This study investigates the effect of the provision on non-audit services on Auditor’s independence: evidence from accounting practitioners and consequent effect on the auditor’s objectivity and professional skepticism in the financial statement audited. The study used the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) domiciled in Abia State. The data for the study were generated from primary source: questionnaires were the major instrument for data collection. The instrument was subject to both content and faces validity by experts. Three questions were structured in Likert scale form and the formulated hypotheses were tested with ordinary Logistic regression using SPSS package. The study found that non-audit services have no effect on auditor’s independence, the auditor’s objectivity and professional skepticism. The study therefore recommends that the audit committee should have full oversight of the auditor’s independence, including the nature and extent of the work they do and their fees. The audit committee should make its charter public. The charter should give investor information about how the audit committee chooses its auditors and how it decides the type of service they can provide.

ABSTRACTThis paper examines the scientific debate that took place in 1973 in the journal Rivista dei Dottori Commercialisti (Italian Journal of Chartered Accountants) between Pietro Onida and Raymond J. Chambers concerning the nature of financial statement information. Our research revealed that Onida was the advocate of a teleological theory of the financial statement, whereas Chambers supported the perfect neutrality of accounting information. Going back to theoretical precedents, the thoughts of the two scholars have different ontological and epistemological assumptions. If, ontologically, Chambers conceives reality as unique and objective, being inspired by the neopositivism of the “received view,” Onida admits the existence of multiple realities by adopting an interpretivist perspective. Epistemologically, the Australian scholar approaches accounting as a pure science by leveraging its deductive moment rather than empirical recognition, whereas the Italian author conceives accounting as an “application science” and adopts a method where the inductive approach prevails.JEL Classifications: M40; M41; M49.

The financial statements in principle are the result of the accounting process used to communicate the financial situation to internal and external parties that are aimed at decision making. The importance of the financial statements, then the financial statement should be prepared carefully and without errors. Financial Accounting Standards generally are not in accordance with entities whose accountability is not as significant. Therefore, the Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants (IAI) has issued Financial Accounting Standards Entity Without Public Accountability (SAK ETAP) intended for entities that do not have significant public accountability and publish financial statements for general purposes for external users. This study aims to analyze the implementation of ETAP in the presentation of PT. Fortuna Inti Alam’s financial statement. The method used in this study is comparative descriptive analysis. Results of this research is based on the financial statements of 2016 show that PT. Fortuna Inti Alam has implemented ETAP but it is not fully complete yet. The Company has not presented Statement of Owner’s Equity, Cash Flow Statement, and Notes to Financial Statements. This research suggests that companies can prepare components of other financial statements in accordance with applicable standards. Keywords : Financial Statements, SAK ETAP.

This research aimed to determine the effect of the reputation of the public accounting firm on the integrity of financial statements by including leverage and firm size as the control variables. This research also investigated the effects of corporate governance moderation that was proxied by the independent commissioner, institutional ownership, and audit committee in strengthening or weakening the reputation of the public accounting firms on the integrity of the financial statements. The population was manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2013-2015. The sample utilized the purposive sampling method and resulted in 34 manufacturing firms, so the total observations were 102 firms in all observed years. This research performed statistical data processing with EVIEWS 8. There are two main findings of this research. First, the reputation of public accounting firm affects the integrity of the financial statement. Second, corporate governance that utilizes the independent commissioners and institutional ownership strengthen the effect of the reputation of the public accounting firm on the integrity of the financial statement. However, corporate governance using audit committee weakens the reputation of the public accounting firm on the integrity of financial statements.

The aim of this study would be to see how independence commissioners, internal auditors, and size of the company affect the financial statement reputation of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange that produce basic industrial and chemical products (IDX). The findings revealed that having an impartial board of commissioners had a substantial positive impact on financial statement transparency, while having an audit committee and a large corporation had no significant impact. Based on the findings of data analysis research, the audit committee cannot boost the accuracy of the company's financial statements, according to this report. Meanwhile, one of the audit committee's responsibilities is to enhance the accuracy of the company's financial reports such that the details in the financial statements remains current and trustworthy. The internal auditors cannot improve the integrity of the company's financial statements based on the results of data analysis testing. In the meantime, one of the internal auditors tasks is to improve the accuracy of the company's financial reports so that the financial statements' details remain current and reliable. The audit committee cannot enhance the credibility of the company's financial statements based on the findings of data analysis research.

As rapid urbanization and population growth have become global issues, urban growth modeling has become an essential tool for decision-makers to understand how urban growth works in overall dense environments and to assess the sustainability of current urban forms. However, in urban growth models (particularly when incorporating quantitative approaches to include driving factors of urban growth), spatial autocorrelation may influence the overall model performance. In this paper, an empirical study was conducted in the region of Munich, and an integrated urban growth model was tested to explain current urban growth. The modeling contributes to advances in the state of the art by combining a range of driving factors using autologistic regression with a transition probability matrix from the Markov chain method in a cellular automata model simulation. The autologistic regression employed here addresses the impact of spatial autocorrelation compared to ordinary logistic regression. Furthermore, this study compared modeling of overall settlement growth with modeling high- and low-density settlement types separately. Incorporating spatial dependency into the model through application of autologistic regression showed improvements when compared to the ordinary logistic regression model. The Kappa indexes were higher when separately modeling the two types of settlement density compared to modeling overall settlement growth since the driving factors of settlement growth of different densities might be different. From an urban planning perspective, this novel autologistic regression-Markov chain-based cellular automata model is a powerful tool that offers an opportunity for planners and government authorities to gain a more precise understanding of the different urban growth processes that might occur in an urban region similar to the one tested here. It should allow for a better assessment of the potential costs, benefits, and risks of corresponding planning strategies.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the drivers of companies’ compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) using the stakeholder salience theory. Design/methodology/approach The authors have used panel data from 205 companies to examine the IFRS compliance level across 13 African countries. This study has also established the relationship between stakeholders’ attributes and firms’ compliance with IFRS. Findings On IFRS compliance, the authors found that the average compliance score among the companies over the period was 73.09 per cent, with a minimum score of 62.86 per cent and a maximum of 85.61 per cent. The authors found a significant positive association between audit committee competence and compliance, as well as among chartered accountants on board. There is less compliance with the latest standards, such as IFRS 3, 7 and 13. Also, IAS 17, 19, 36 and 37 are problematic across the sample. The authors also found that compliance has been increasing over the years. Practical implications For companies, this study provides empirical evidence on the importance of having chartered accountants’ corporate boards, as well as competent audit committees involved in ensuring high compliance with IFRS. The findings also provide valuable information for professional accounting organizations on the role of their members (chartered accountants) in the effectiveness of IFRS compliance. Originality/value This study complements and updates prior studies on IFRS compliance with findings from Africa, a region that has been neglected in the literature. It provides empirical evidence on the importance of chartered accountants sitting on corporate boards in ensuring high compliance with IFRS.
