Hotel employees are constantly working in an increasingly stressful work environment. As hotel employees working in a demanding working environment, they may eventually face job burnout dimensions (emotional exhaustion, cynicism, reduced professional efficacy) due to the day-to-day operations which lead to burnout phenomenon. Despite the limited study investigating burnout dimensions particularly revealing the research finding in the non-western context which may have adverse effects on their relationship with their job engagement phenomena. The study aims to explore the correlation between job burnout dimensions and job engagement dimensions among hotel employees in Sarawak, Malaysia. In more specified, each of the burnout dimensions will be tested on its significant relationship with job engagement dimensions (vigour, dedication, absorption). Cross-sectional research design with a total of 201 valid responses were obtained which involved descriptive and inferential statistic with high reliability scoring while exploratory factor analysis values met the benchmark. This study can be utilized by the hotel industry to develop effective strategies to minimize job burnout of each dimension while enhancing job engagement among the hotel employees in Sarawak.

We examined the relationships among psychological empowerment, emotional labor strategies, and job burnout of frontline hotel employees with reference to conservation of resources theory and the job demands–resources model. A sample of 414 employees from a Chinese chain hotel was recruited to take part in this study. There was a significant negative correlation between psychological empowerment and job burnout for these frontline hotel employees. Furthermore, the emotional labor strategies of deep acting and automatic regulation played partial mediating roles in the relationship between psychological empowerment and job burnout, which has implications for the development of intervention mechanisms and work practices for addressing burnout.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between perceptions of learning climate and employee innovative behavior and proficiency. Design/methodology/approach Using robust analysis techniques on data from a sample of 419 employees and their supervisors from four different business and public sector organizations, the author tested the proposed relationships, as mediated by job engagement. Moreover, this mediation effect was examined in the light of sector of employment differences (business vs public). Findings The results were generally consistent with the hypothesized conceptual scheme, in that the indirect relationship between perceptions of learning climate and employees’ innovative behavior and proficiency was mediated by job engagement. However, with regard to sector employment differences, this mediation process was demonstrated among business sector employees only to the relationship between perceptions of learning climate and innovative behavior. When proficiency was included in the mediation model, this mediation effect was evident among public sector employees. Originality/value The research on perceptions of learning climate lacks empirical evidence on its implications for employees’ innovative behavior and proficiency. Although scholars contend that employees’ perceptions of learning climate should enhance their in-role and extra-role performance behaviors, these arguments are mainly non-empirical. Understanding whether perceptions of learning have an impact on employee intra- and extra-role performance behaviors is important, considering that the majority of workplace learning occurs through daily ongoing means that are part of the working environment and previous research results show that structured learning and formal training are less effective in improving employees’ performance at work.

Purpose This research aims to test employee loyalty in the hotel industry, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study examines the relationship between leader support in building job satisfaction, trust and employee loyalty. Also, this research aims to test and explain the role of satisfaction and trust as mediator variables. Design/methodology/approach This research used a quantitative design by distributing questionnaires to 206 employees of the 97 hotels in Bali, Indonesia, particularly during pandemic Covid-19. The research data were then analyzed by using WarpPLS software. Findings The results revealed that leader support did not have a significant effect on loyalty. Satisfaction and trust act as double mediators in leaders’ support and loyalty relationships. Research limitations/implications Employees need leaders’ support to remain loyal to their organization in a slowdown situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its various challenges. Originality/value Research on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on various sectors has been comprehensive. However, the research that invests in employee loyalty in the hospitality industry is still rare. This study analyzes the loyalty of hotel employees, particularly when the tourism sector is experiencing a slowdown. This study also examines the role of trust and satisfaction as mediating relationships between leaders’ support and loyalty, which have not been widely analyzed in previous studies.

Purpose To fill the previous research gap, focusing on two constructs, i.e. perceived supervisor support (PSS) and psychological capital (PsyCap), this study aims to explore the mechanism underlying the relationship between teaching–research conflict (TRC) and job burnout among university teachers using the lens of job demands–resources (JD-R) model. Design/methodology/approach First, theoretically grounded hypotheses linking teaching–research conflict, PSS and PsyCap to job burnout were formulated. Then, a cross-sectional design was used to test the theoretical model presented in this study. Findings The results showed that TRC was positively linked to emotional exhaustion (EE) and depersonalization (DP), but negatively linked to personal accomplishment; PSS moderated the effect of TRC on both EE and DP but did not act as a moderator in the relationship between TRC and personal accomplishment; and PsyCap moderated the effect of TRC on all the three dimensions of job burnout. Research limitations/implications Given that the data were collected from single-source, the study was vulnerable to the common method variance. Besides, the relative small sample size limits the representativeness of the sample. Moreover, the cross-sectional design cannot confirm causal relationship between variables. Despite these limitations, the findings of this research can potentially inform effective interventions aimed at reducing the effect of TRC on job burnout among university teachers. Originality/value Based on the JD-R model, PSS and PsyCap are used to explore the effect of TRC on job burnout for the first time.

