ABSTRACTTraditional lecture-centered approaches alone are inadequate for preparing students for the challenges of creative problem solving in the STEM disciplines. As an alternative, learnercentered and other high-impact pedagogies are gaining prominence. The Wabash College 3D Printing and Fabrication Center (3D-PFC) supports several initiatives on campus, but one of the most successful is a computer-aided design (CAD) and fabrication-based undergraduate research internship program. The first cohort of four students participated in an eight-week program during the summer of 2015. A second group of the four students was successfully recruited to participate the following summer. This intensive materials science research experience challenged students to employ digital design and fabrication in the design, testing, and construction of inexpensive scientific instrumentation for use in introductory STEM courses at Wabash College. The student research interns ultimately produced a variety of successful new designs that could be produced for less than $25 per device and successfully detect analytes of interest down to concentrations in the parts per million (ppm) range. These student-produced instruments have enabled innovations in the way introductory instrumental analysis is taught on campus. Beyond summer work, the 3D-PFC staffed student interns during the academic year, where they collaborated on various cross-disciplinary projects with students and faculty from departments such as mathematics, physics, biology, rhetoric, history, classics, and English. Thus far, the student work has led to three campus presentations, four presentations at national professional conferences, and three peer-reviewed publications. The following report highlights initial progress as well as preliminary assessment findings.

Universities are undertaking transformation projects that align their work with the Sustainable Development Goals. This paper describes how Ocean I3, an educational innovation project that aims to reduce plastic in the sea, has made an impact on its community over its three editions (2018/19 to 2020/21). Methodologically, it has been approached by the people who make up the technical team and academic coordination as an exploratory study using discrete, non-reactive techniques, mainly from the public domain (websites, blogs, press releases, etc.), and instruments, such as field notes and work material to manage, organize, and train within the project. The analytical procedure has represented a dynamic and systematic process of categorisation. The results highlight the repercussion of the project in terms of capstone projects, master’s thesis, coursework, etc., produced by the students involved; association with employability; collaborative work from the teaching teams; monitoring experience for research purposes, and social dissemination of the project. It concludes by suggesting lines for Ocean I3 to work on in the future to make its footprint sustainable in institutions over time.

Purpose: The purposes of this research were to design a professional development (PD) initiative to introduce teachers to a pedagogical innovation—the Meaningful Physical Education (PE) approach—and to understand their experiences of the PD process. Method: Twelve PE teachers in Canada engaged in an ongoing PD initiative, designed around characteristics of effective PD, across two school years as they learned about and implemented Meaningful PE. Qualitative data were collected and analyzed. Findings: This research showed that teachers valued a community of practice and modeling when learning to implement Meaningful PE. While teachers were mostly favorable to the PD design, there were several tensions between ideal and realistic forms of PD. Discussion: This research offers support for several characteristics of effective PD to support teachers’ implementation of a novel pedagogical approach and highlights the need to balance tensions in providing forms of PD that are both effective and practical.

The concepts of gender and sex have been considered in recent literature as elements of power, under the circumstance of contemporary floating constructions. In the field of Education, a “deconstructed”, non-normative look is needed as a political act on issues of sexual diversity and gender. The curriculum as a culture can and must take a Queer view at school. In this research we intend to make a comparative study on sexual and gender diversity in the academic environment, listening to the voices of students from the University of Madeira and the Federal University of Sergipe. In this way, we emphasize coeducation in the construction of inclusive environments and their contribution in the field of pedagogical innovation. The discussion of these themes in the academy is fundamental for the conceptual renewal and the organizational contexts of the practice of pedagogy. It also contributes to important changes in social agendas.

