An important goal of learning analytics (LA) is to improve learning by providing students with meaningful feedback. Feedback is often generated by prediction models of student success using data about students and their learning processes based on digital traces of learning activities. However, early in the learning process, when feedback is most fruitful, trace-data-based prediction models often have limited information about the initial ability of students, making it difficult to produce accurate prediction and personalized feedback to individual students. Furthermore, feedback generated from trace data without appropriate consideration of learners’ dispositions might hamper effective interventions. By providing an example of the role of learning dispositions in an LA application directed at predictive modeling in an introductory mathematics and statistics module, we make a plea for applying dispositional learning analytics (DLA) to make LA precise and actionable. DLA combines learning data with learners’ disposition data measured through for example self-report surveys. The advantage of DLA is twofold: first, to improve the accuracy of early predictions; and second, to link LA predictions with meaningful learning interventions that focus on addressing less developed learning dispositions. Dispositions in our DLA example include students’ mindsets, operationalized as entity and incremental theories of intelligence, and corresponding effort beliefs. These dispositions were inputs for a cluster analysis generating different learning profiles. These profiles were compared for other dispositions and module performance. The finding of profile differences suggests that the inclusion of disposition data and mindset data, in particular, adds predictive power to LA applications.

Over the past decade, the field of education has seen stark changes in the way that data are collected and leveraged to support high-stakes decision-making. Utilizing big data as a meaningful lens to inform teaching and learning can increase academic success. Data-driven research has been conducted to understand student learning performance, such as predicting at-risk students at an early stage and recommending tailored interventions to support services. However, few studies in veterinary education have adopted Learning Analytics. This article examines the adoption of Learning Analytics by using the retrospective data from the first-year professional Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. The article gives detailed examples of predicting six courses from week 0 (i.e., before the classes started) to week 14 in the semester of Spring 2018. The weekly models for each course showed the change of prediction results as well as the comparison between the prediction results and students’ actual performance. From the prediction models, at-risk students were successfully identified at the early stage, which would help inform instructors to pay more attention to them at this point.

Contemporary education is a vast field that is concerned with the performance of education systems. In a formal e-learning context, student dropout is considered one of the main problems and has received much attention from the learning analytics research community, which has reported several approaches to the development of models for the early prediction of at-risk students. However, maximizing the results obtained by predictions is a considerable challenge. In this work, we developed a solution using only students’ interactions with the virtual learning environment and its derivative features for early predict at-risk students in a Brazilian distance technical high school course that is 103 weeks in duration. To maximize results, we developed an elitist genetic algorithm based on Darwin’s theory of natural selection for hyperparameter tuning. With the application of the proposed technique, we predicted the student at risk with an Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUROC) above 0.75 in the initial weeks of a course. The results demonstrate the viability of applying interaction count and derivative features to generate prediction models in contexts where access to demographic data is restricted. The application of a genetic algorithm to the tuning of hyperparameters classifiers can increase their performance in comparison with other techniques.

One of the important key applications of learning analytics is offering an opportunity to the institutions to track the student’s academic activities and provide them with real-time adaptive consultations if the student academic performance diverts towards the inadequate outcome. Still, numerous barriers exist while developing and implementing such kind of learning analytics applications. Machine learning algorithms emerge as useful tools to endorse learning analytics by building models capable of forecasting the final outcome of students based on their available attributes. The machine learning algorithm’s performance demotes with using the entire attributes and thus a vigilant selection of predicting attributes boosts the performance of the produced model. Though, several constructive techniques facilitate to identify the subset of productive attributes, however, the challenging task is to evaluate if the prediction attributes are meaningful, explicit, and controllable by the students. This paper reviews the existing literature to come up with the student’s attributes used in developing prediction models. We propose a conceptual framework which demonstrates the classification of attributes as either latent or dynamic. The latent attributes may appear significant but the student is not able to control these attribute, on the other hand, the student has command to restrain the dynamic attributes. Each of the major class is further categorized to present an opportunity to the researchers to pick constructive attributes for model development.

Usually elongated hospitalization is experienced byBurn patients, and the precise forecast of the placement of patientaccording to the healing acceleration has significant consequenceon healthcare supply administration. Substantial amount ofevidence suggest that sun light is essential to burns healing andcould be exceptionally beneficial for burned patients andworkforce in healthcare building. Satisfactory UV sunlight isfundamental for a calculated amount of burn to heal; this delicaterather complex matrix is achieved by applying patternclassification for the first time on the space syntax map of the floorplan and Browder chart of the burned patient. On the basis of thedata determined from this specific healthcare learning technique,nurse can decide the location of the patient on the floor plan, hencepatient safety first is the priority in the routine tasks by staff inhealthcare settings. Whereas insufficient UV light and vitamin Dcan retard healing process, hence this experiment focuses onmachine learning design in which pattern recognition andtechnology supports patient safety as our primary goal. In thisexperiment we lowered the adverse events from 2012- 2013, andnearly missed errors and prevented medical deaths up to 50%lower, as compared to the data of 2005- 2012 before this techniquewas incorporated.In this research paper, three distinctive phases of clinicalsituations are considered—primarily: admission, secondly: acute,and tertiary: post-treatment according to the burn pattern andhealing rate—and be validated by capable AI- origin forecastingtechniques to hypothesis placement prediction models for eachclinical stage with varying percentage of burn i.e. superficialwound, partial thickness or full thickness deep burn. Conclusivelywe proved that the depth of burn is directly proportionate to thedepth of patient’s placement in terms of window distance. Ourfindings support the hypothesis that the windowed wall is mosthealing wall, here fundamental suggestion is support vectormachines: which is most advantageous hyper plane for linearlydivisible patterns for the burns depth as well as the depth map isused.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) affects millions of US citizens. As the population ages, an increasing number of people with CAD are undergoing non-cardiac surgery and face significant peri-operative cardiac morbidity and mortality. Risk-prediction models can be used to help identify those patients at increased risk of peri-operative cardiovascular complications. Risk-reduction strategies utilising pharmacotherapy with beta blockade and statins have shown the most promise. Importantly, the benefit of prophylactic coronary revascularisation has not been demonstrated. The weight of evidence suggests reserving either percutaneous or surgical revascularisation in the pre-operative setting for those patients who would otherwise meet independent revascularisation criteria.
