Article empirically investigates how intensive is the impact of natural gas prices on production by industries in Slovenian economy. Natural gas price movements can help us in forecasting the movements in electricity, natural gas, steam, hot water supplies, the production of metals, textiles, leather, footwear, leather and fur products, clothes, the production of pulp, paper, cardboard and products from paper and cardboard, the production of products from rubber and plastic materials, processing industry and the production of furniture, the production of intermediary consumption products and recycling. We proved that natural gas prices increase for 1 % point contributes to higher prices of living necessaries for 0,005 % points. The economic distortions that have been caused by federal regulation of natural gas markets have been the subject of many recent studies (Committee for Economic Development [CED]; Brickhill; Hall; MacAvoy and Pindyck; and Means). The most recent policy debate concerns the relative merits of alternatives to the price deregulation schedule of the 1978 Natural Gas Policy Act (NGPA). The range of options runs from freezing natural gas prices at current levels to complete decontrol of natural gas prices by January 1, 1986. Producers of natural gas, pipelines, distribution utilities, and end users all suffer from some sort of economic distortion under the NGPA (CED, pp. 50-60).

In this paper, we build a deep learning network to predict the trends of natural gas prices. Given a time series, for each day, the gas price trend is classified as “up” and “down” according to the price compared to the last day. Meanwhile, we collect news articles as experimental materials from some natural gas related websites. Every article was then embedded into vectors by word2vec, weighted with its sentiment score, and labeled with corresponding day’s price trend. A CNN and LSTM fused network was then trained to predict price trend by these news vectors. Finally, the model’s predictive accuracy reached 62.3%, which outperformed most of other traditional classifiers.

This study presents a techno-economic performance evaluation of a hybrid low-concentrating photovoltaic/thermal (LCPV/T) plant, which operates in a student sports and wellness center building situated at a university campus in Mexico. The solar plant comprises 144 LCPV/T collectors based on a hybridized version of a local parabolic trough technology. Dynamic thermal and electrical performance analyses were performed in the TRNSYS simulation studio. The results showed that the solar field could cover up to 72% of the hot water demand of the building during the summer season and 24% during the winter season. The hybrid system could annually save 7185 USD, accounting for heat (natural gas boiler) and electricity generation. However, the payback time was of 19.23 years, which was mainly attributed to a reduced natural gas price in Monterrey, Mexico. A new approach to evaluating the equivalent levelized cost of heat (LCOHeq), is proposed. This results in an LCOHeq of 0.065 USD/kWh, which is nearly equivalent to the LCOH of a natural gas-fired boiler (0.067 USD/kWh). Finally, the hybrid plant could achieve a specific CO2e emission reduction of 77.87 kg CO2e per square meter of the required installation area.

Hourly generation unit-level output levels, detailed information on the technological characteristics of generation units, and daily delivered natural gas prices to all generation units for the California wholesale electricity market before and after the implementation of locational marginal pricing are used to measure the impact of introducing greater spatial granularity in short-term energy pricing. The average hourly number of generation unit starts increases, but both the total hourly energy consumed and total hourly operating costs for all natural gas-fired generation units fall by more than 2 percent after the implementation of locational marginal pricing.

Abstract The main objective of this study was to investigate the impact and causality of crude oil and natural gas on economic growth in the Caspian Sea region. Here, the study applies ordinary least square (OLS) method and Granger causality test using time series data from 1997 to 2015 to ascertain the impact and causality of crude oil and natural gas on economic growth. The results, according to the OLS method, evince that crude oil and natural gas have a significant impact on economic growth of the region. Alongside, considering causality test, gross domestic product (GDP) does Granger cause (unidirectional) crude oil price and export which denotes that GDP can help to forecast crude oil price and export; however, crude oil price and export cannot help to forecast GDP. Surprisingly, this direction is unlikely for GDP and natural gas. GDP and natural gas have unidirectional, but opposite causal relationship, i.e., natural gas price and export do Granger cause GDP which signify that natural gas price and export can help to forecast GDP; however, GDP cannot help to forecast crude oil price and export.

The performance of a commercially available direct-fired desiccant dehumidification unit (DFDD) has been studied as part of a microturbine generator (MTG)-based Integrated Energy System (IES) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The IES includes a second-generation air-to-water heat recovery unit (HRU) for the MTG. The focus of these tests was to study the performance of a DFDD in baseline (direct-fired with its natural gas burner) mode and to compare it with a DFDD performance in the exhaust-fired and combined modes as part of the ORNL IES, when waste heat received from the MTG was used for desiccant regeneration. The baseline tests were performed with regeneration air heated by a natural gas burner (direct-fired). The testing of the waste-heat, or exhaust-fired DFDD as part of IES involved using the exhaust gas from the HRU for regeneration air in the DFDD after hot water production in the HRU. Hot water from the HRU was used to produce chilled water in an indirect-fired (water fired) absorption chiller. The combined DFDD was the combination of natural gas burner and exhaust-fired testing. The study investigated the impact of varying the process and regeneration conditions on the latent capacity (LC) and latent coefficient of performance (LCOP) of the DFDD, as well as overall IES efficiency. The performance tests show that LC increases with increasing dew point (humidity ratio) of the process air or the increased amount of waste heat associated with increased MTG power output. In addition, baseline LC was found to be three times higher than the LC in the exhaust-fired mode of operation. LCOP in baseline operation is also almost three times higher than that obtained in the exhaust-fired mode (55.4% compared to 19%). But, at the same time, addition of the DFDD to the IES with the MTG at maximum power output increases the overall IES efficiency by 4–5%. Results of the combined tests performed at a reduced MTG power output of 15 kW (51,182 Btu/h) and their comparison with the baseline and exhaust-fired tests show that activation of the DFDD gas burner during exhaust-fired tests increases the LC over the baseline value from 91,514.9 Btu/h (25.8 kW) to 101,835.8 Btu/h (29.8 kW). The LCOP during the combined mode is less than the “baseline” LCOP, because in addition to gas input, the low-grade MTG/HRU exhaust heat input to the DFDD are also being considered. The overall IES efficiency during the combined mode is approximately 8% higher than without the DFDD integrated into the IES.


Subject Shortages in Turkmenistan despite gas wealth. Significance Despite predictions of more than 6% growth, the Turkmen economy has been hard hit by the decline in natural gas prices since 2014. News of food running out in the shops and cash becoming less available suggests the government is not coping well. Turkmenistan only has one gas customer, China, and the revenues are going partly to offset debt. Impacts The government may have to solicit IMF advice and Russian assistance but will be reluctant to accept their terms. Turkey, a long-term commercial and political friend, may be the most appealing foreign partner. Any upsurge in conflict along the border with Afghanistan will alarm the government and prompt higher defence spending.
