<p>The purpose of this study is to investigate Emotional Intelligence and its relationship with<br />achievement and quality of life among Al Yarmouk university students. The sample of the<br />study consisted of (300) students enrolling in the university during the first semester in the<br />academic year 2014/2015. The researcher used the quality of life scale and the emotional<br />intelligence scale of Daniel Golman; the researcher modified the items of Daniel Golman<br />scale for emotional intelligence to suit the Jordanian environment. The study results showed<br />that there were statistically significant correlation between the emotional intelligence, and<br />quality of life and academic achievement, the study results also showed that there were<br />statistically significant correlation between the quality of life and academic achievement.<br />Furthermore, there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the<br />high academic achievement and low academic achievement groups in emotional intelligence<br />in favor of the high academic achievement and there were statistically significant differences<br />between the scores means of the high academic achievement and low academic achievement<br />in quality of life in favor of the high academic achievement groups.</p>

(1) Background: Academic engagement has been reported in the literature as an important factor in the academic achievement of university students. Other factors such as emotional intelligence (EI) and resilience have also been related to students’ performance and quality of life. The present study has two clearly delimited and interrelated objectives. First, to study the mediational role that engagement plays in the relationship between EI and resilience on quality of life. Secondly, and similarly, to study the mediational role of engagement in the relationship between EI and resilience, but in this case on academic achievement. (2) Methods: For this purpose, four scales frequently used in the literature to measure emotional intelligence, resilience, academic engagement and quality of life were administered to 427 students of the University of Jaén undertaking education degrees. In addition, students were asked to indicate their current average mark as a measure of academic performance. Two mediational models based on structural equations were proposed to analyse the relationships between the proposed variables. (3) Results: The results obtained showed that emotional intelligence and resilience directly predicted students’ life satisfaction, but this direct relationship did not result in academic performance. In addition, and assuming a finding not found so far, engagement was shown to exert an indirect mediational role for both life satisfaction and academic performance of students. (4) Conclusions: The findings of the study support the importance of engagement in the design and development of instructional processes, as well as in the implementation of any initiative.

Background: Epilepsy can have a huge impact on children's quality of life and participation and attainment at school, particularly if the condition is poorly managed. Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of education about disease and drug management given to children, their family and teachers on the academic success and quality of life of the child. Design: The study was a single group, pre-test, post-test, semi-experimental research study. Methods: The study was carried out in the paediatric neurology outpatient clinic of the Tepecik Education and Research Hospital in Turkey. The study sample comprised 65 people (25 patients, 25 parents and 15 teachers) who completed the pre-test and post-test assessments. The Sociodemographic Characteristics Questionnaire, the Quality of Life Scale in Children with Epilepsy and an academic achievement form were completed before the epilepsy education was given. Parents and children had training at the hospital. The teachers had telephone training. Some 3 months after the training, the scores for the Quality of Life Scale in Children with Epilepsy and the academic achievement form were reassessed. Findings: The comparison of the pre- and post-training Quality of Life scale scores of the children (p=0.000) and academic achievement scores of the children (p=0.017; n=15) demonstrated a significant increase. There was a significant difference between the quality of life scores of the participating children who received special education and those of the children who did not receive special education (p=0.007 and p=0.004, respectively). Conclusions: The results of the present study suggest that providing training on epilepsy, not only for children but also for their families and teachers, would be beneficial.

University students are exposed to many stressors, necessitating opportunities for restoration. Research has indicated that actual experiences in nearby green spaces are associated with restorative psychological and physiological health benefits. However, the perception of greenness and restorativeness of environments might also impact health outcomes. Can green campus spaces provide restorative potential to university students? Do students perceive the greenness and restorative benefits? To explore these questions, students at three universities (convenience sample) were surveyed with items on perceived greenness of campus, perceived restorativeness of campus, and the World Health Organization Quality-of-Life Scale. Results indicate that those with higher perceived campus greenness report greater quality of life, a pathway significantly and partially mediated by perceived campus restorativeness. Future research should help identify effective ways in which university green spaces can be developed as health resources for students.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between quality of life and eating attitudes of adolescents. Thisstudy was designed as a correlational study. Participants were 640 voluntarily participating 15-18 years old studentsstudying at public high schools in Samsun, Turkey. Data was collected with the Quality of Life Scale for Childrenand Eating Attitudes Test. In the data analysis process, descriptive analysis and pearson correlation analysis for therelationship between life quality and eating attitudes were used. Simple linear regression analysis was also employedto see whether life quality predicts eating attitude scores. According to the study findings, there was a negative andstatistically weak relationship between life quality and eating attitudes. Also, it was revealed that adolescents’ qualityof life scores predicted their eating attitude scores. The study results were discussed with previous literature.

