AbstractWhere do new ideas come from and how are they generated? Which of these ideas will be potentially useful immediately, and which will be more ‘blue sky’? For the latter, their significance may not be known for a number of years, perhaps even generations. The progress of computing and digital media is a relevant and useful case study in this respect. Which visions of the future in the early days of computing have stood the test of time, and which have vanished without trace? Can this be used as guide for current and future areas of research and development? If one Internet year is equivalent to seven calendar years, are virtual worlds being utilized as an effective accelerator for these new ideas and their implementation and evaluation? The nature of digital media and its constituent parts such as electronic devices, sensors, images, audio, games, web pages, social media, e-books, and Internet of Things, provides a diverse environment which can be viewed as a testbed for current and future ideas. Individual disciplines utilise virtual worlds in different ways. As collaboration is often involved in such research environments, does the technology make these collaborations effective? Have the limits of disciplinary approaches been reached? The importance of interdisciplinary collaborations for the future is proposed and evaluated. The current enablers for progressing interdisciplinary collaborations are presented. The possibility for a new Renaissance between technology and the arts is discussed.

Activity diagrams are one of UML behavioural models suitable for system testing because it has the capacity to effectively describe the behaviours of systems under development. In this paper, a technique is proposed that generates test cases from activity diagrams by constructing an activity flow tree (AFT) which stores all the information extracted from the model file of the diagram through the help of a parser. Then, we applied an algorithm to generate test cases from the constructed tree. Test cases were generated based on the elements of activity diagrams such as activity sequences, associated descriptions and conditions. The proposed technique generated accurate test cases that completely tallied with the modeled requirements in the diagram. We utilized all-paths, basic pair paths, conditions, branches and transition criteria for generating test cases using ATM withdrawal operation software as a case study.

AbstrakEkstraksi  informasi  merupakan suatu bidang ilmu untuk pengolahan bahasa alami, dengan cara mengubah teks tidak terstruktur menjadi informasi dalam bentuk terstruktur. Berbagai jenis informasi di Internet ditransmisikan secara tidak terstruktur melalui website, menyebabkan munculnya kebutuhan akan suatu teknologi untuk menganalisa teks dan menemukan pengetahuan yang relevan dalam bentuk informasi terstruktur. Contoh informasi tidak terstruktur adalah informasi utama yang ada pada konten halaman web. Bermacam pendekatan untuk ekstraksi informasi telah dikembangkan oleh berbagai peneliti, baik menggunakan metode manual atau otomatis, namun masih perlu ditingkatkan kinerjanya terkait akurasi dan kecepatan ekstraksi. Pada penelitian ini diusulkan suatu penerapan pendekatan ekstraksi informasi dengan mengkombinasikan pendekatan bootstrapping dengan Ontology-based Information Extraction (OBIE). Pendekatan bootstrapping dengan menggunakan sedikit contoh data berlabel, digunakan untuk memimalkan keterlibatan manusia dalam proses ekstraksi informasi, sedangkan penggunakan panduan ontologi untuk mengekstraksi classes (kelas), properties dan instance digunakan untuk menyediakan konten semantik untuk web semantik. Pengkombinasian kedua pendekatan tersebut diharapkan dapat meningkatan kecepatan proses ekstraksi dan akurasi hasil ekstraksi. Studi kasus untuk penerapan sistem ekstraksi informasi menggunakan dataset “LonelyPlanet”. Kata kunci—Ekstraksi informasi, ontologi, bootstrapping, Ontology-Based Information Extraction, OBIE, kinerja Abstract Information extraction is a field study of natural language processing by converting unstructured text into structured information. Several types of information on the Internet is transmitted through unstructured information via websites, led to emergence of the need a technology to analyze text and found relevant knowledge into structured information. For example of unstructured information is existing main information on the content of web pages. Various approaches  for information extraction have been developed by many researchers, either using manual or automatic method, but still need to be improved performance related accuracy and speed of extraction. This research proposed an approach of information extraction that combines bootstrapping approach with Ontology-Based Information Extraction (OBIE). Bootstrapping approach using small seed of labelled data, is used to minimize human intervention on information extraction process, while the use of guide ontology for extracting classes, properties and instances, using for provide semantic content for semantic web. Combining both approaches expected to increase speed of extraction process and accuracy of extraction results. For the validation of vehicular Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS), engineers are currently required to analyze disperse information regarding technical requirements, standards and datasheets. Moreover, an enormous effort takes place to elaborate testing plans that are representative for most EDS possible configurations. These experiments are followed by laborious data analysis. To diminish this workload and the need for physical resources, this work reports a simulation platform that centralizes the tasks for testing different EDS configurations and assists the early detection of inadequacies in the design process. A specific procedure is provided to develop a software tool intended for this aim. Moreover, the described functionalities are exemplified considering as a case study the main wire harness from a commercial vehicle. A web-based architecture has been employed in alignment with the ongoing software development revolution and thus provides flexibility for both, developers and users. Due to its scalability, the proposed software scheme can be extended to other web-based simulation applications. Furthermore, the automatic generation of electrical layouts for EDS is addressed to favor an intuitive understanding of the network. To favor human–information interaction, utilized visual analytics strategies are also discussed. Finally, full simulation workflows are exposed to provide further insights on the deployment of this type of computer platforms.

Researchers have proposed various models for assessing design alternatives for process plant retrofits. Due to the considerable engineering effort involved, no such models exist for the great majority of brownfield process plants, which have been in operation for years or decades. This article proposes a semi-automatic methodology for generating a digital twin of a brownfield plant. The methodology consists of: (1) extracting information from piping and instrumentation diagrams, (2) converting the information to a graph format, (3) applying graph algorithms to preprocess the graph, (4) generating a simulation model from the graph, (5) performing manual expert editing of the generated model, (6) configuring the calculations done by simulation model elements and (7) parameterizing the simulation model according to recent process measurements in order to obtain a digital twin. Since previous work exists for steps (1–2), this article focuses on defining the methodology for (3–5) and demonstrating it on a laboratory process. A discussion is provided for (6–7). The result of the case study was that only few manual edits needed to be made to the automatically generated simulation model. The paper is concluded with an assessment of open issues and topics of further research for this 7-step methodology.

This chapter describes the application of MDA (model driven architecture) and UML for the modeling and specification of collaborative business processes, with the purpose of enabling enterprises to establish business-to-business collaborations. The proposed MDA approach provides the components and techniques required for the development of collaborative processes from their conceptual modeling to the specifications of these processes and the partners’ interfaces in a B2B standard. As part of this MDA approach, a UML profile is provided that extends the semantics of UML2 to support the analysis and design of collaborative processes. This UML profile is based on the use of interaction protocols to model collaborative processes. The application of this UML profile in a case study is presented. Also, an overview is provided about the automatic generation of B2B specifications from conceptual models of collaborative processes. In particular, the generation of B2B specifications based on ebXML is described.
