In this article, we tackle the issue of sentiment analysis in three Maghrebi dialects used in social networks. More precisely, we are interested by analysing sentiments in Algerian, Moroccan and Tunisian corpora. To do this, we built automatically three lexicons of sentiments, one for each dialect. Each lexicon is composed of words with their polarities, a dialect word could be written in Arabic or in Latin scripts. These lexicons may include French or English words as well as words in Arabic dialect and standard Arabic. The semantic orientation of a word represented by an embedding vector is determined automatically by calculating its distance with several embedding seed words. The embedding vectors are trained on three large corpora collected from YouTube. The proposed approach is evaluated by using few existing annotated corpora in Tunisian and Moroccan dialects. For the Algerian dialect, in addition to a small corpus we found in the literature, we collected and annotated one composed of 10k comments extracted from Youtube. This corpus represents a valuable resource which is proposed for free.

Sentiment analysis is widely used to retrieve the hidden sentiments in medical discussions over Online Social Networking platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. People often tend to convey their feelings concerning their medical problems over social media platforms. Practitioners and health care workers have started to observe these discussions to assess the impact of health-related issues among the people. This helps in providing better care to improve the quality of life. Dementia is a serious disease in western countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom, and the respective governments are providing facilities to the affected people. There is much chatter over social media platforms concerning the patients’ care, healthy measures to be followed to avoid disease, check early indications. These chatters have to be carefully monitored to help the officials take necessary precautions for the betterment of the affected. A novel Feature engineering architecture that involves feature-split for sentiment analysis of medical chatter over online social networks with the pipeline is proposed that can be used on any Machine Learning model. The proposed model used the fuzzy membership function in refining the outputs. The machine learning model has obtained sentiment score is subjected to fuzzification and defuzzification by using the trapezoid membership function and center of sums method, respectively. Three datasets are considered for comparison of the proposed and the regular model. The proposed approach delivered better results than the normal approach and is proved to be an effective approach for sentiment analysis of medical discussions over online social networks.

The purpose of this article is to study one of the methods of social networks analysis – text sentiment analysis. Today, social media has become a big data base that social network analysis is used for various purposes – from setting up targeted advertising for a cosmetics store to preventing riots at the state level. There are various methods for analyzing social networks such as graph method, text sentiment analysis, audio, and video object analysis. Among them, sentiment analysis is widely used for political, social, consumer research, and also for cybersecurity. Since the analysis of the sentiment of the text involves the analysis of the emotional opinions expressed in the text, the first step is to define the term opinion. An opinion can be simple, that is, a positive, negative or neutral emotion towards a particular object or its aspect. Comparison is also an opinion, but devoid of emotional connotation. To work with simple opinions, the first task of text sentiment analysis is to classify the text. There are three levels of classifications: classification at the text level, at the level of a sentence, and at the aspect level of the object. After classifying the text at the desired level, the next task is to extract structured data from unstructured information. The problem can be solved using the five-tuple method. One of the important elements of a tuple is the aspect in which an opinion is usually expressed. Next, aspect-based sentiment analysis is applied, which involves identifying aspects of the desired object and assessing the polarity of mood for each aspect. This task is divided into two sub-tasks such as aspect extraction and aspect classification. Sentiment analysis has limitations such as the definition of sarcasm and difficulty of working with abbreviated words.

In this digital era, people are very keen to share their feedback about any product, services, or current issues on social networks and other platforms. A fine analysis of these feedbacks can give a clear picture of what people think about a particular topic. This work proposed an almost unsupervised Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis approach for textual reviews. Latent Dirichlet Allocation, along with linguistic rules, is used for aspect extraction. Aspects are ranked based on their probability distribution values and then clustered into predefined categories using frequent terms with domain knowledge. SentiWordNet lexicon uses for sentiment scoring and classification. The experiment with two popular datasets shows the superiority of our strategy as compared to existing methods. It shows the 85% average accuracy when tested on manually labeled data.

With the rapid development of mobile Internet, the social network has become an important platform for users to receive, release, and disseminate information. In order to get more valuable information and implement effective supervision on public opinions, it is necessary to study the public opinions, sentiment tendency, and the evolution of the hot events in social networks of a smart city. In view of social networks’ characteristics such as short text, rich topics, diverse sentiments, and timeliness, this paper conducts text modeling with words co-occurrence based on the topic model. Besides, the sentiment computing and the time factor are incorporated to construct the dynamic topic-sentiment mixture model (TSTS). Then, four hot events were randomly selected from the microblog as datasets to evaluate the TSTS model in terms of topic feature extraction, sentiment analysis, and time change. The results show that the TSTS model is better than the traditional models in topic extraction and sentiment analysis. Meanwhile, by fitting the time curve of hot events, the change rules of comments in the social network is obtained.

Social media have become an important means of imposing ideas and interests in social‏ conflicts. The Syrian conflict is analysed using sentiment analysis of tweets in order to establish how the‏ sentiment shapes the modern political landscape and influences recipient knowledge. The importance of‏ social networks and their potential in overthrowing regimes as well as in radicalization are highlighted.‏ The authors suggest several stages that can be used for analysing tweets and how they impact the reader‏ with selected narration. Sentiment analysis is used on a trained data set as a way to gain insight into‏ tweets of different factions in the Syria conflict. Selected tweets on missile strikes were published on 14‏ April 2018 and the day after. The Twitter profiles of three different sides – pro-Assad, pro-West and anti-‏ Assad – were also analysed. The results show that there is a real battle on social media with the purpose‏ of influencing human emotions.

With the rapid growth of availability and popularity of online review sites, blogs', forums', and social networking sites' necessity of analysing and understanding these reviews has arisen. The main approaches for sentiment analysis can be categorized into semantic orientation-based approaches, knowledge-based, and machine-learning algorithms. This chapter surveys the machine learning approaches applied to sentiment analysis-based applications. The main emphasis of this chapter is to discuss the research involved in applying machine learning methods mostly for sentiment classification at document level. Machine learning-based approaches work in the following phases, which are discussed in detail in this chapter for sentiment classification: (1) feature extraction, (2) feature weighting schemes, (3) feature selection, and (4) machine-learning methods. This chapter also discusses the standard free benchmark datasets and evaluation methods for sentiment analysis. The authors conclude the chapter with a comparative study of some state-of-the-art methods for sentiment analysis and some possible future research directions in opinion mining and sentiment analysis.
