This paper analyses the changing scenario of information use pattern in the academic libraries of Tamilnadu. Libraries play a vital role in higher education and research. In fact, it collects a number of printed documents such as books, journals, magazines, encyclopedia, dictionaries, yearbooks, news papers and non-printed materials like CDs, Microfiche, Microfilms, Databases, e-learning resources related to the courses offered in the college/university in order to meet the various information requirements of users at graduate, post graduate and research levels. The ancient libraries preserved and circulated the information sources in the printed or written forms. But, the development of science and technology have modernized the form of documents and changed the information use pattern of users. It is seen that the present users prefer non-printed materials to printed one. In other words, the demand for non-printed materials is more than the printed one and the time utilized in the information communication technological based information sources and services is more than that in printed documents circulation section. It shows that there is a change in the information use pattern of users in higher educational libraries. Hence an attempt is made to find out the changing scenario of information use pattern and factors motivating it in the higher educational libraries of Tamilnadu.

In the last two decades, technology has evolved at a great pace and has influenced almost all spheres of life and education is no exception to it. Nowadays, most of the educational institutions are using various tools and equipments to impart education to the students. This paper has tried to explore the impact of e-education tools on thestudents in higher educational institutions. The sample consists of students enrolled in higher educational institutions. Both quantitative and qualitative methods have been adopted for data collection including questionnaires, semi-structured &open-ended interviews. Use of computer and internet was found to be one of the most important e-learning tools. The findings are expected to assist the higher educational institutions in framing their policies to impart quality education to the students.

Modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They are extending services beyond the physical walls of a building, by providing material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing very large amounts of information with a variety of digital resources. Libraries are increasingly becoming community hubs where programs are delivered and people engage in lifelong learning. The aim of this study was to investigate the information use pattern of library by faculty members of Annapoorana Engineering College at Salem. Specifically, five purposes and research questions guided the study. It adopted a descriptive survey design and had a population of 80. From the above population questionnaire were distributed with all (80) and 75 questionnaires were returned; representing a return rate of 94%. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency tables and percentage method and to arrive at conclusion.

Technology plays a vital role in the field of e-Learning in adult education curriculum. The intent for this chapter is to explore the implications for e-Learning in hopes to stimulate attention as it relates to the acquisition of knowledge and inferences for higher education practitioners and program designers in terms of the contexts of students, embedded technology, and faculty. Conquering the challenges facing technology implications in any educational system is vital and ideally this chapter offers a means of collective literature to increase the quite extensive and potentially overwhelming components of effective curriculum programs within the field of adult education, using embedded technology. This chapter highlights briefly some of the concepts and identifies simple and applicable suggestions for increasing effectiveness of embedded technology into higher education curriculum and adult education teaching.

The issues of program informatisation of higher educational establishments of the medical field, introduction of mixed learning technology, in order to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian medical universities, the widespread use of e-learning, electronic learning management, information and methodological support for the development of educational content are considered. It is emphasized that there are currently no alternatives to informatisation of educational institutions, and the main goal of informatisation of higher education institutions in the medical field should be to ensure harmonization between market needs in medical and pharmaceutical specialists with specific competencies, with world tendencies and results of functioning of higher educational institutions.

Self-directed learning is a significant requirement for the development of lifelong learning and has globally developed into a vital role in academic learning. In this chapter, the author will firstly reflect on the social, cultural, educational, and economic characteristics of ODeL students studying through an open and distributed e-learning model. The purpose of this chapter is to reflect on various skills such as cognitive, organizational, emotional, and information communication technology skills that studying through an open and distributed e-learning model (ODeL) demands. A few situational challenges stemming from students' social, cultural, and previous educational contexts are discussed. Thereafter, the concept, self-directed learning, as a requirement for successful academic achievement in ODeL is presented. Lastly, instructional strategies are recommended to support and enhance students' self-directed learning to empower them to overcome the academic challenges in open and distributed e-learning.

Social media tools are observed to play a vital role in the renovation of the conventional teaching and learning practices across the globe. Though primarily developed for online social communication, social media platforms tend to possess suitable tools that can be used for instructional purposes in order to initiate active learning among students. Additionally, the social publishing features that support User Generated Content (UGC) act as powerful drivers in converting social media sites into informal, networked and constructive virtual learning environments. The present study aims to analyse the use of social media platforms for educational purposes in developing nations such as India. The study intends to examine the penetration and reception of social media platforms in higher educational institutions in urban as well as the technologically deprived rural areas. An extensive survey was conducted among the faculty members in the higher educational institutions in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The research reveals the present diffusion level of social software in the academic sector of Tamil Nadu, a state containing a varied technological landscape due to its internal digital divide and many other infrastructural discrepancies. Additionally, factors that induce and the barriers that affect the pedagogical employment of social media tools by the higher education faculty members have been identified.

Information communication and technologies (ICT) as a facilitator of active learning (AL) in higher education is becoming an increasingly important tool. One of the most significant developments with the use of ICT in higher education over the last decade has been the integration and application of e-learning systems to support the processes of teaching and learning. The implementation of ICT into the classroom should not be seen as merely an add-on, but should be included with purpose: meaningfully implemented based on pedagogy. Despite the suggested power of ICT in educating students for a modern future, the implementation of these technologies into the classroom is not as widespread as expected; debate still abounds as to what role ICT should play in the classroom. This research examined a variety of dependable attributes that assessed the engagement of undergraduate students (n1=87) through virtual whiteboards. This quantitative inquiry revealed that students perceived virtual whiteboards as beneficial for their learning and improved their engagement level in the classroom. Furthermore, a correlation between the level of engagement and the year of study was revealed as the primary implication of this research.
