This research work investigates pragmatic transfers in Okedokun’s Mopelola: The Tale of a Beauty Goddess. It aims at identifying, analyzing and interpreting pragmatic features through which specific meanings are conveyed in the selected play. In the attempt to reach this goal, the data are randomly collected from the whole play on the basis of a quantitative method. Then, the statistical results are qualitatively discussed and interpreted in terms of their frequency distribution. The findings show a predominance of pragmatic transfer of loan words representing 33.33% followed by proverbs 32.14% and loan-blends 16.16%. Transfers of greetings, insults and apology are low as they represent respectively 3.57%, 3.57%, and 2.38% whereas other transfers such as request, gratitude, offer, blaming/reproaching and advice are almost nonexistent. The high proportions of loan words as well as proverbs suggest the author’s determination to value Yoruba culture and tradition. The almost important proportion of loan-blends constitutes a strategy for the author to attract readers’ attention on the various authentic Yoruba expressions. The presence of transfer in greetings stresses the peculiarity of Yoruba culture characterized by the expression of profound respect to elderly people. On the other hand, the presence of insults indicates that though Yoruba culture is characterized by the expression of profound respect, some Yoruba people, as the black sheep, do develop arrogance in contradiction to their culture.

AbstractThe pandemic has hit the tourism industry in various ways. P2P accommodation (P2PA) is one of most disrupted sectors. Different types of P2PA hosts are confronting different levels of challenges. From an angle of social equity, the study adopted a resilience model to examine the resilience of P2PA hosts’ business during the first COVID outbreak in Florida, USA. Statistical results show P2PA hosts’ business resilience negatively associates with their housing liability and hosting experience. Social superiority in owning more assets can be a defect in coping with COVID crisis. P2PA operators need to maintain an appropriate level of financial flexibility when faced with the threat of COVID outbreaks. We suggest the government and industrial organizations to distinguish the types of P2PA operators when carrying out rescue plans for the industry.

The research aims to study the optimum conditions for germination of Syrian hard wheat Cham 3, and to study the possibility of benefiting from sprouted wheat in fortifying Syrian Arab bread. The results were then treated statistically at the 95% reliability level using the Minitab program version 14. 0. It was evident through the statistical results that the optimum germination conditions for Syrian durum wheat Sham 3 is a temperature of 20 °C for a period of 4 days, as with these conditions the folic acid content reached 1. 75 mg / kg, which is approximately 13 times the folic acid content of meal wheat without sprouting (0. 135 mg / kg). By studying the rheological properties of flour and meal using Alveograph and Mixolab, it was noticed that germination led to a decrease in the strength of meal wheat. Where all the Alveograph indicators (P, L, G, W) and Mixolabs (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, DDT) of germinated wheat significantly decreased compared to both flour and non-germinated meal. It was found that the possibility of benefiting from the Syrian sprouted wheat in fortifying the Syrian Arab bread, and the best percentage of adding crushed wheat sprouts to the Arabic bread is 40%, as it gave a sensory acceptable Arabic bread in terms of texture, separability, foldability and in terms of physical properties. The benefiting from the Syrian sprouted wheat in fortifying the Syrian Arab bread is possible, and the best percentage of adding sprouted wheat meal to the Arabic bread is 40%, as it gives a sensory acceptable Arabic bread in terms of texture, separability, foldability and in terms of physical properties.

The ability to read the Qur'an at this time is very concerning because there are so many students who have not been able to read hijaiyah letters which is the basis for being able to read the Qur'an. Therefore, the Master should strive to provide the learning of the Qur'an with the proper methods. The purpose of this study was to find out the influence of the Ottoman rasm method on the smooth and understanding of reading the Qur'an of students. The methods in this study use an ex-Postfactoquantitative research approach. The results of this study are the ottoman rasm method is quite good towards the smooth reading of the Qur'an with statistical results obtained in 2023, while the ottoman rasm method of understanding falls into the moderate category with an overall average of 59%. There is a significant influence between the ottoman rasm method on the smooth reading of the Qur'an students at SDN Kedung Badak 3 Bogor City which includes a strong correlation between the ottoman rasm method and the smooth reading of the Qur'an students with statistical results obtained 0.721 which ranged from 0.60-0.799 and there was no significant influence between the ottoman rasm method on the understanding of reading the Qur'an students in SDN Kedung Badak 3 Bogor City including a very low correlation between the correlation between the ottoman rasm methods on the understanding of reading the Qur'an students in SDN Kedung Badak 3 Bogor City including a very low correlation between the Ottoman rasm method towards the understanding of reading Al-Qyour'an students with statistical results obtained 0.111 which ranges from 0.00-0.199 Keywords: Ottoman Rasm Method; smoothness; understanding