Abstract Introduction : Due to often excessive academic activities, some university students are affected by stress, anxiety and depression, which can negatively influence quality of life. The classical massage was tested as a strategy for improving quality of life, since it presents psychogenic effects that contribute to this. Objective : To evaluate the effects of classical massage on quality of life, in stress, anxiety, depression and cardiorespiratory variables of university students. Methods : The sample consisted of an intervention group and a control group. While the intervention group (n = 10) received ten massage sessions, twice a week, for 30 minutes in the region of the cervical and thoracic spine, the control group (n = 12) received no intervention. For evaluating psychological variables, the Quality of Life Scale, the Lipp Inventory of Stress Symptoms for Adults, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were used. To assess cardiorespiratory variables, blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate were measured. Results : There was a significant improvement in quality of life and significant decrease in cardiorespiratory variables. Conclusion : The classic massage can be a strategy for the improvement of quality of life in university students who present symptoms of stress, anxiety, elevation of blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate.

Background: Quality of life is a subject of research by representatives of various fields of science, including psychology, sociology, economics, and medicine. The results of some previous studies show that the quality of life of elderly people is related to their health behaviors. The aim of the study was to assess the relationships between the quality of life, considered in general and in detail, and health behaviors of healthy and ill elderly people from the Opolskie Voivodeship (Poland). Methods: 105 people (81 women and 24 men) participated in the study, including 61 patients and 44 healthy people, aged from 60 to 89 years. The average age of respondents was 71.2 ± 6.4 years. The main research method was the diagnostic questionnaire survey. The Health Behavior Inventory and R. Cummins’s Comprehensive Quality of Life Scale were used. Results: The study results showed that the average value of the health behavior index in healthy respondents was significantly higher than in patients. The analysis of particular categories of health behaviors revealed that healthy persons declared normal eating habits more often than patients. The mean value of the general quality of life index was significantly higher in healthy respondents than in patients. Health status also significantly differentiated the quality of life in favor of healthy individuals in the domains of health and intimacy. In the analyzed group of respondents, health behaviors significantly determined the quality of life of patients only. The odds that the quality of life of patients are above average were greater in patients with average and higher health behavior indices than in patients with low health behavior indices. Conclusion: Measures of quality of life improvement should also be aimed at increasing the prevalence of health behaviors in the elderly.

The study aims to try to identify the nature of the quality of life of kidney failure patients undergoing dialysis in the light of some demographic variables (gender, age, educational level, marital status, and starting date of hemodialysis). The research sample consisted of 70 dialysis patients (32 males - 38 females) who frequently go to the dialysis unit department (attia al-Kaseh Hospital in Kufra city). The WHO quality of life scale was used (the short picture). The study results revealled that the quality of life for patients with renal failure who are subject to dialysis is low. The results also showed that the physical field is considered one of the lowest fields, and a statistically significant effect was found for each age, gender, and educational level on patients' quality of physical life.

The aim of this study is to examine university students’ quality of life and perceptions of exercise benefits and barriers according to the variables of department, class, family income, mother’s education and father’s education status. The research was designed in relational screening model. In this context, a total of 162 female university students studying at Gazi University Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Coaching, Sports Management and Recreation voluntarily participated in the study. As data collection tools in the research; Personal Information Form, Exercise Benefit/ Barriers Scale and Quality of Life Scale prepared by the researchers were used.In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation test were used. When the findings obtained within the scope of the research were examined, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the participants’ quality of life and exercise awareness levels and demographic variables within the groups. However, when the relationship between the participants’ quality of life and exercise awareness levels was examined, it was determined that there was a positive and significant relationship between quality of life and exercise benefit.
