The poor performance of candidates in external examination between 2014 and 2018 could be an indication of low productivity of teachers. The research study examined the influence of working conditions and salary on teachers’ productivity in government owned secondary schools in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The descriptive research of the survey type was employed for the research study. The population for this research study was seven government-owned secondary schools while the sample was four government-owned secondary schools. The research study found out the relationship between working conditions and teachers’ productivity; salary and teachers’ productivity in government-owned secondary schools in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. Validated instruments tagged, “Working Conditions and Salary Questionnaire” (WCSQ) and “Teachers’ Productivity Questionnaire” (TPQ) were used to collect data from sample of 80 respondents. Simple random sampling technique was used to select four secondary schools while, proportional sampling technique was used to select 80 teachers. The research study revealed that there was significant relationship between working conditions and teachers’ productivity; salary and teachers’ productivity. This research study has shown that working conditions and salary had influence on teachers’ productivity.

The study was carried out to analyzed rice production and poverty reduction in Agatu local government area of Benue state, Nigeria. To this end, a multi-stage sampling technique was used. The first stage involved the purposive selection of five wards noted for high production of rice. Secondly, a simple random sampling was used to select twenty five respondents each from the five wards to sum up to one hundred and twenty five respondents used for the study. The analytical tools employed included simple descriptive statistics like mean, frequency distribution, percentages and tables and inferential statistics like logit regression model. The data used were from primary source and this was collected by administering of structured questionnaires to illicit information from the farmers. The results of the analysis revealed farmers to be in their active age, mostly married, males’ dominance, highly experienced and educated with large families. Annual income from rice production was significant in reducing poverty in the study area pseudo R2 value of 0.886. The overall Chi-Square value was significant at 1% level of probability, also log likelihood value of 135.27. The study recommends the need for credit to be extended to poor farmers to help stimulate their investment in order to increase their income.  Farmers are also encouraged to engage in non-farm activities to raise their level of income.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between leadership style of head teachers and pupils’ performance in Webuye West Sub County. The study adopted descriptive research design to establish the relationship between study variables. It covered 65 primary schools with a total population of 1000 teachers. In order to consider the three educational zones in the area, Krejcie and Morgan table was used to select a sample of 56 out of 65 primary schools. All the head teachers in the selected schools were part of the study sample. Further, simple random sampling technique was used to select 5 teachers from each school for the study sample, giving a total of 280 teachers. Therefore, the study sample was 336 respondents. Tools used in data collection were questionnaires for head teachers and teachers. To test reliability, test-retest method was used where a Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) value of 0.876 was found. Chi-square was used to determine the relationship between each independent variable and the dependent variable. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between performance of pupils and head teacher’s leadership skills.

Teaching and learning are dynamic activities that are predicated on a number of factors. The pedagogical strategy used determines the effectiveness of the teacher and students’ academic performance. This study was therefore on the effect of blended instructional strategy on Commerce students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State-Nigeria. Three research questions and three null hypotheses were raised to direct the study. The study adopted the pretest- postest non randomized quasi experimental design. Diffusion of Innovative theory and the Material-First-Rationale-Model were used to develop Commerce Instructional Package for experimentation. Two schools out of the 13 secondary schools in Uyo Local Government Area met the requirement for selection and were used for the study. The sample size of 240 students in both the urban and rural schools were selected and used for the study using the simple random sampling technique. An instructional package on Commerce was developed and used in treating the experimental groups while the control groups were taught using the expository teaching strategy. Both the control and the experimental groups were pretested before treatment. Commerce Performance Test was used to examine the effect of the package and the difference in students’ performance. All the students in both control and the experimental groups were post-tested. Their scripts were marked and their scores used for analysis with the help of mean and Analysis of Co-variance. Results of the analysis showed a significant difference in academic performance of Commerce students taught with blended instructional strategy and those taught with expository method. There was also a significant difference in academic performance of male and female students as well as those students in urban and rural school location. Based on these results, the following recommendations were made to improve the teaching of Commerce and academic performance of students namely that blended instruction should be adopted in teaching Commerce and that in-service training, seminars and workshops should be organised by Government and other stake holders in Education to update the knowledge of teachers in the use of ICTs and web-based instructional strategies among other recommendations.

