Sound positions individuals as social subjects. The presence of human beings, animals, objects, or technologies reverberates into the spaces we inhabit and produces distinct soundscapes that render social practices, group associations, and socio-cultural tensions audible. The Acoustics of the Social on Page and Screen unites interdisciplinary perspectives on the social dimensions of sound in audiovisual and literary environments. The essays in the collection discuss soundtracks for shared values, group membership, and collective agency, and engage with the subversive functions of sound and sonic forms of resistance in American literature, film, and TV.

The Emperor Jones is the best viewpoint of O’Neill’s plays in depicting the black white people. This play exposes the portraying of black white conflict as modernism ideology. This play is focused on the suffering and the oppression of people. In this study, the scholar uses the qualitative method as storytelling type. In theoretical framework, the critical race theory is related to this study to analyse the speech which tackles the plot, characters and setting according to the concepts of clash of cultures. This study/ this paper also shows the clashes of culture in American society. Furthermore, the implication of this paper will be presented/ indicate the social, educational, linguistic and cultural style. In fact, this paper will add something to American literature by generalizing this study to other studies about black white people. In sum, this paper is to reflect the philosophy of O’Neill in portraying the black white people. The scholar uses the critical race theory to explain the struggles/ conflicts among the human beings. The researcher also uses the qualitative approach and narrative technique to analyse data. In the same way, the data/ material is collected by textual methods and analyse by the narrative approach. This study can be generalized to another study about O’Neill’s perspectives in depicting the black white people.

Value co-creation, in the sharing accommodation sector, has been extensively analyzed but mainly with Airbnb as a reference and focusing mostly on guests’ perceptions. The aim of this study is to analyze the value co-created for users (guests and hosts) in the non-profit sharing accommodation platforms Couchsurfing and HomeExchange. This study also aims to analyze whether the co-created value of these platforms differs from that of for-profit platforms, along with how the outcomes, resources, and practices of the value co-creation process can help create wellbeing for individuals involved in the accommodation experience. Given that most of the existing literature on value co-creation in sharing accommodation platforms is based on Airbnb and guest perspectives, this study is a pioneer in analyzing how guests and hosts co-create value in the context of non-profit accommodation platforms using online travel reviews (OTRs) from non-profit platforms, and how the co-created value contributes to the wellbeing of the individuals involved. Results show that a set of tangible and intangible resources, such as the home and its amenities, helps users on non-profit platforms co-create value and that interaction and social practices between guests and hosts help co-create value for both groups. This implies that non-profit accommodation platforms may contribute more to the social dimensions of wellbeing of their users than for-profit platforms such as Airbnb where the host is typically absent from the experience. In addition, this study demonstrates that the co-created value in non-profit platforms depends on the modus operandi of each platform. On Couchsurfing, guests and hosts co-create more value from their social practices, and on HomeExchange, value co-creation depends more on tangible and intangible resources.

Contests over the meaning and application of the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (“CFAA”) expose long-standing, complex questions about the sources and impacts of the concept of authority in law and culture. Accessing a computer network “without authorization” and by “exceeding authorized access” is forbidden by the CFAA. Courts are divided in their interpretation of this language in the statute. This Article first proposes to address the issue with an insight from social science research. Neither criminal nor civil liability under the CFAA should attach unless the alleged violator has transgressed some border or boundary that is rendered visible or “imageable” in the language of the research on which the argument draws. That claim leads to a second, broader point — emphasizing the potential “imageability” of computer networks, including the Internet, has implications that go beyond one statute because of what that emphasis may teach those who create and implement those networks and who shape the authority that relevant computer code exercises. “Authority” and “authorization” are social practices, continuing negotiations between those who produce them and those who acknowledge and recognize them. “Imageability” is a way of translating that observation into a normative claim in a specific statutory context. Recognizing the social dimensions of “authority” implicates both what kind of Internet society wants and what kind of Internet society will get.

Over the past years, mass media increasingly identified many aspects of social networking with those of established social practices such as gossip. This produced two main outcomes: on the one hand, social networks users were described as gossipers mainly aiming at invading their friends’ and acquaintances’ privacy; on the other hand the potentially violent consequences of social networking were legitimated by referring to a series of recent studies stressing the importance of gossip for the social evolution of human beings. This paper explores the differences between the two kinds of gossip-related sociability, the traditional one and the technologically structured one (where the social framework coincides with the technological one, as in social networking websites). The aim of this reflection is to add to the critical knowledge available today about the effects that transparent technologies have on everyday life, especially as far as the social implications are concerned, in order to prevent (or contrast) those “ignorance bubbles” whose outcomes can be already dramatic.

