The Industrial Revolution 4.0 Era is a golden opportunity for woman to develop their potential to be equal to men in various fields. This paper aims to discuss the history of feminists in fighting for gender equality both globally and in the development of gender discourse in Indonesia. In realizing gender equality, women empowerment programs need to be presented in unique, innovative, and creative way according to women’s needs. Gender and Da’wah Discourse in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Era can be realized in the form of da’wah for the women empowerment through education or training with community-based, so that women can carry out their roles proportionally and professionally. Da’wah for the women empowerment in the industrial revolution 4.0 era is expected to be able to invite, foster and guide women to develop their potential to be able to be productive, creative and financially independent without having to leave their roles as an individual, wife and mother. Da’wah for women empowerment as an effort to achieve gender equality need to pay attention to the segments and needs of each group of women being fostered, such as the community of young women, the community of housewives and the community of career women.

This article focuses on a possible permeability between feminist experience and evangelical Neo-Pentecostal experience. Through a focus group approach, we problematize the intersection between the pulsating gender pedagogy in prosperity theology and the lines of force of two feminist premises, which was resignified by a neoliberal rationality: gender equality and female empowerment. Therefore, we defend that the sayings of young evangelicals allow us to suggest the existence of a post-feminist heterotopia: spaces, certainly not full of neoliberal gender discourse ruptures, despite of that, still give rise to small cracks that from the very heart of normativity allow these evangelical young women to create other subjective possibilities for themselves.

The article discusses the evolving image of female characters in the Mad Max saga directed by George Miller, focusing on Furiosa’s rebellion in the last film—Mad Max: Fury Road. Interestingly, studying Miller’s post-apocalyptic action films, we can observe the evolution of this post-apocalyptic vision from the male-dominated world with civilization collapsing into chaotic violence visualized in the previous series to a more hopeful future created by women in the last part of the saga: Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). We observe female heroes: the vengeful Furiosa, the protector of oppressed girls and sex slaves, the women of the separatist clan, and the wives of the warlord, who bring down the tyranny and create a new “green place.” It is worth emphasizing that the plot casts female solidarity in the central heroic role. In fact, the Mad Max saga emerges as a piece of socially engaged cinema preoccupied with the cultural context of gender discourse. Noticeably, media commentators, scholars and activists have suggested that Fury Road is a feminist film.

This article explores Roman freedmen’s masculine positions expressed as virtues, qualities, and ideals in the recommendation letters of Cicero and Pliny the Younger. It discusses whether there were specific freedman virtues, qualities, and ideals and what consequences their existence or absence had for freedmen’s constructions of masculinity. A critical close reading of the texts is applied, combined with theories of masculinity, where hegemonic masculinity is a key concept. It is concluded that there were no virtues or qualities that were specific or exclusive to freedmen. A distinct set of virtues for freedmen did not exist in Late Republican and Early Imperial Rome, since much the same behaviour and qualities are seen as manly and desirable for freedmen as for freeborn male citizens of high birth. However, freedmen cannot comply with the hegemonic masculinity in full, since they cannot embody the Roman masculine ideal of the vir bonus and cannot be associated with the Roman cardinal virtue virtus, which was central in the construction of masculinity in the Roman world. This illustrates the complex Roman gender discourse and, on the whole, the social complexity of Roman society.

In recent years, Israel has witnessed two significant processes that challenge the dominant republican discourse that prioritizes military over national-civic service (known as The Israeli national-civilian service—NCS)in terms of contributing the constitution of citizenship and of the material and symbolic convertibility offered to service candidates. The first is related to the expanding range of roles offered in the NCS. The second, related process, which is our current focus, occurs among young religious women from the urban upper-middle class who respond to this expansion by seeking to serve in technological roles, given their high qualifications. Combined, these processes transform the status of the NCS and accelerate the de-monopolization of military service. To examine the contribution of religious young women to the change in the status of service in Israel, we conducted a narrative analysis of interviews with service candidates. Our analysis revealed their strategic use of four different discourses: the neo-liberal economic discourse, the liberal rights and self-realization discourse, the ethnonational discourse, and the religious gender discourse. The way the participants negotiated the four discourses to justify their selection of either military or national-civic service structured their agency as actors transforming the power equation between the two types of service.

