In recent years, development of blockchain technology and virtual currencies (VCs) have been followed not just by the media and industry professionals all over the world – there rarely could be found a person who has not ever heard the term ‘bitcoin’. Despite the popularity of VCs, there is a lack of comprehensible information in the Latvian language about what the virtual currency (VC) is, as well the concepts of digital and VCs are often misused as synonyms. The research is based on the analysis of special literature and scientific publications on the system of VCs. The aim of the research: to explore the concept of VCs in the modern economy. General scientific research methods are used in the research: the method of monographic or descriptive research, the comparative analysis method for studying the concept of VCs, the classification, legal regulation, and future development possibilities. The results of the research show that VCs are a type of digital currency, though, the opposite statement is not correct. Thus, all VCs are digital, but not all digital currencies are virtual. Exploration of the legal framework of VCs suggests that it is at an early stage of development. With the increasing number of VCs and along with strengthening of the legal framework of VCs, the issue of possible directions of the future development of VCs is raised. Two points of view dominate: the future currency or payment system, for example, smart contracts.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to recognize the benefits of the initial coin offering (ICO) as a way of raising funds and to present a detailed comparison between the ICO and the initial public offering to realize the future possibilities that this new funding method holds. Design/methodology/approach It is an exhaustive review of the ICO, the mechanism of crowdfunding, the blockchain technology behind it, benefits and current shortcomings of the ICO, and the potential future development of the ICO as a convenient and efficient way of raising capital. Findings ICOs have brought billions of dollars of funding to startups and projects worldwide in less than two years. Concurrently, many successful ICOs yielded extremely high returns to investors and believers of this new way of funding businesses. Research limitations/implications While the ICO is a revolutionary vehicle for business funding, it has raised concerns among users as well as potential investors about its risk and lack of regulation. The future of this innovative funding method highly depends on further development and placement of appropriate regulatory supervision, better understanding of risk and benefits and attaining the confidence of users. Originality/value This is a review of the advantages and drawbacks of the ICO. If the current fraud, market and cybersecurity risks can be mitigated and standardized regulations are developed, the ICO has a future to become an established way of capital funding or even replace the existing options, regardless of the size and age of companies.

China is the largest antibiotic producer, producing a large amount of antibiotic bacterial residues classified to hazard wastes in 2008. It is urgent to find suitable techniques to dispose antibiotic bacterial residues for pharmaceutical enterprises. In this paper, the characteristics of antibiotic bacterial residues are discussed and the current situation and treatment and disposal techniques are summarized, including the technology of composting, incineration, feed stuff, landfill and energy regeneration and so on. In the last, the future development trend of dealing with antibiotic bacterial residues is prospected.

This article describes the properties of molecular nanowires as electrical conductors. It begins by defining a molecular nanowire and describing a specific example of a molecular nanowire, along with the concept of molecular nanowire self-assembly. It then considers how molecular nanowires are realized in the laboratory as well as the relationships between these methodologies, the systems that are produced and some experiments being performed on them. It also looks at the different kinds of molecules, electrodes and linkers out of which molecular nanowires are being or may be constructed; the Landauer approach to electrical conduction in molecular nanowires; the principles and limitations of ab-initio and semi-empirical modelling of molecular nanowires in the context of electrical conduction; and four specific experimental systems and the extent to which their observed behavior has been understood theoretically. The article concludes with a summary of key issues for the future development of the field.

The rise of “blockchain +” has a great impact on all fields and even the whole social and economic situation, and is no exception to the audit work. Blockchain has the characteristics of non-tampering, timestamp, grid consensus and so on, which is in line with the requirements of the audit work to pursue efficiency and effect. Under such a development background, the “blockchain+audit” industry arises from this. The integration of blockchain into audit engagements, in turn, changes the proportion of audit transaction costs. Based on this background, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to analyze the transaction cost of audit. In view of the problems found in the current transaction cost analysis of “blockchain+audit”, combined with the research on the future development trend based on the theory of technological innovation and industry life cycle, this paper puts forward some suggestions to effectively control the audit cost and improve the audit efficiency. The aim is to provide a practical reference basis for the better application of blockchain technology in auditing.

The development of overseas education in the new era of China can be divided into four stages, each of which has different characteristics. The achievements of the development of China’s overseas education are as following: first, persisting in the overall idea of “supporting study abroad, encouraging return home and freedom of coming and going”; second, the number of students of overseas education keeps rising; third, the selection of overseas education is gradually diversified. The future development trend of overseas education is shown as: the return boom is in the ascendant; the “domestic overseas education” is gradually developing; and China’s international education ushers in the climax.

As an innovative Internet financial service mode, person to person (P2P) network lending has rapidly promoted the development of Inclusive Finance in China. However, in the development process of P2P network loan, there are also some problems, such as platform role deviation, institutional function alienation, industry credit difficulty and so on, which lead to a large number of phenomena, such as suspension of business, refund, difficulty in cash withdrawal and running away. Faced with this dilemma, the regulatory authorities began to carry out strict supervision on the industry and guide the benign exit and transformation of the industry. In view of this situation, this paper will predict the future development direction of China’s online lending combined with the financial regulatory policies and the future trend of Internet Finance under the new situation.

Belt conveyor is a kind of continuous conveying machinery that its transmission capacity is large, it is widely used in many industries and it has broad prospects. Belt conveyor is commonly used the traditional PLC to control, the openness is low, the portability is poor, and it is not conducive to the development of the belt conveyor. This paper presents a design of belt conveyor control system with motion controller as control core; respectively the hardware design and software design are introduced. The control system has good flexibility, high open degree, it is in line with the future development trend of belt conveyer, and it has certain guiding significance.