Syftet med denna artikel är att undersöka hur strävanden att professionalisera handledning i lärarutbildning i Norge och Finland genomförts och har resulterat i två olika partnerskapsmodeller. Fokus är i denna artikel på handledning av undervisnings-praktik. Artikeln handlar dels om den historiska framväxten av undervisningspraktik och -handledning av lärarstuderande inom lärarutbildning, dels om två exempel på pågående utvecklingsarbete inom området handledning i lärarstuderandes under-visningspraktik. I en jämförande uppställning lyfter författarna fram avgörande brytningspunkter i utvecklingen av praktik med åtföljande handledning inom lärar-utbildningen i Norge, respektive Finland. Med stöd av ett empiriskt material som synliggör hur idag verksamma handledare resonerar om kännetecken för professionell handledning, för författarna en diskussion om rådande utvecklingslinjer i Norge, med en kontrasterande jämförelse med utvecklingen i Finland. Analyserna är genomförda, dels som historisk analys (baserad på litteratur om ämnet), dels som tematisk narrativ analys av ett empiriskt material om handledning producerat som uppgift under en fortbildning i Norge respektive inom ramen för en samling med övningsskollärare i Finland.Övningsskolan i Finland har genomgått transformation, från att tidvis ha varit hårt kritiserad som konservativ och obenägen till förnyelse, samt för ojämförligt goda resurser, till att i dagsläget ha en styrkt plats som centrum för pedagogisk innovation, forskning och handledning. Den norska universitetsskolan är ung, men har likheter med dagens finska övningsskola rörande pedagogisk innovation, forskning och handledning. I dagens läge kan vi notera att professionaliseringssträvande knutna till handledning av lärarstuderande är dels uppifrån styrda, dels utvecklade inifrån professionen. Nyckelord: professionalisering, handledning, övningsskola, universitetsskola, lärarutbildning Partnership within teacher education in Norway and Finland: historical prerequisites for and practice teachers’ understanding of professional supervision AbstractThe aim of this article is to explore how attempts to professionalise supervision in teacher education in Norway and Finland have been carried out and have resulted in two different partnership models. The focus of this article is on the supervision of future teachers’ teaching practice. The article partly comprises the historical emergence of teaching practice and its supervision. It contains two examples of ongoing developmental work within the field of supervision of future teachers’ teaching practice. In juxtaposition, the authors highlight decisive turning points in the development of practice and supervision in teacher education in Norway and Finland, respectively. Based on empirical material which makes visible how supervisors currently reason around the characteristics of professional supervision, the authors discuss the predominant developmental lines in Norway, with a contrasting comparison with those in Finland. The analyses are carried out partly as historical analyses (based on literature about the subject), and partly as thematic narrative analyses of empirical material about supervision which was produced as a task during a continuous education course in Norway, and respectively in Finland within the frames of a seminar for teachers at a teacher education practice school.The practice school in Finland has undergone a transformation, from a time of being strongly criticised as conservative and not willing to renew itself, as well as of having incomparably rich resources, to the current situation, where it now has a strengthened position as a centre for pedagogical innovation, research and supervision. The Norwegian university school is young but has similarities with the Finnish practice school of today concerning pedagogical innovation, research and supervision. For the time being, we may note that the attempts to professionalise supervision are partly decided from outside, and partly developed from inside the profession. This article is substantiating the relevance of the development of educational tourism caused by the trends of globalization and internationalization of education. The analysis of scientific works on the research of educational tourism is presented. It is noted that despite the relatively long history of the existence of some forms of educational tourism, taking into account the views of scientists that innovation in education is not always a completely new phenomenon, educational tourism can be considered a pedagogical innovation. According to the authors, the existing conviction of scientists about the close relationship of pedagogical innovations with information technologies enhances the innovativeness of virtual educational tourism. The periodization of educational tourism from antiquity to the present day is presented. The significant impact of travels for knowledge and academic exchanges on the modern infrastructure of the tourism industry is noted. Indicating the role of educational tourism for the development of international cooperation in education, the authors analyze the dynamics of external and internal academic mobility in the period from 2015 to 2019 years at the Kostanay State Pedagogical University, which now is Kostanay Regional University named after A. Baitursynov. The innovative nature of modern educational tourism, which is enhanced by the use of information and communication technologies and digital resources, along with traditional forms of tourist and educational activities, is emphasized. A virtual excursion is considered as one of the innovative forms of education. The experience of the participation of students of pedagogical specialties in the development and implementation of digital resources in secondary schools in a virtual environment, contributing to the formation of the readiness of future teachers for productive activities in the context of distance education, is presented.

O conhecimento básico sobre a neurociência é importante em diversos aspectos da vida, já que permite o entendimento de processos neurais presentes em nosso dia a dia, como a cognição e a aprendizagem. Para o professor, principal mediador da construção do conhecimento na sala de aula, o conhecimento desta temática é importante para facilitar sua prática pedagógica, já que a neurociência contribui para a compreensão dos processos cognitivos e das individualidades de cada aluno. O objetivo deste estudo é relatar a percepção e o conhecimento de professores da Educação Básica do município de Uruguaiana/RS acerca da neurociência e sua importância para a educação, antes e após a realização da oitava edição do curso de formação continuada intitulado “Curso de Neurociência Aplicada à Educação”. No total, vinte e oito (28) professores participaram do curso, que abordou diferentes temas: neurociência e educação, neuroanatomia, neurofisiologia, neurobiologia da aprendizagem e memória, fatores que interferem na aprendizagem e inovação pedagógica. De acordo com a percepção dos professores, o curso ministrado foi de fundamental importância para a aquisição de novos conhecimentos sobre a neurociência, e todos concordaram que os conceitos abordados podem ser aplicados para melhorar sua prática pedagógica e seu ambiente de ensino. Palavras-chave: Aprendizagem; Ensino; Cérebro; Professor   Continuing training in neuroscience: perceptions of basic education teachers   Abstract: Basic neuroscience knowledge is important in all aspects of life, as it allows the understanding of neural processes present in our daily lives, such as cognition and learning. For the teacher, the central mediator of knowledge in the classroom, it is essential to understand this theme since it can facilitate his pedagogical practice since neuroscience teaches to understand the student through their individualities. This study aims to report the perception and knowledge of primary education teachers in Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, about neuroscience, before and after the eighth edition of the continuing education course entitled "Course of Neuroscience Applied to Education." In total, twenty-eight (28) teachers participated in the course, divided into two modules that addressed different themes: neuroscience and education, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, the neurobiology of learning and memory, factors that interfere in learning, and pedagogical innovation. According to the teachers' perception, the course taught was of fundamental importance for acquiring new knowledge about neuroscience, and everyone agreed on the possible applicability of the concepts covered to improve their pedagogical practice and their teaching environment.
