Abstract. The study proposes advanced analyses of the monastic citiy of the western coastal area of the Athos Peninsula in Greece. This research is the result of architectural and environmental survey campaigns conducted since July 2020.The current bibliographic documentation is limited, and most of the volumes focus on an art and historical description of the paintings in the monasteries, as well as on visitors’ travel notes.Through the consolidated phases of the discipline of representation, such as digital surveying, point clouds and the processing of flat surfaces, a journey of knowledge of the third arm of the Chalkidiki peninsula is proposed with regard to the religious architecture considered as micro-cities.The initial part of the research was developed with photographic documentation from the sea, while in subsequent survey phase of the monasteries on the west coast was carried out.The instrumental survey activities, carried out with the help of quadrihelix drones and terrestrial photogrammetry, concerned the Monastery of St. Dionysius, the Monastery of Xeropotmus, the Monastery of Zographos, the Monastery of Dochiario, the Monastery of Simonpetra, the Monastery of St. Paul, the Monastery of Xenophon, the Monastery of St. Gregory, the Monastery of St. Pantaleimon and the Monastery of Konstamonitou.The research aims to expose, for the first time, the unpublished instrumental surveys carried out in the Athos community, which has been averse to the access of tourists and curious people for centuries.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Los Angeles audiences saw Soviet defectors Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alexander Godunov, Natalia Makarova, and Rudolf Nureyev in the prime of their careers at the Hollywood Bowl, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Greek Theater. Dance photographer Donald Dale Bradburn, a local Southern California dancer describes his behind-the-scenes access to these dancers in this interview. Four species of squat lobsters were collected off the northwestern coast of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, during an exploratory survey of fishing resources. Janethogalathea californiensis, described from California was previously known from off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula (two localities) and from the Gulf of California (three localities). Of the three species of Munida collected during the survey, M. tenella is recorded off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula for the first time. These are the fourth record of M. hispida and the second record of M. quadrispina in western Mexico.

The Third West African Languages Congress took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone, from March 26 to April 1, 1963. This was the third of the annual meetings of those interested in West African languages sponsored by the West African Languages Survey, previous meetings having been held in Accra (1961) and Dakar (1962). The West African Languages Survey is a Ford Foundation project. Additional financial assistance from UNESCO and other sources contributed materially to the scope and success of the meeting. This meeting was larger than previous ones both in attendance and in number of papers presented and, it may be said, in regard to the scientific level of the papers presented. The official participants, seventy-two in number, came from virtually every country in West Africa, from Western European countries and from the United States. The linguistic theme of the meeting was the syntax of West African languages, and a substantial portion of the papers presented were on this topic. In addition, there was for the first time at these meetings a symposium on the teaching of English, French and African languages in Africa. The papers of this symposium will be published in the forthcoming series of monographs planned as a supplement to the new Journal of West African Languages. The other papers are to appear in the Journal of African Languages edited by Jack Berry of the School of Oriental and African Studies.

A total of 16 species of the family Leiognathidae have been collected from the commercial landings from Cochin and Neendakara on the western coast of India from 1998–2000. Detailed morphometric data have been collected and all 16 species are redescribed with live color photographs here. Various relationships in the morphometric characteristics have been studied and regression equations fitted to enable comparison of the populations of these species from Kerala with those from other regions. Of the 16 species collected and described in the present work, five species, Nuchequula nuchalis, Equulites absconditus, Equulites leuciscus, Aurigequula longispina, and Gazza achlamys, are reported for the first time from the entire western coast of India.

Six nephtyid species were identified from samples collected off the west coast of Saudi Arabia. Two of these species had been previously reported for the Red Sea (Inermonephtys aff. inermis, Nephtys palatii), three are new records (Aglaophamus lobatus, A. cf. verrilli, Micronephthys stammeri) and one is new to science (Inermonephtys aramco). Inermonephtys aramco was collected in the southern region of the Red Sea at depths between 60 and 83 m. It is characterized by the presence of branchiae from chaetiger 15 or 16, well-developed parapodial prechaetal lamellae, broadly rounded notopodial postchaetal lamellae and rudimentary neuropodial postchaetal lamellae. The species Nephtys palatii is transferred to the genus Micronephthys. Based on the current finding, the previously known bathymetric range of Micronephthys stammeri is extended from 4–7 to 17 m, and occurrence depths for N. palatii are given for the first time (4–90 m). Full descriptions are included for all species except M. stammeri. An identification key for all the species known to occur in the Red Sea is provided.

The presence of a diverse range of epibionts was found on Pagurus bernhardus from the west coast of Scotland. The invertebrate species found on the shell inhabited by the crab were the hydrozoans Hydractinia echinata and Dycorine conferta, the cirripeds Balanus balanus and Balanus crenatus, the polychaetes Hydroides norvegica, Pomatoceros triqueter and Circeis armoricana, and the molluscs Hiatella arctica and Anomia ephippium. On the crab were observed the polychaete Circeis armoricana and the amphipod Podoceropsis nitida. In addition, on the gastropod shells occupied by P. bernhardus, ciliate protozoan species were found attached to the hydrozoan Dycorine conferta, this being hyperepibiosis. These ciliates were 6 suctorian (Conchacineta constricta, Corynophrya anisostyla, Actinocyathula homari, Actinocyathula crenata, Acineta sulcata and Acineta corophii), and one peritrich species (Zoothamnium sp.). This is the first time that this hyperepibiosis was observed. In contrast to the epibiont communities observed in previous surveys in the same sampling area, basibiont specimens without D. conferta did not show ciliate epibionts. The ciliate epibionts also were not present on the surface of the shell and crab in specimens with D. conferta; they only appeared in hyperepibiosis on the surface of the hydrozoan. The spatial distribution and abundance of the invertebrate epibiont species were analysed, as well as the morphology, taxonomy and distribution of the ciliate hyperepibionts.

The central beach in west coast of Nha Trang bay has experienced erosion in recent years. The determination of hydrodynamic regime and causes of this beach fluctuation is still an open problem and is concerned by scientists and managers. This study shows the causes and scales of the shoreline change processes based on the results of shoreline change model and the analysis of remote sensing images of shoreline location.

For the first time the level of endemism in high-mountain flora of north-west edge of uplands of the Caucasus was estimated. A uniquely high level of endemism in Fisht-Oshten Massif and Chernomorskaya (Black Sea) Chain was observed: 28.4% (342 species) with predominance of Caucasian (9.2%), Pan Caucasian (7.4%) and West-Caucasian (5.1%) endemics. Colchis and North Colchis endemics total take 5.8%, and together with local endemics riches the third position. The level of endemism of alpine species is one of the highest in the Caucasus and is 43.2% (276 species). The levels of endemism revealed general trends, depending on the remoteness of local flora from the main diaspora on the Fisht-Oshten massif and the current area of the meadow belt. These trends are visible for endemics of all ranks, with the exception of the West Caucasian endemic, whose number is higher in the eastern part of Black Sea Chain and is falling sharply to the west part.
