Recent work has drawn attention to the possibilities that small angle electron scattering offers as a source of information about the micro-structure of vacuum condensed films. In particular, this serves as a good detector of discontinuities within the films. A review of a kinematical theory describing the small angle scattering from a thin film composed of discrete particles packed close together will be presented. Such a model could be represented by a set of cylinders packed side by side in a two dimensional fluid-like array, the axis of the cylinders being normal to the film and the length of the cylinders becoming the thickness of the film. The Fourier transform of such an array can be regarded as a ring structure around the central beam in the plane of the film with the usual thickness transform in a direction normal to the film. The intensity profile across the ring structure is related to the radial distribution function of the spacing between cylinders.

This study reported that the addition of nano-silica enhances the mechanical characteristics of concrete as its compressive, flexural and tensile split strengths are increased. As a comparison mixture to equate it along with nano-modified concrete, ordinary samples of Portland cement (OPC) have been utilized. Herein, upto 6.0 percent of OPC has been substituted by nanosilica. In fact, the introduction of nanosilica improves mechanical and microstructural characteristics of concrete by significantly (28 to 35%). The finding therefore, indicated that partly replacing OPC with up to 5 percent nanosilica increases the mechanical and microstructural properties cured up to ninety days as opposed to the standard OPC mix.

Production technology of metal casting industry in Indonesia needs to be improved, especially in the manufacturing of spare parts and box engine made of gray cast iron which has various wall thick such as dove tale construction. Microstructure of gray cast iron is influenced by cooling rate during casting, chemical composition and melting treatment process (inoculation). The part which has the thinnest thickness has the fastest cooling therefore, the grain boundary is smaller compared to other section. As a result this part has highest hardness and difficult to be machined. This research is conducted to solve this problem by modifying melting and solidification treatment process. The research starting from micro structure analysis, composition and mechanical properties tests on the product, and then conducting modification treatment through Taguchi method approach. Experimental results obtained show that the best level settings to control factors which affect to the uniformity of the microstructure and mechanical properties in gray cast iron is the addition of seed inoculation super ® 75, as much as 0.25% with the method of inoculation material entering into the Transfer Ladle. Keywords: carbon, micro structure, hardness, inoculation

The comparative investigation results of AD33 aluminum alloy welded joint quality dependence upon changes in a laser beam motion rate for conditions of hand and automatic laser welding are shown. A micro-structure of a welded joint at the hand and automatic laser welding of the AD33 alloy is investigated.

ABSTRACTFEM simulation of micro-rotating-structures was performed for local measurement of residual stresses in thin films. A sensitivity factor is introduced, studied and tabulated from the simulation results. The residual stress can be evaluated from the rotating deflection, the lengths of rotating and fixed beams, and the sensitivity factor. The micro-structure technique was applied to measure residual stresses in both silicon nitride and polysilicon thin films, before and after rapid thermal annealing (RTA), and further confirmed by wafer curvature method. Residual stresses in polysilicon films at different RTA stages were also characterized by micro-Raman spectroscopy (MRS). The experimental results indicate that micro-rotating-structures indeed have the ability to measure spatially and locally residual stresses in MEMS thin films with appropriate sensitivities.