AbstractScholarly books are important outputs in some fields and their many publishing formats seem to introduce opportunities to scrutinize their impact. As there is a growing interest in the publisher-enforced massive collection of ebooks in libraries in the past decade, this study examined how this influences the relationship that library print holdings (LPH), library electronic holdings (LEH) and total library holdings (TLH) have with other metrics. As a follow up study to a previous research on OCLC library holdings, the relationship between library holdings and twelve other metrics including Scopus Citations, Google Books (GB) Citations, Goodreads engagements, and Altmetric indicators were examined for 119,794 Scopus-indexed book titles across 26 fields. Present study confirms the weak correlation levels observed between TLH and other indicators in previous studies and contributes additional evidence that print holdings can moderately reflect research, educational and online impact of books consistently more efficient than eholdings and total holdings across fields and over time, except for Mendeley for which eholdings slightly prevailed. Regression models indicated that along with other dimensions, Google Books Citations frequently best explained LPH (in 14 out of 26 fields), whereas Goodreads User counts were weak, but the best predictor of both LEH and TLH (in 15 fields out of 26), suggesting significant association of eholdings with online uptake of books. Overall, findings suggest that inclusion of eholdings overrides the more impactful counts of print holdings in Total Library Holdings metric and therefore undermines the statistical results, whilst print holdings has both statistically and theoretically promising underlying assumptions for prediction of impact of books and shows greater promise than the general Library Holding metric for book impact assessment. Thus, there is a need for a distinction between print and electronic holding counts to be made, otherwise total library holding data need to be interpreted with caution.

Abstract What is the average lifespan in a stationary population viewed at a single moment in time? Even though periods and cohorts are identical in a stationary population, we show that the answer to this question is not life expectancy but a length-biased version of life expectancy. That is, the distribution of lifespans of the people alive at a single moment is a self-weighted distribution of cohort lifespans, such that longer lifespans have proportionally greater representation. One implication is that if death rates are unchanging, the average lifespan of the current population always exceeds period life expectancy. This result connects stationary population lifespan measures to a well-developed body of statistical results; provides new intuition for established demographic results; generates new insights into the relationship between periods, cohorts, and prevalent cohorts; and offers a framework for thinking about mortality selection more broadly than the concept of demographic frailty.

In this paper, a lightweight channel-wise attention model is proposed for the real-time detection of five representative pig postures: standing, lying on the belly, lying on the side, sitting, and mounting. An optimized compressed block with symmetrical structure is proposed based on model structure and parameter statistics, and the efficient channel attention modules are considered as a channel-wise mechanism to improve the model architecture.The results show that the algorithm’s average precision in detecting standing, lying on the belly, lying on the side, sitting, and mounting is 97.7%, 95.2%, 95.7%, 87.5%, and 84.1%, respectively, and the speed of inference is around 63 ms (CPU = i7, RAM = 8G) per postures image. Compared with state-of-the-art models (ResNet50, Darknet53, CSPDarknet53, MobileNetV3-Large, and MobileNetV3-Small), the proposed model has fewer model parameters and lower computation complexity. The statistical results of the postures (with continuous 24 h monitoring) show that some pigs will eat in the early morning, and the peak of the pig’s feeding appears after the input of new feed, which reflects the health of the pig herd for farmers.

Surround modulation is a phenomenon whereby costimulation of the extra-classical receptive field and classical receptive field would modulate the visual responses induced individually by classical receptive field. However, there lacks systematic study about surround modulation properties existing in avian optic tectum. In this study, neuronal activities are recorded from pigeon optic tectum, and the responses to moving and flashed squares and bars of different sizes are compared. The statistical results showed that most tectal neurons presented surround suppression as stimuli size grew larger both in moving and flashed paradigms, and the suppression degree induced by larger flashed square was comparable with that by moving one when it crossed near the cell’s RF center, which corresponds to fully surrounding condition. The suppression degree grew weaker when the stimuli move across the RF border, which corresponds to partially surrounding condition. Meanwhile, the fully surround suppression induced by flashed square was also more intense than partially surrounded by flashed bars. The results provide new insight for understanding the spatial arrangement of lateral inhibitions from feedback or feedforward streams, which would help to make clear the generation mechanism of surround modulation found in avian optic tectum.
