Abstract The culmination of long-term development of the traditional pilgrimage genre in Russian literature falls on the eighteenth century. Reports of Russian pilgrims to the Christian Holy Places of the Middle East produced during this period, not only precede the nineteenth century the Golden age of travel literature in Russia, but also retain their great historical and cultural significance and still remain a subject of research for scholars dwelling on the Arab-Ottoman history. The authors attention is focused on 12 pilgrims accounts written by Ivan Lukjanov (dates of travel: 17011703), Makariy and Seliverst (17041707), Andrey Ignatiev (17071708), Ippolit Vishenskiy (17071709), Varlaam (17121714), Matvey Nechaev (17211722), Sylvester and Nicodim (1722), Vasiliy Grigorowich-Barskiy (17231747), Serapion (17491751), Ignatiy Denshin (17661776), Leontiy (17631765) and Meletiy (17931794). The research focus of the article is on the personalities of the pilgrimagewriters, their biographical data and social background as well as the fates of their writings after their completion. Some of the pilgrims accounts received due credit long after they had been produced, others gained great popularity at the time of writing and some of them were almost forgotten and mostly neglected by scholars of the following generations. The article also deals with the religious affiliation of the pilgrimage-writers, which predetermined their perception of the Arab-Ottoman world through the prism of Russian Orthodoxy and the values preached by this particular brand of Christianity.

Some writers have said that academic freedom should extend to giving academics complete freedom over what they choose to research. I argue against this: it is consistent with academic freedom for universities to hire people to research particular subjects, and to make continued employment conditional on at least some of the academic’s research being in the areas they were hired to work in. In practice, many academics think that their fellow academics should be free to choose to work on anything that’s within the disciplinary boundaries of the department they were hired into. I argue that’s both too narrow and too broad. Academic freedom implies that researchers should be allowed to have their research focus drift over time. But the boundaries of permissible drift do not correspond to anything like the boundaries of contemporary academic departments.

AbstractPurpose: Some universal accessibility practitioners have voiced that they experience a mismatch in the research focus and the need for knowledge within specialized problem domains. This study thus set out to identify the balance of research into the main areas of accessibility, the impact of this research, and how the research profile varies over time and across geographical regions. Method: All UAIS papers indexed in Scopus were analysed using bibliometric methods. The WCAG taxonomy of accessibility was used for the analysis, namely perceivable, operable, and understandable. Results: The results confirm the expectation that research into visual impairment has received more attention than papers addressing operable and understandable. Although papers focussing on understandable made up the smallest group, papers in this group attracted more citations. Funded research attracted fewer citations than research without funding. The breakdown of research efforts appears consistent over time and across different geographical regions. Researchers in Europe and North America have been active throughout the last two decades, while Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Middle East became active in during the last five years. There is also seemingly a growing trend of out-of-scope papers. Conclusions: Based on the findings, several recommendations are proposed to the UAIS editorial board.

Wellbeing has been researched in relation to social, wellness, rural, backpacker, senior, wildlife, transformational or transformative tourism or studies exist specifically focusing on wellbeing tourism. Surprisingly enough, there is a void of research focus on wellbeing in cultural tourism, although culture has been considered as having a substantial impact on wellbeing. The research uses the case study of the Museum of Broken Relationships (MBR) in Zagreb, Croatia, under the assumption that MBR experiences have a relevant influence on tourists’ subjective wellbeing. Subjective wellbeing was measured after the visitation using the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWBS) and a majority of the respondents experienced moderate to high wellbeing. Furthermore, the research aimed to investigate whether or not there is any difference between cultural and non-cultural tourists’ subjective wellbeing noted after the visitation to the Museum. The results showed that there was no substantial difference between cultural and non-cultural tourists’ subjective wellbeing.
