The Internal Social Media is a tool and an opportunity for organizations to examine the implications of social media and to upgrade employee engagement. The usage of internal social media applications enables employees to share the personal and professional information and better communication amongst themselves. Increase in the usage of internal social media in corporates degrades work in an organization. In this context, very little research has been conducted to explore the impact of social media tool on the working structure, supervision and work empowerment amongst the employees.  This paper focuses on the relationship between internal social media usage `and employee engagement in IT sector.  The population of the study includes employees of IT sector, sample size of this study being 100 employees. This helps in creating a friendly atmosphere among employees to discuss their ideas, thereby exploring employee engagement. The results indicate that socialization tools enhance technologies, increase the effectiveness of organizational commitment and the level of efficiency in employee engagement. The usage of internal social media is also associated with the level of efficiency and innovation, entrepreneurship, communication, and acceptance of change in the organization.

In recent times, Indian IT companies have been facing high attrition rates, especially with young employees having three to seven years of experience. Therefore, this study develops and tests a dynamic model of brand-endorsed employee engagement (EE) and employee retention (ER). Particularly, the carryover and temporal effects of the relationships and constructs are studied to understand how employee behaviour evolves over time. Using two waves of longitudinal data gathered from young employees ([Formula: see text]) of Indian IT companies, the proposed conceptual model is investigated to test the temporal differences in the relationships between internal employer branding (IEB), organisational commitment, EE and ER. Additionally, the impact of employer internal social media usage on the relationships is also examined as an effective human resources (HR) intervention in the evolution process. The findings show that excluding the organisational commitment to EE relationship, the other two relationships between IEB to organisational commitment and EE to ER become stronger over time. Interestingly, while internal social media usage does not exhibit direct effect on organisational commitment or ER, it is instrumental in influencing IEB perception and EE during subsequent periods. Overall, this study offers directions to HR managers in the services sector on how to effectively use social media to engender engagement in employees and ultimately, enhance their intention to stay.

The authors investigate the process of humanization of society in relation to people with autism spectrum disorders and its relationship with the reception of problems of this category of population by society. The authors based on the descriptors of messages in social media published in the digital media space. The article reveals the relationship between the content of messages in social media, as well as the tools of this type of media and the overall degree of humanization of society at both social and political levels. The typological features of such a social media tool as a hashtag, when covering the problems of people with autism spectrum disorders, as well as the impact of these features on the reception of messages on this topic by both domestic and English-speaking users are noted.

Abstract The public’s actions will likely have a significant effect on the course of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Human behavior is conditioned and shaped by information and perceptions of people. This study investigated the impact of risk perception on trust in government and self-efficacy. It examined whether the use of social media helps people adopt preventative actions during the pandemic. To test this hypothesis, data were gathered from 512 individuals (students and academicians) who were based in Malaysia during COVID-19. Our results suggested that risk perception had a significant effect on trust in government and self-efficacy. Moreover, these correlations were stronger when social media was used as a source for gathering information on COVID-19, and in some cases it even helped the user avoid being exposed to the virus. This study assessed the relationship between risk perception and the awareness gained from using social media during the pandemic and also highlighted how social media usage influences trust in government and self-efficacy.

Social media can be used to increase individual popularity, one of which is Instagram. Instagram can be used to increase individual self-popularity or increase self-esteem. The purpose of this study, namely to determine the relationship between the intensity of using Instagram and self-esteem in emerging adulthood. This research is a quantitative-survey research, with 259 students at “X” University as many as male and female participants aged 18-25 years. The measuring instrument used is the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale and the Instagram Intensity Scale. The analysis used was the Spearman non-parametric correlation test. The results show that there is a significant correlation between the intensity of using Instagram and self-esteem on emerging adulthood, there is also a correlation between emotional attachment to Instagram and self-esteem on emerging adulthood. Thus the higher the intensity of using Instagram or the higher the emotional attachment to Instagram, the higher the self-esteem of emerging adulthood. The higher the intensity of a person using Instagram, the higher the desire or motivation of the individual to become more prominent.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of social media usage (SMU) and relational energy on employees' workplace spirituality within an organization from a psychological perspective.Design/methodology/approachThis study proposes a research model based on self-determination theory. This research model was tested using a cross-level hierarchical regression analysis. Data were collected from 276 knowledge workers on 39 teams in 37 enterprises in China.FindingsSMU has a significant positive impact on employees' relational energy and workplace spirituality. Relational energy partially mediates the relationships of cognitive usage and social usage of social media with workplace spirituality and fully mediates the relationship between hedonic usage of social media and workplace spirituality. Inclusive leadership positively affects workplace spirituality and acts as a negative cross-level moderating variable on the relationship between hedonic usage and workplace spirituality.Practical implicationsThis work suggested that with appropriate SMU implications, enterprises might be able to integrate spirituality into human resource management practices to improve employees' meaningful life experiences within organizations.Originality/valueThe authors’ findings not only help to theoretically clarify the relationship between SMU and workplace spirituality but also enrich the relevant research on SMU in enterprises to improve employees' spiritual life within the organization.

Developer creativity is vital for software companies to innovate and survive. Studies on social media have yielded mixed results about its impact on creativity due to the ubiquitous nature of social media. This research differentiates the effects of informational and socializing social media usage on both incremental and radical creativity and explore the moderating role of a developer's openness to experience. Based on a survey of software developers, the authors show that openness positively moderates the impact of informational social media usage on incremental and radical creativity and negatively moderates the impact of socializing social media usage on both types of creativity. There is a stronger positive moderation for the relationship between informational social media usage and radical creativity compared to incremental creativity. The results provide a foundation for understanding explanations of the paradoxical effect of social media usage on creativity.

ABSTRACTSocial media play an important role in emergency management. The location of citizens and distance from a disaster influence the social media usage patterns. Using the Tianjin Port Explosion, we apply the correlation analysis and regression analysis to explore the relationship between online engagement and location. Citizens’ online engagement is estimated by social media. Three dimensions of the psychological distance – spatial, temporal, and social distances – are applied to measure the effects of location and distance. Online engagement is negatively correlated to such 3 kinds of the distance, which indicates that citizens may pay less attention to a disaster that happens at a far away location and at an area of less interaction or at a relatively long period of time. Furthermore, a linear model is proposed to measure the psychological distance. The quantification relationship between online engagement and psychological distance is discussed. The result enhances our understanding of social media usage patterns related to location and distance. The study gives a new insight on situation awareness, decision-making during disasters.

With the advent of the Internet and other digital technologies, contemporary businesses from all sectors are using social media for communication with consumers to engage them meaningfully with a brand. However, the use of social media for corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication is relatively new to the existing literature. Likewise, the impact of CSR communication through social media (CSR-S) on consumer emotions and behavior is, to date, underexplored. To address this, the present research aims to test the relationship of CSR-S on brand admiration and consumer purchase intention. The study proposes a direct relationship between CSR-S and purchase intention with a mediating effect of brand admiration. The data were collected from the banking consumers of Pakistan through a self-administered questionnaire. The authors distributed 800 questionnaires and received 463 questionnaires useful for data analysis, so the present research study response rate was around 59%. The data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique in AMOS. The results revealed that CSR-S is positively related to purchase intention (β = 0.233). The results further showed that brand admiration partially mediates this relationship (β = 0.079). The survey respondents confirmed that their bank’s CSR communication helps enhance their purchase likelihood and their feelings of admiration for their bank. These findings will help policymakers at banking institutions better understand the importance of CSR communication on different social media platforms to achieve consumer-related outcomes.