The study was designed to investigate the involvement of the rural dwellers in livestock farming as a means of livelihood in Afijio Local Government area of Oyo State. Data were collected with the aid of well constructed questionnaire distributed to respondents selected using a multistage sampling technique. Data collected were subjected to descriptive analysis; Chi-square was used to determine the relationship between socio-economic factors and their level of involvement in livestock farming as a means of livelihood. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to examine the relationship between constraints and benefits of livestock farming to the livelihood of the respondents. The result of the study shows that majority of the respondents (59.8%) were male, Married (63.2%) with minimal of primary school education (35.9%). The analysis of the data reveals that most of the respondents in the study area are involved in livestock farming (60.7%) and mixed farming (85.5%) in most of the time. On the types of livestock, majority of them are into goat and poultry production. This study concludes that most of the respondents in the study area are already into livestock farming but at backyard small holder levels. It is therefore recommended that the rural dwellers should improved in their level of involvement in livestock farming through education and provision of necessary input by the concerned stakeholders.

The study assessed the centrifugal cause of poverty in Obudu, Cross River State, Nigeria. Utilising the survey research method, data was collected from 417 participants from Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria using cluster, purposive and simple random sampling technique. A semi-structured self-developed questionnaire was used for data collection. Collected data were analysed using simple percentages, graphs, frequency distribution and simple lineal regression at 0.05 confidence level. The result from the analysed data revealed that a correlation exists between family size correlates with household poverty from the descriptive analysis. It was discovered that 84.75 per cent of the participants could not afford to take care of their family because of family composition. Results also revealed that family income significantly correlates within household poverty. The descriptive statistics revealed that 96 per cent of the participants could hardly afford three square meal. The study concludes that family income and size significantly determine household poverty in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. There is a need for policy change by the government towards poverty alleviation programs and financial inclusion of people of Obudu.

ABSTRACTAccording to UNICEF, in 2013 there were 136,700,000 live births, but only about 32.6% of these babies received breast milk exclusively. In developing countries, only about 39% of mothers breastfeed exclusively. Indonesia has targetted for 80% exclusive breastfeeding. However, it has not been achieved. A large number of women in the workforce and the unavailability of breastfeeding facilities are among the factors influencing the low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia. In addition, maternal knowledge is also a contributing factor for exclusive breastfeeding practices This study aims to analyze the relationship between the availability of lactation facilities and maternal knowledge with exclusive breastfeeding. The execution of this research was conducted quantitatively with the descriptive research type. The design of this study is case-control. The study’s population were female factory workers who had babies in Sidoarjo District. The sample size is 42 case samples and 42 control samples. The research sample was taken using a simple random sampling technique. The data was retrieved through survey methods with questionnaires. The results of the study show that there is no relationship between knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.200) and there is a relationship between the availability of lactation facilities and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.049). Mothers who work in factories with lactation facilities have a 2.667 times greater opportunity to give exclusive breastfeeding to their babies than mothers without access to lactation facilities (OR = 2.667). The researchers suggest factories to provide lactation facilities and visitation activities by the local health office.Keywords: Exclusive breastfeeding, Lactation facilities, Mother's knowledge

