Background: Higher education institutions have executed policies and practices intended to determine and promote good teaching. Students’ evaluation of the teaching and learning process is seen as one measure of evaluating quality and effectiveness of instruction and courses. Policies and procedures guiding this process are discernible in universities, but it isoften not the case for nursing colleges.Objective: To analyse and describe the views of nursing students on block evaluation, and how feedback obtained from this process was managed.Method: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted amongst nursing students (n = 177) in their second to fourth year of training from one nursing college in KwaZulu-Natal. A questionnaire was administered by the researcher and data were analysed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences Version 19.0.Results: The response rate was 145 (81.9%). The participants perceived the aim of block evaluation as improving the quality of teaching and enhancing their experiences as students.They questioned the significance of their input as stakeholders given that they had never been consulted about the development or review of the evaluation tool, or the administration process; and they often did not receive feedback from the evaluation they participated in.Conclusion: The college management should develop a clear organisational structure with supporting policies and operational guidelines for administering the evaluation process. The administration, implementation procedures, reporting of results and follow-up mechanisms should be made transparent and communicated to all concerned. Reports and actions related to these evaluations should provide feedback into relevant courses or programmes.Keywords: Student evaluation of teaching; perceptions; undergraduate nursing students; evaluation process

The EU have set standards in relation to cultural competence, and findings from previously funded EU commission projects have illuminated an extensively developed body of knowledge in this area in relation to healthcare. Evidence from contemporary literature shows that education interventions have a positive impact on the cultural competence of health care professionals. Nonetheless, short accessible resources that can be used flexibly to support teaching and learning around cultural competence are not available across many European countries. The aim of the TransCoCon (2017-2020) project has been to develop innovative accessible multi-media learning resources to enable undergraduate nursing students and registered nurses in five countries to develop their cultural self-efficacy and cultural competence for nursing. The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss this European ERASMUS + funded strategic partnership project (TransCoCon 2017-2020) and the creation of its underpinning theoretical and organising framework. The rationale for this guiding framework will be discussed within the context of supporting literature.

BackgroundUndergraduate nursing students are expected to be responsive and competency, particularly during a disaster. Working as health volunteers is one strategy to develop these skills. However, little research has investigated the experiences of nursing students working as health volunteers during a disaster.ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate undergraduate nursing student perceptions and experiences of being health volunteer during the Mt. Merapi eruption.Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive design was used. A sampling of 25 undergraduate nurse students who worked as health volunteers during the Mt. Merapi eruption completed a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted open- and closed-ended questions, and was used to measure students' self awareness and what they have learned. Additional questions were asked to prioritize attributes required to be health volunteers. Data were aggregated and analyzed using a simple, descriptive analysis.ResultsUndergraduate nursing students had internal motivation of being health volunteers during disaster. Findings of this study illustrated benefits, future impact of being health volunteer, and required attributes of being good health volunteers.ConclusionsStudents' perceptions and experiences during disasters underscores important factors in the promotion of disaster management competency in nursing education.

Pressure is itself a neutral word. Peer pressure and family pressure has a major contribution towards academic achievement and personality development of a student. Objective of the study was (1) To determine the relationship between the peer pressure on academic performance of nursing student. (2) To determine the relationship between the family pressure on academic performance of nursing students. (3) To compare gender wise relation between peer pressure and family pressure on academic performance. Methodology of this study was qualitative approach and Research Design is Descriptive research design. The study was conducted in Narayan Nursing college and sample were B.Sc Nursing 3rd and G.N.M 3rd year studying at Narayan Nursing College, Jamuhar, Sasaram. Random sampling techniques was used. Number of sample for the study is 100 Undergraduate Nursing students who have attended university exam in 2019. Findings of the study is (1) There is positive correlation between peer pressure and family pressure on academic performance. (2) There is a negative correlation between peer pressure and family pressure of male students. (3) There is a positive correlation between peer pressure and family pressure of female student.

Objective: to identify the pattern of alcohol consumption among undergraduate nursing students. Methodology: this is about a quantitative-descriptive study with 393 students in undergraduate courses in nursing at the Catholic University of Minas Gerais. Data were collected from a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistic. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Catholic University of Minas Gerais. Resulted: the students consume alcohol and energy drinks, beer is the most consumed beverage and bars and discos are often used. Events following drinking included: classroom lack, driving vehicles and fights. Women are responsible for diverse consumption of alcoholic beverages and men have less diversification, but consuming more doses per day. Regarding the use of alcohol in the family, students point to the parent as consumer abuse. Conclusion: the significant consumption of alcohol among undergraduate nursing students from Minas Gerais Catholic University is a problem that must be addressed through implementation of preventive and damage reduction program.
