This study investigates how the cultural identity of a Muslim woman with hijab (hair scarf) is perceived in Second Life (SL), a virtual and visual cultural site, through a case study that the author experienced during this research. The findings reflect different levels of reaction leaning more toward rejection and indifference rather than acceptance. I conclude that there is a need to establish an educational curriculum in SL about Islam and Muslims. This could be accomplished through a collaborative endeavor between Muslims, non-Muslim educators and educational institutions in order to promote “negotiation rather than negation” between different cultures to bring better understanding, respect, and appreciation to the for “Other.”

This chapter provides a comprehensive case study to demonstrate the longitudinal development of online pedagogy for higher education through a lens of interior design. The chapter presents constructivist theory as a guiding pedagogical framework for the creation of learning environments within Second Life (SL) virtual reality. Details of the rigorous process of incorporation of SL, as an enhancement to a traditional course with a laboratory component, is presented to validate the integrity of the scholarship of teaching and learning undertaken in the exemplar case study. The concluding components of the chapter review the iterative process of course outcome evaluation compared to course and accreditation standards to further demonstrate the educational value of virtual reality as an environment for learning.

This paper addresses the issue of the meanings that teachers attach to the evaluation and its contribution to the integral formation of students. To this end, we take as a starting point the analysis of Intent meaning that teachers assign to the object of study. Our goal for this meaning is to interpret the intent of the evaluation given by the teacher. Given its relationship to the integral formation of students at different levels of training of four educational institutions located in Villavicencio, Cartagena and Bogota. The authors chose the hermeneutic approach qualitative research using case study. Work units are teachers participating in semi-structured interviews, about the documentary unit worked with the Institutional System of Evaluation (SIE) of the entities involved. Interpretations allowed generating some considerations that served as pillars for final thoughts, in order to contribute to the construction of new knowledge, to promote the exercise of teaching practice in view of an assessment is intended to promote the integral formation of learners. Where the first (assessment) is understood as a process of assimilation of learning according to the way that is focused on developing beyond the dimensions of the human being.

Abstract. With a growing interest in the use of virtual reality (VR) for dissemination of cultural heritage sites, the question of how to leverage existing documentation as content for virtual experiences becomes a potentially valuable opportunity. Notably, as sites are increasingly documented with building information modelling (BIM) for the purposes of conservation, there is potential to give these models a second life as content for public education and promotion. However, although software exist for viewing BIM in VR headsets, they are inadequate for complex models typical of heritage buildings, and lack functionality for integrating custom didactic content and storytelling. To make BIM performative in VR and allow for custom content, a workflow was developed to translate BIM into game engine scenes — which optimizes geometry following performance guidelines of VR while maintaining the high visual fidelity of the BIM. As a case study, six heritage spaces of the Centre Block of the Canadian Parliament which had been previously documented and modelled by CIMS were prepared for Unity3D, enabling their later use in a storytelling experience.

Avoiding ruptures in educational trajectories due to social problems demands synergic actions between social policy and educational policy. This research gives an account of the elements that affect the articulation between these two policies, based on an instrumental case study that deepens the difficulties in the implementation process of the commitments assigned by the policy of prevention and eradication of child labor to the system educational. For the reconstruction of the case, policy documents of the last two decades were analyzed and 42 actors were consulted at different levels of the education and protection system in Colombia and Bogotá. It is found that the knowledge and interpretation of child labor, the articulation between the different levels of the educational system, and the technical and operational capacity of the actors that must implement the actions established by the policy of prevention and eradication of child labor inside the educational institutions, are indispensable factors to respond in a pertinent way to the reality of working students.

Ali Bin Abi Talib once said that children should be educated in accordance with the development of the times. The Ali bin Abi Talib’s statement could be considered as his attention more to the development of human civilization. For that reason, there should be studies focused on the role of educational institutions in facing the challenges of the times. On this stand, the writer raises the existence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) for being considered to have been able to survive amid the onslaught of civilization increasingly obscuring cultural identity. In addition, this study also aims to identify and discuss the role of pesantren in the modern era. This is a literature study using a descriptive and exploratory approach. It can be concluded that pesantren are non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Pesantren have permanent and distictive methods and learning models. The purpose of pesantren education is the same as Islamic education in general, instilling a sense of virtue, familiarizing themselves with courtesy, preparing for a holy, sincere and honest life entirely. Pesantren could be seen from three aspects: (a) pesantren that are seen from facilities and infrastructures, (b) pesantren that are seen from disciplines taught, and (c) pesantren that are seen from the fields of knowledge.

Education is an important thing that has become a necessity for every human being in order to achieve a better quality of life. Education cannot be separated from the educational curriculum, which is where the curriculum continues to develop following every development of society and technological advances. The curriculum is the heart of education and is dynamic in nature where the curriculum must always be updated or changed. From this curriculum reform and change, it is a challenge for teachers to continue to innovate to improve the quality of education. By using a qualitative research method a case study approach, it is hoped that it can explain the real picture that is being experienced by the teacher at SMK Ibnu Sina. which focuses on the Sharia Banking major due to changes in the adjusted curriculum because the world is being faced by COVID-19. In the era of COVID-19, the educational curriculum must be adjusted, which in the beginning learning can be face-to-face now has turned into a distance learning online learning model.

This paper discusses a digital twin-based approach for designing and redesigning flexible assembly systems. The digital twin allows modeling the parameters of the production system at different levels including assembly process, production station, and line level. The approach allows dynamically updating the digital twin in runtime, synthesizing data from multiple 2D–3D sensors in order to have up-to-date information about the actual production process. The model integrates both geometrical information and semantics. The model is used in combination with an artificial intelligence logic in order to derive alternative configurations of the production system. The overall approach is discussed with the help of a case study coming from the automotive industry. The case study introduces a production system integrating humans and autonomous mobile dual arm workers.