Introduction: One in 10 children would be sexually abused before their 18th birthday; about one in seven girls and one in 25 boys would be sexually abused before they turn 18. The statistics continues to increase even as low and middle-income nations of the world are gradually coming out to report cases of child sexual abuse. Aim: This study aimed to assess the knowledge and perceived effect of sexual abuse among adolescents attending selected secondary schools in Mushin Local Government. Methods: 414 respondents from selected secondary schools in Mushin Local Government participated in the study using the multistage random sampling technique. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 26 and bivariate analysis was conducted using Chi-square test. Results: More than half of the adolescents fall within the age range of 15–17 years and majority were females. In addition to this, just a little above half of the participants were Christians and just below half of the students were in SSS 2. Also, more than half of the participants were Yorubas and well above half were from a nuclear family. Just about half of the adolescents have good knowledge about sexual abuse. In the measures of association, the relationship between the level of knowledge of sexual abuse and the perceived effect of sexual abuse was statistically significant. The relationship between adolescents’ perception of the effect of sexual abuse and their concept of the common forms of sexual abuse was also statistically significant. Conclusion: This study revealed that the adolescents under study had knowledge about sexual abuse and this knowledge determined their perception of the effect of sexual abuse, and this in turn determines what they consider as child sexual abuse. It is therefore necessary to intensify efforts on educating and re-educating children and adolescents on sexual abuse, how to identify it and how to prevent it through campaigns and health promotional activities.

This research was conducted to analyze the influence of HR competence and organizational climate on work motivation, the influence of HR competence, organizational climate, and work motivation on job satisfaction, and work motivation as a mediation for the influence of HR competence and organizational climate on job satisfaction. Descriptive research method with a quantitative approach to causality was used. Simple random sampling technique and Slovin formula were used to determine the number of respondents and obtained 167 respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale. The path analysis method and the Sobel test with the help of SPSS software were used to test the hypothesis. The results of this study indicate that human resource competence and organizational climate have a positive and significant effect on work motivation. Organizational climate and work motivation have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, while HR competencies do not have a significant effect on job satisfaction. Then work motivation can mediate the relationship between HR competencies on job satisfaction and the relationship between organizational climate and job satisfaction.

The study explored parents, teachers, and students’ beliefs about the use and study of mother tongue (MT) in selected secondary schools in Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted. Twelve public senior secondary schools were randomly selected. Purposive sampling technique was used to select at least 15 literate parents, 12 teachers from different subject areas, and 20 students from each school. Overall, 211 literate parents, 195 teachers and 237 SSII students participated. Three instruments used were: Parents’ Questionnaire (r=0.87), Teachers’ Questionnaire (r=0.90) and Students’ Questionnaire (r=0.87). Data were analysed using frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Results show that parents, teachers and students have strong beliefs that using the MT to teach will facilitate the learning of English and other subjects and enhance participation in lessons. They also believe that studying the MT as a school subject would promote students’ sense of identity and positive attitude towards the Nigerian culture. Students believe that the MT remains the best language to learn with. The study has shown that the participants have strong beliefs about the pedagogical and sociocultural relevance of the MT in education. There is a positive indication that the main stakeholders (parents, teachers and students) are ready to embrace the study of MT as a subject in the secondary school. It is therefore recommended that the governments should endeavour to invest in the development of the orthographies of the Nigerian languages to make them usable in education.

AbstractTeenage motherhood is a worldwide problem with 36.4 million girls giving birth before the age of 18 years in developing world. The present study investigated the relationship between attitude towards guidance and counseling programme and adjustment of re-admitted teenage mothers in selected Kenyan secondary schools. The study employed Ex-post facto Research Design. The target population of the study was 242 readmitted teenage mothers from selected schools in Ugenya Sub County. The sample size comprised 138 readmitted teenage mothers who are integrated back to school after going through the bridge center programmes and 104 readmitted teenage mothers who are integrated back to school without going through the bridge center programmes using Simple random sampling technique. The study used questionnaires for readmitted teenage mothers to collect data. Experts from the Department of Psychology and Educational Foundation in Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology ascertained the face, construct and content validity of the readmitted teenage mothers’ questionnaires. In this study internal consistency reliability of the instruments was obtained by computing Cronbach’s alpha (α) using SPSS and a co-efficient of r= 0.783 was reported. The data from questionnaires was analyzed using inferential statistics such as Pearson correlation, and Regression analysis. The findings indicated that the relationship between readmitted teenage mothers attitude towards Guidance and Counselling and adjustment was positive moderate and significant (r = .550, n=166, p<.05). The study recommended that School principals should be entrusted to provide comprehensive programs to ensure holistic adjustment of the teenage mothers in schools.
