This work discusses the possible functions of disconnected excerpts in essays of the Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (ENEM) [National High School Exam]. To ground our reflections, we resume the concepts of genre (BAKHTIN, 2006, 2011), genre format subversion (MARCUSCHI, 2008), and incoherence (KOCH; TRAVAGLIA, 2008). In the analysis, we compare the effects that the use of disconnected excerpts caused in three ENEM essays to the effects in two other genres, a petition and a blog post. We raise three possible functions for the insertion of these excerpts: that this may be an argumentative strategy; that the author reacts to the probable readers’ attention loss; and that the author tests the dialogical character of the essay. We conclude that the use of these excerpts in ENEM does not necessarily make texts incoherent, but the condition of textual production demands a greater stability of the genre’s format.

In this article, we present the analysis of the construction of speech projects marked by discursive intentions in textual productions of the digital meme genre, elaborated by students of Integrated Technical High School. The study is based on discussions about digital literacy, on Bakhtinian discussions about gender discourse and on conceptual contributions about meme. The research was configured as qualitative interpretativist, having been the data generated from a textual production workshop held with 12 IFAP students. Based on the results, it is possible to observe that the construction of the participants' speech projects is configured as productions that are established from a situated context and are loaded with evaluative appreciations in their thematic contents. The analysis also shows that the textual productions of the meme genre texts mirror meanings that go beyond both the production situation (time of the workshop) and the idea that this genre would only serve to arouse mood.

Chemistry Education as an instrument of environmental awareness aims to work on the importance of caring for the environment, seeking a better understanding and development of critical citizen thinking about the environmental problems that are getting worse every day. In this sense, it is necessary to approach environmental education at school, aiming to raise students' awareness. The study of environmental education in schools makes future generations develop more conscious, critical and sustainable thinking in relation to the paths taken that involve the environment and society in general. In order to achieve the objective presented, it was necessary to develop some activities carried out in the classroom and outside of it, with a second-grade class from the State Elementary and High School located in the Nova Floresta city, Brazil. These activities were divided into five moments, which aimed to analyze knowledge about the generator theme: construction of concept maps in the classroom; preparation of pamphlets, addressing the correct way to dispose of garbage; field class at the city dump and requested a textual production activity; production of parodies, cartoons, comics and cordel; workshop for the production of objects with recyclable materials. According to the results obtained, it was observed the interest and commitment of the students to develop the activities and dedication on the theme, considering that, there was enthusiasm on the part of the students to carry out a certain deepening about the damages to the environment, as well as, the reuse of materials that alleviate the excess of accumulated garbage.

High school cosmetology students study the methods and effects of various human hair treatments, including permanents, straightening, conditioning, coloring and cutting. Although they are provided with textbook examples of overtreatment and numerous hair disorders and diseases, a view of an individual hair at the high resolution offered by an SEM provides convincing evidence of the hair‘s altered structure. Magnifications up to 2000X provide dramatic differences in perspective. A good quality classroom optical microscope can be very informative at lower resolutions.Students in a cosmetology class are initially split into two groups. One group is taught basic controls on the SEM (focus, magnification, brightness, contrast, specimen X, Y, and Z axis movements). A healthy, untreated piece of hair is initially examined on the SEM The second group cements a piece of their own hair on a stub. The samples are dryed quickly using heat or vacuum while the groups trade places and activities.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the ways in which adolescent students who stutter perceive their school experiences. Method This study used a qualitative, phenomenological research design. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 7 adolescent students who stutter (3 in middle school and 4 in high school). Participants were interviewed about their school experiences, including the effects of stuttering on academics, learning, teacher relationships, peer relationships, speech therapy experiences, and self-image. Data analysis consisted of transcribing interviews and analyzing them for emerging themes. Results Findings revealed that participants described a variety of experiences around the school setting. Participants reported less favorable middle school experiences. Middle school participants reflected more on teasing, bullying, and feelings of embarrassment, whereas high school participants revealed that teachers, staff, and peers were receptive and accepting of them and their stuttering. All participants reported that their speech therapy helped with classroom participation. Conclusions As a result of the participants' varied experiences, it is important to listen to and incorporate the voices of students who stutter into school, classroom, and therapy decision-making practices.
