The study is carried out in line with general problems of the history of state- church relations in the conditions of the Soviet totalitarian system. For a long time modern historiography did not pay proper attention to anti-religious politics in the USSR in 1939–1941, both at general and regional levels. Most scholars avoided themes related to repressive policy regarding worshipers in the years following the Great Terror, and some even noted the liberalization of the course of the Soviet leadership in the field of religion and church on the eve of the German-Soviet war, which began in June 1941. The purpose of the study is to highlight political repressions against the clergy and believers of various Christian denominations in Dnipropetrovsk region in 1939–1942. Research methods: problem-chronological, historical-genetic, historical-comparative, analysis, synthesis. The main results of the work. The process of preparation and further implementation of repressions of the clergy and active believers of various religious groups of Dnipropetrovsk region in 1939–1942 is highlighted. Dozens of convicted worshipers and “sectarians” are identified by name. Nature of accusations and peculiarities of imposed sentences are determined. The course of collective cases fabricated by the NKVD bodies against the Orthodox clergy is shown. Repressive measures of the authorities in the initial period of the German-Soviet war are analyzed. The continuity of the state anti-religious course and the use of terror until 1942 is proved. The originality of the work is in the use and analysis of numerous previously unknown archival documents which helped to disclose the formulated scientific problem. Practical value: despite the regional limitations of the study, the materials of the article are useful not only to local historians, but also to church historians for further development of the problems in the outlined chronological framework. Type of article: analytical.

The purpose – perfection of the techniques for controlling speed-strength capabilities and endurance of the rotator cuff muscles of biathletes during the period of sport skills perfection. Research methods and organization. The study involved 204 biathletes aged 15-17. We tested the speed- strength abilities and endurance of rotator cuff muscles with the Skierg Concept2 ski ergometer (USA). Research results. Significant changes in the endurance of rotator cuff muscles of biathletes occur in the age period from 15 to 16 years. The change in speed-strength abilities of female biathletes, in contrast to male biathletes, occurs against the background of an increase in the number of ski pole movements per minute. We processed the obtained data using the method of determining the boundaries of confidence intervals. Based on the data processed, we developed the standards for assessment of the speed-strength abilities and strength endurance of rotator cuff muscles of biathletes during the period of sport skills perfection with the Skierg Concept2 ski ergometer (USA). We tested applicability of the developed standards for speed-strength abilities and strength endurance of rotator cuff muscles in a one-year educational experiment. Conclusion. We proposed a methodology for testing speed-strength abilities and strength endurance of rotator cuff muscles with the Skierg Concept2 ski ergometer (USA) in the framework of our study. The developed stand- ards for assessing speed-strength abilities and strength endurance of rotator cuff muscles of biathletes during the period of sport skills perfection help to identify strong and weak points of fitness and to predict the possibility of achieving certain results by individual parameters.

The Russo-Georgia war in 2008 and the conflict in Ukraine in 2014 galvanized the countries, which are namely squeezed between NATO and Russia into considering their strategies again. The paper examines Russia’s efforts to maintain its influence in its “near abroad” in the face of NATO’s enlargement. It principally focuses on identifying the challenges particular countries face as obstacles to NATO accession. The arguments raised in the paper prove that, the primary reasons of Russia-Georgia War and Ukraine conflict are associated with these countries’ NATO aspiration. An argument regarding the Alliance’s reluctance to actively engage in partner nations is also presented. The objective of the study is to consider the repercussions of NATO aspiration and introduce the real prospects of cooperation with NATO. The research methods primarily used in the book are comparative analysis and synthesis.

Qualitative research methods have long set an example of rich description, in which data and researchers’ hermeneutics work together to inform readers of findings in specific contexts. Among published works, insight into the analytical process is most often represented in the form of methodological propositions or research results. This paper presents a third type of qualitative report, one in which the researcher’s process of coding, finding themes, and arriving at findings is the focus. Grounded theory analysis methods were applied to the interpretation of a single interview. The resulting document provides a narrative of the process one researcher followed when attempting to apply recommended methodological procedures to a single interview, providing a peek inside the black box of analysis often left unopened in final reports.
