Purpose: The aim of this research is to investigate empirically the effect of pandemic outbreaks on loan repayment of small enterprises in Eastleigh business community, with particular focus for those who used borrowed fund in starting and operating their businesses. Design/methodology/approach: The target population of the study was the business community of Eastliegh, and samples of 50 businesses were randomly selected from the population. descriptive statistics were used to analyze the mean, mode, median, and the variance of the collected data. Regression and correlation were used to analyze the strength and the direction between the relationships of the different variable. Findings: The research results indicated statistically significant negative relationship between pandemic outbreak and loan repayment ability of small businesses in Easteigh, r(-.54), with p value of 0.008. Unique contribution to theory, practice, and policy: Pandemic outbreak affects business performance and survival in different ways. Small business owners, regulators, lenders, and the general public may benefit from this research by considering the impact of disruptions on small businesses. The study is one of the first to respond to the effect pandemic outbreak on small businesses after covid-19 pandemic eruption. Conducting this study was indispensable because of the importance of small businesses for the economy of any country and the current situation of covid-19 pandemic impact on them, specifically those who borrowed the fund they had invested.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the effect of new information from rights issue announcement on share prices of firm’s listed on the Nairobi Security Exchange.Methodology: The study was carried out using descriptive research design. The target population consisted all companies listed on the NSE, and had previously done a rights issue. Convenient sampling technique was used to identify firms that had rights issue in the period under study.  Secondary data was collected using a schedule developed by the researcher. Data analysis was done using events study methodology and regression modelling.Results: Based on the findings the study found that mean share prices before and after the rights issue announcement was statistically insignificant as indicated by the t-test (t= -0.435 and p-value = 0.663).Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Based on the findings the study recommends that further studies to be done on the impact of bonus issues, IPOs, and the global economic crisis (2008-2009) on stock returns of companies listed at the NSE.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the effect of volume of shares traded on share prices of firm’s listed on Nairobi Security Exchange.Methodology: The study was carried out using descriptive research design. The target population consisted all companies listed on the NSE, and had previously done a rights issue. Convenient sampling technique was used to identify firms that had rights issue in the period under study.  Secondary data was collected using a schedule developed by the researcher. Data analysis was done using events study methodology and regression modelling.Results: Based on the findings the study found out that there existed a negative relationship between volume of shares traded and the share price. Specifically, the share price is negative (β=-0.909) and significant (p-value = 0.000) at 5% and that 9.4 percent of the variations in volume of shares traded were explained by the variations in share pricesUnique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Based on the findings the study recommends that further studies to be done on the impact of bonus issues, IPOs, and the global economic crisis (2008-2009) on stock returns of companies listed at the NSE.

The study investigated the socio-economic and environmental impact of hydropower projects in Rwanda with a case study of Rubagabaga hydropower Ltd operating from Nyabihu District. It examines the impact of a socio-economic and environmental hydropower plant in Rwanda, identifies the challenge hydropower plants face in Rwanda, and finally investigates the relationship between hydro powers and their socio-economic impact in Rwanda? In this research, the quantitative research design is based on statistical data of the research that was used with quantitative and qualitative methods. Questionnaires were used to collect data. The target population of this study was made up of 252 participants including 154 respondents all from ten different villages surrounding the Rubagabaga plant in Nyabihu District. Data were analyzed using descriptive and correlation analysis and tables that were interpreted to confirm or deny the relevance of the main and specific objectives. Based on results from table no.16 demonstrates that the beta= 0.397 with the t value of 2.333 and the p-value of 0. 021. Since the p-value is less than 0.05, the researcher rejected the null hypothesis and considered it an alternate. There is a strong positive relationship between environmental assessment of hydropower plant projects and socio-environmental sustenance and development. In a nutshell, the researcher has rejected the null hypothesis and considered its alternate. Community structure and dynamics have a positive influence on socio-environmental sustenance and development. Table no.16 shows that beta= 0.341 with the t value of 2.668 as the p-value was 0.009. Since the p-value is less than 0.05. Therefore, the researcher rejected the null hypothesis and considered it an alternate. According to table no.21, the changes in community structure and dynamics of the hydropower plant project cause the increase of 0.341 (34.1%) of the socio-environment sustenance and development. The ratio of beta modal results for the t value expressed t=2.66 hence the probability value is significant on socio-environment sustenance and development noting that sig. =0.009. Carefully, the researcher has rejected the null hypothesis and considered its alternate. With this in mind, community structure and dynamics has a positive influence on socio-environmental sustenance and development. Table no.16 has shown beta= 0.478 with the t value of 4.543 as the p-value was 0.000 which is less than 0.05. According to the findings, the changes in government policies, stability, and support of hydropower plant project causes the increase of 0.478 (47.80%) of the socio-environment sustenance and development. The ratio of beta modal results for the t value expressed t= 4.54 hence the probability value is significant on socio-environment sustenance and development noting that sig. =0.000.

This introduction describes how encouraging a diversity of small businesses can help support a Native Nation’s long-term economic stability, but goes further to demonstrate this uniquely through the eyes of the small-business owners themselves along with an in-depth examination of their local, national, and international contexts. In doing so, it describes how this book also addresses the ways in which Native Nations, by supporting small business resilience, are responding in politically and socioeconomically meaningful ways to settler-colonial economic subjugations. This introduction further describes how the book unpacks the layers of small-business complications specific to Native Nations and American Indian business owners while speaking to larger theoretical questions regarding the impact of small businesses in a global indigenous context. Debates regarding economic sovereignty versus economic power, measures of autonomy, land status, economic identity, fluctuating relationships with settler-colonial society, and the growth of neoliberalism (along with its accompanying “structural adjustment” policies) meet with specific practices, such as the implementation of guaranteed annual incomes, cultural revitalization actions, environmental justice movements, and the potentially precarious choices of economic development—issues that are exacerbated during times of economic precarity, such as the Great Recession.