Neste artigo, pretendemos discutir a educação enquanto fenômeno ontológico, a partir de uma investigação realizada acerca das ações econômicas e dos processos educativos por elas engendrados no contexto histórico das trajetórias de vida de agricultores e agricultoras do Assentamento Santa Helena, situado no meio rural de São Carlos, município do interior do estado de São Paulo. Para tanto, fundamentamos o eixo analítico de nossa perspectiva de produção de conhecimento a partir das categorias “práticas sociais” e “processos educativos”, entendendo que as práticas sociais vivenciadas cotidianamente pelos seres humanos se constituem enquanto práxis essencialmente intersubjetiva, geradora de processos educativos que se projetam no tempo-espaço a partir de situações gnosiológicas problematizadoras da realidade social, a qual, portanto, se conserva permanentemente em transformação. Por meio da fenomenologia, partimos da análise dos acontecimentos descritos pelos (as) agricultores (as) durante as entrevistas realizadas em trabalho de campo, de forma a contemplar a integralidade entre uma possível gnosiologia das relações econômicas e os diversos elementos educativos a ela relacionados, os quais se mostraram presentes no seio de suas trajetórias de vida e que, em nossa compreensão, integram um todo encarnado em suas formas de ser e de agir no presente.Palavras-chave: Processos Educativos; Ação Econômica; Assentamentos da Reforma Agrária; Educação Camponesa. ABSTRACT: In this article, we intend to discuss education as an ontological phenomenon. The discussion is based on an investigation carried out on the economic actions and educational processes that they engendered in the historical context of the life trajectories of farmers in the Santa Helena Settlement in São Carlos, a municipality in the interior of the state of São Paulo. In order to do so, we base the analytical axis of our perspective on knowledge production from the categories “social practices” and “educational processes”, considering that the social practices lived daily by human beings constitute an essentially inter-subjective praxis, generating educational processes that are projected in time-space from problematic gnosiological situations from social reality, which is kept in constant transformation. Through phenomenology, we start with an analysis of events described by farmers during interviews conducted during fieldwork, in order to contemplate the integrality between a possible gnosiology of economic relations and the various educational elements related to it, which have been present in the midst of their life trajectories and which, in our understanding, integrate a whole embodied in their ways of being and acting in the present.Keywords: Educational Processes; Economic Action; Settlements of Agrarian Reform; Peasant Education.

Abstract Some recent readings of Hegel have stressed the social dimension of Hegel’s philosophy in order to ward off common exaggerations and misconceptions about his idealism. Robert Brandom, for example, has pointed to “pragmatist themes in Hegel’s idealism.” But a general question arises as to whether this deflationary strategy really does justice to Hegel’s thought : what becomes of the logical preconditions for knowledge and agency, on which Hegel places much emphasis, and how exactly do these preconditions mesh with the natural and social dimensions of experience ? On the basis of passages in the Encyclopedia and other texts, this paper argues for a modest transcendentalism in Hegel, in order to avoid the over-correction that consists in reducing Hegel’s concept of the concept to a network of social practices.

Fakir Baykurt’un Almanya öyküleri, sunduğu gerçekler açısından, sosyal bilimlerin ortaya koyduğu verilerle bağdaşan edebiyat ürünleri arasındadır. Yirmi yılını geçirdiği Almanya’da, göçmen işçilerle ve aileleriyle birlikte olup işçi çocuklarının eğitimine yönelik çalışmalarda bulunan yazarın gözlem ve deneyimlerinin ürünü olan bu öyküler, kaynağını yaşanmışlıktan alır; çalışmanın ilk kısmında, Fakir Baykurt’un yaşamına ve Almanya yıllarına dair bilgi verilmesi, bununla ilişkilidir. Bu öyküler, edebiyatın toplumsal gerçekleri en iyi yansıtan sanat olduğu görüşünü doğrular niteliktedir ve sosyolojik değerlendirmelere açıktır. ENGLISH ABSTRACTMigration and Children in Fakir Baykurt’s stories from GermanyThe migration of workers to Germany has been taken up with its causes, consequences and social dimensions; the migration and the problems encountered in subsequent phases have been stated by experts in the subject. Fakir Baykurt’s stories from Germany, regarding the reality they represent, are among the literary forms that coincide with the facts supplied by social sciences. These stories take their sources from true life experiences as the products of observations and experiences with migrant workers and their families in Germany where the writer has passed twenty years of his life and worked for the education of the worker’s children; therefore information related to Fakir Baykurt’s life and his years in Germany are provided in the first part of the study.  The life of children reflected in the stories constitutes the main theme of the study.  Under  the subtitles of “Family and Home Life”, “Education Life and related issues”, “Social environment, friendships and Turkish-German disparity” and “Amidst two cultures”, the lives in Germany of children who have been  raised in working class  families and  who have immigrated from Turkey are  evaluated under the light of facts provided by the stories and examples are given. These stories appear to confirm that literature is an art that reflects the social reality and is open to sociological assessments.KEYWORDS: Fakir Baykurt; Germany; labor migration; child; story

This chapter examines the social functions of speaker-oriented attitude datives in Levantine Arabic. It analyzes these datives as perspectivizers used by a speaker to instruct her hearer to view her as a form of authority in relation to him, to the content of her utterance, and to the activity they are both involved in. The nature of this authority depends on the sociocultural, situational, and co-textual context, including the speaker’s and hearer’s shared values and beliefs, their respective identities, and the social acts employed in interaction. The chapter analyzes specific instances of speaker-oriented attitude datives as used in different types of social acts (e.g., commands, complaints) and in different types of settings (e.g., family talk, gossip). It also examines how these datives interact with facework, politeness, and rapport management.
