That professor! What he says is great—but that idea just won't work in the classroom!” These statements may be common among some teacher education students. Such comments are now heard much less frequently, however, around the University of Houston. The mathematics education faculty is experimenting with a competency- based program, as part of a collegewide endeavor, that requires prospective teachers to actually use in their classrooms what they hear and read about teaching. Initial experiences with this program suggest several advantages both for teachers in training and for teacher educators. This article describes some features and benefits of one type of approach to competency-based mathematics education.

Mathematics Education of UIN Raden Intan Lampung has a problem in the process of preparing the thesis proposal seminar schedule, because there are many students who conduct seminars in the adjacent period. During this time the preparation of the proposal seminar schedule is done manually, not infrequently many schedule lecturers and examiners are clashing with other student proposal seminar schedules. To overcome these problems, a thesis proposal seminar schedule was arranged by applying the concept of point coloring to graphs using the Welch Powell Algorithm. The points on the graph are represented as students who will conduct a thesis proposal seminar, while the side that connects the two points states that these two points have one and / or two supervisors. The research method used is the study method of literature study. The results of this study indicate that graph coloring using Welch Powell algorithm can be applied to arrange seminar schedule for students' thesis proposal for Mathematics Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. The aim of this study is to determine student’s language reasoning of Mathematics Education and Accounting Education in Teaching Training and Education Faculty of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara University. The research method used is an experimental method, where Mathematics Education as a control class or without using cooperative models and Accounting Education as a class experiment or use a cooperative learning models. The sample of this study is 65 students consisting of Mathematics Education students as many as 40 students, Accounting Education students as many as 25 students. Research results on Mathematics Education students through tests without using cooperative learning models obtained Mean= 73.50. Research results on Accounting Education through tests after using cooperative learning models obtained Mean= 76.20. Hypothesis tests conducted by statistical test or t test, it is obtained t count = 1.78 and t table = 1.68. Thus, t count is greater than t table, it can be concluded that cooperative models applied to Accounting Education in learning can improve student’s language reasoning.