Abstract Although Cecilie Løveid is one of Norway’s most important contemporary dramatists, she is not generally considered part of mainstream theater. In fact, she has positioned herself against it by her writing of feminist and performative theater texts since her debut in the 1980s. In her play Østerrike, which is inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s Brand and by Ludwig Wittgenstein’s diary of his stay in Norway, the audience is introduced to a love triangle. Ludwig, his fiancée Agnes and his former boyfriend David are entangeled in a queer love drama causing constant gender trouble. In this article, I will analyze how Løveid combines this gender discourse with a metatextual genre discourse. The play ends with a “beautiful scene”, which disrupts all existing categories of gender and genre. This scene in particular illustrates that Østerrike can be interpreted as a critical commentary on the Ibsen-tradition that determines Løveid’s outsider position.

The article is devoted to the study of gender realization in the English-language media discourse as a means of reflecting the changing trends in the concepts of femininity and masculinity. The study is carried out within the anthropocentric approach. The aim of this article is to highlight the theoretical frame of reference for the works included in this article. We intend to delimit the field of study for gender discourse analysis by highlighting the main theories and concepts that ensure its specificity. Interdisciplinary, which is the distinctive feature of gender discourse analysis, marks the evolution of research in this field that we are trying to capture in our proposed retrospective approach. The review of research that configures the domain of gender discourse analysis illustrates the latter relevance in deciphering the meaning of communication as an important qualitative research method in the field of communication sciences. On the other hand, the work identifies the specificity of gender representation in the language of contemporary gender-oriented magazines. The novelty of the paper is determined by the disclosure of the trends of new femininity and masculinity in media discourse. Additionally the media is commonly seen as a potential means of influence, control, and innovation in society. As a result, few significant social issues are addressed without some consideration of the role of the mass media. Gender issues are no exception, as illustrated by the following statement: The purpose of this article is to provide insights on the role of the media in status of men and women’s potential for socio-cultural change. The results show that the gender aspect in media discourse is manifested at the level of vocabulary, grammar and stylistics.

The paper highlights the problem of gender stereotypes and gender stratification and provides the description of constructionism and discourse analysis as the methodological foundations of gender studies. Gender is viewed as both a social construct and discursive practice. The author proposes a specific methodology for discourse analysis that takes into account the specifics of social media. The methods of research include analysis of linguistic data, processed through the lens of constructionist analysis, discourse and content analysis. The author grounds the study on M. Foucault’s approach that influenced discursive and constructionist studies. The features of the articulation of the topic are shown based on materials of the social network VKontakte. The author reveals the discursive techniques, with the help of which indicates the position and role of the subject. In social networks, unlike other media discourses, the problem of gender relations is expressed exaggeratedly. With the traditional spectrum of plots for stereotyping, the network newspeak is prone to use language play and genre fusion. Hence, the polar features of gender discourse in the network space should be noted: the coexistence of aggressive orthodox patriarchal judgments with sarcastic rethinking of gender roles and the manifestation of egalitarianism in the interpretation of masculinity and femininity. Gender discourse is represented as an element of ideological discourse that the author designates as modern newspeak, which is characterized by the ability to politicize any aspect of culture and strive for domination.

Eat Drink Man Woman, well-known as the last episode of “Father-Knows-Best” trilogy directed by Ang Lee, is attractive to numerous scholars following its nomination of Oscar. Through comparative studies, voluminous critics have devoted to the theme of globalization and cultural identity. However, few scholars notice that cultural identity as a sign of national image experiences a series of transformations. Therefore, this article mainly probes how the transformation of cultural identity changes the ideological component of national memory that contributes to nurturing the Chinese national identity. Father’ s image and daughters’ role are prominently represented in the film, particularly father’s psychological changes in some sense projecting the transformation of traditional ideology. Thus, combined with historic background this article will set about the transformation of father’s role and daughter’s image which predicate the deconstruction of traditional gender discourse, trying to figure out how does the transformed ideology expressed through the deconstruction of gender discourse contribute to the reconstruction of Chinese national identity.

This article reveals the features of the emergence of literature on feminism in the context of world literature, examines the problems posed by researches in this area and takes into account the scientific discussions of gender scientists. In addition, in the study of feminist literature various approaches, principles and concepts of Russian, English, and French and Uzbek scientists are being studied. The study cites the works of scientists who have identified the place of a number of phenomena in gender literature, such as "gender", "reception", "classical works", "conformity", and "receptive aesthetics". The study examines methods for analyzing materials of gender discourse in feminist literature, comments on the research directions of gender scientists and examines in detail various aspects of gender in the works.
