphometric parameters, packing density, first coil volume packing density (1st VPD) and recanalization rate on digital subtraction angiograms (DSA). The effectiveness of initial endovascular treatment was visually determined using the modified Raymond–Roy classification directly after the embolization and in a 6- and 12-month follow-up DSA. In the next step, a comparison between porous media CFD analyses and our statistical results was performed. A geometry used during numerical simulations based on a patient-specific anatomy, where the aneurysm dome was modelled as a separate, porous domain. To evaluate hemodynamic changes, CFD was utilized for a control case (without any porosity) and for a wide range of porosities that resembled 1–30% of VPD. Numerical analyses were performed in Ansys CFX solver. Results: A multivariate analysis showed that 1st VPD affected the late recanalization rate (p < 0.001). Its value was significantly greater in all patients without recanalization (p < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curves governed by the univariate analysis showed that the model for late recanalization prediction based on 1st VPD (AUC 0.94 (95%CI: 0.86–1.00) is the most important predictor of late recanalization (p < 0.001). A cut-off point of 10.56% (sensitivity—0.722; specificity—0.979) was confirmed as optimal in a computational fluid dynamics analysis. The CFD results indicate that pressure at the aneurysm wall and residual flow volume (blood volume with mean fluid velocity > 0.01 m/s) within the aneurysmal dome tended to asymptotically decrease when VPD exceeded 10%. Conclusions: High 1st VPD decreases the late recanalization rate in ruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with coil embolization (according to our statistical results > 10.56%). We present an easy intraoperatively calculable predictor which has the potential to be used in clinical practice as a tip to improve clinical outcomes.

A multitude of factors, ranging from environmental to ideological, determine where human settlements are placed on the landscape. In archaeological contexts, finding the reasons behind settlement choice can be very difficult and often requires the use of ethnographic analogies and/or modeling in a geographic information system (GIS). Archaeologists have used one particular GIS-based method, viewshed analysis, to examine site features such as defensibility and control over economic hinterlands. I use viewshed analysis in this case study to determine how the natural and political landscapes affected the settlement location choices of the Late Woodland and early Historic Onondaga Iroquois. Proximity to critical resources and defensibility both factored into the decision of where communities would place villages. Although this study shows that resources, such as productive soils, had a more significant effect on settlement choice, Iroquois communities were also taking measures to maintain the defensibility of their villages. This examination displays how GIS analyses in archaeology can go beyond the statistical results and help us understand past behavior.