The Albanian state has experienced many changes of this system over the years due to the policies and different regimes that have followed, but there has always been a tendency for improvement. The tax system and the informality are the mirror of the economy of the country, especially the favorable tax/fiscal policies that have been adapted to the economy, which bring economic development and integration of all the gaps to a proper economic environment. The chapter aims to find the effects of tax changes on the taxpayers. Furthermore, the study focuses on how the business performance has been indicated from the tax control. The data is collected from a survey which was focused in small and big businesses that operates in the capital city of Albania, in Tirana. The questionnaire is realized during April 2018. The main finds of the study are the different perception of businesses for the tax control and the impact of the fiscal changes on these businesses. All these fiscal changes that the businesses faced were more in disfavor of the small businesses.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of individual traits and attributes on the entrepreneurial and internationalization actions of Australian businesswomen, many of whom run small businesses. Design/methodology/approach This study is exploratory and quantitative, based on a questionnaire survey of 323 Australian businesswomen. Drawing upon the extant literature on internationalization, gender and entrepreneurship, the study explores two micro-foundational relationships of interest – personality and capability assessment differences between female business owners and their employed counterparts, and the impact of such traits and assessments on their internationalization. A further question is explored in terms of any differentials in perceptions of barriers in internationalization. Findings The findings show key personality dimensions do not differ dramatically between Australian businesswomen working in their own businesses (i.e. entrepreneurs) or as employees in organizations, while there are surprisingly few differences between women who are engaged internationally and those yet to do so. When comparing the female entrepreneurs and employees, in particular, the findings around tolerance for ambiguity and management efficacy are notably counterintuitive. This leads to the development of testable propositions to refine the causal claims in this domain. Practical implications The study calls into question the distinctiveness of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial endeavors, at least for female businesswomen. Originality/value By including entrepreneurs and employees, women who have engaged internationally and those that are yet to do so, the study avoids some of the potential self-selection and confirmation biases inherent in studies of only entrepreneurs or small business owners. The investigation of individual traits, attributes and experiences as micro-foundations for internationalization motivations challenges existing theories of small business expansion.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the effect of mobile banking on performance of microfinance banks in Kenya Methodology: The study adopted positivism philosophy approach and descriptive research design was used. The study also used census survey. The target population was the thirteen Microfinance Banks regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. The questionnaires were self-administered and primary data was collected from the thirteen regulated microfinance banks. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for preliminary analysis. Factor analysis was conducted to reduce the number of factors and Kaiser Mayer Olkin and Barlett’s test of Sphericity were tested and total variance explained, scree plot and rotated component matrix were drawn. Findings: The findings showed that majority of the respondents were in agreement that it is easy to deposit and withdraw cash, transfer funds, apply loan and check the balance using mobile banking. The hypothesis (H02) findings showed that mobile banking had a significant effect on performance of MFBs. The summary model showed that the R was 0.280 and a R square of 0.078. This implied that mobile banking predicted 7.8% of the performance of MFBs. The ANOVA results showed that F value was 4.940 and a p value of 0.030 which indicates that it was statistically significant. After the T test mobile banking beta coefficient was the regression model was generated Y = 2.841+ 0.271MBA. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends that MFBs should partner with telecommunication services providers to develop products and services which are customer oriented and easy to use. They should develop strategies on market penetration by creating awareness on the product and services available in the market.

A strategic network perspective established the theoretical foundation for exploring aspects of business management in 383 small businesses predominantly operating in small communities across the U.S. It was proposed that those owner/managers involved in formal voluntary organizations to promote business effectiveness would differ in their strategic decisions and evaluations of performance from businesses without such formal group affiliations. Business strategies assessed involved the emphasis placed on employees, customers, and community, and the effect of these three variables in explaining four elements of business performance. Networking businesses were found to place more emphasis on strategies dealing with employees, customers, and community than non-networking businesses. Final results suggested that network membership held a direct effect on business strategies, and that these strategies held varying direct effects on perceptions of business performance. Findings offer initial support for strategic network theory as well as practical information for small business owners considering network membership.

The main objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of social media applications on small business entrepreneurs. It also examines how small business owners are motivated to use social media applications. Social media has completely transformed the way businesses are done. Social media applications in the present time have become the most efficient and effective tool for small business entrepreneurs, and normally all small businesses use social media platforms for the advertising and publicity of their products and services. They make fan pages for their followers, and they warmly welcome their suggestions and opinions, which help in improving their businesses. However, based on literature review, we conclude that there is a positive impact of social media applications on small business entrepreneurs as well as they are highly motivated to use these platforms.

The hospitality industry is major service sector in most of developed and developing countries in the world economy, and nowadays many hotels implemented e-commerce for their business models and gained great advantages and increase profitability. This study aims to examine the impact of firm size and e-commerce usage on business performance of hospitality industry in general and hotels in Libya in particular. A quantitative approach was applied on hotel industry in Libya, mainly those hotels that have previous practices and experience with e-commerce. The results shows that small and medium size firms in hospitality industry in Libya are facing similar challenges and obstacles to other small businesses when establishing e-commerce website, and also shows a strong relationship between e-commerce usage and business performance, and high increase in profitability when hotels implement e-commerce and start to conduct online booking