ObjectivesThis study had three objectives: (1) describe the prevalence of occupational exposure among Chinese medical personnel in detail, (2) verify the partial mediating role of work environment satisfaction in the relationship between occupational exposure and job satisfaction, and (3) examine if stress symptoms moderate the relationship between occupational exposure and job satisfaction.DesignA large cross-sectional online survey was conducted in July 2018 in China.SettingA survey was conducted in 54 cities across 14 provinces of China.ParticipantsA total of 12 784 questionnaires were distributed, and 9924 healthcare workers (HCWs) completed valid questionnaires. The response rate was 77.63%.Outcome measuresA confidential questionnaire was distributed to HCWs. The relationships among and the mechanisms of the variables were explored using descriptive statistical analyses, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis.ResultsThe most common occupational exposures among HCWs in the past 12 months were psychosocial and organisational hazards (85.93%). Overall, physicians (93.7%) and nurses (89.2%) were the main victims of occupational exposure. Occupational exposure correlated negatively with work environment satisfaction and job satisfaction, and positively with stress symptoms. Moreover, work environment satisfaction fully mediated the relationship between occupational exposure and job satisfaction, and stress symptoms moderated the relationship between occupational exposure and job satisfaction.ConclusionThe incidence of occupational exposure among HCWs is generally high. The high frequency of psychosocial and organisational hazards among physicians and nurses should be taken seriously and dealt with in a timely manner by hospital managers. The negative impact of occupational exposure on job satisfaction must be buffered by measures to reduce stress symptoms and enhance working environment satisfaction, ultimately improving the overall quality of life of HCWs and promoting comprehensive development of the medical team.

Background: It is stated that high ethical sensitivity positively affects the quality of nursing care. However, the relationship between nursing care quality and ethical sensitivity has not been clearly demonstrated in researches. Aim: This study was carried out to determine the relationship between surgical nurses’ care behaviors and their ethical sensitivity. Method: The sample of this cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study consists of 308 nurses who worked at the surgical departments in four Turkish hospitals. The data were collected using the “Nurse Description Form” developed by the researcher, “Caring Behaviours Inventory-24” and “Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire.” Data were evaluated by the Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis one-way analysis of variance and Spearman correlation analysis. Ethical considerations: The study was approved by the ethics committee. Verbal and written consent was received from the nurses. Results: It was found in the study that nurses’ Caring Behaviours Inventory-24 total score median was 5.25 (4.83–5.58), nurses’ perception level of caring quality was high, median of Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire total score was 89.00 (75.00–101.00) and nurses’ ethical sensitivity was moderate. A negative significant relation was found between nurses’ Caring Behaviours Inventory-24 total score and Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire total score (r = -0.162; p = 0.009). A negative relation was also detected between nurses’ working period at the current clinic and providing benefit (r = -0.147; p = 0.012), holistic approach (r = -0.139; p = 0.018) and orientation (r = -0.175; p = 0.003) scores of Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire sub-scales. Conclusion: Nurses’ perception levels of caring quality were high and their ethical sensitivity levels were moderate. It was found out that nurses’ ethical sensitivity increased together with their perception of caring quality, and as their working period at the current clinic increased, the ethical sensitivity also increased in terms of the sub-scales of providing benefit, holistic approach, and orientation. The factors that adversely affect the quality of nursing care and ethical sensitivity should be examined and attempts should be made to improve the working environment.

Abstract Background: Research shows that physicians often report job burnout and have a high level of presenteeism, but few studies concerns the relationship between job burnout and presenteeism. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between physicians’ presenteeism and three dimensions of job burnout in China, and to identify aspects that can help alleviate presenteeism. Methods: A cross-sectional survey involving physicians in second-and third-class medical institutions was conducted in the interior of China. Using a single presenteeism questionnaire and a 15-item Chinese version of the BMI-GS questionnaire, this study investigated prevalence of physicians' presenteeism behavior and job burnout in three dimensions, and determined the relationship between presenteeism and job burnout by logistical model. Results: Relationships between presenteeism and three dimensions of job burnout were explored, and the influence of demography and work factors were evaluated. The survey was completed by 1376/1547 hospital doctors, with a response rate of 88.9%. 30.7%(n=422) of the subjects reported having presenteeism behavior. Using MBI-GS, 86.8%(n=1195) of physicians were moderately burnout and 6.0%(n=82) were severely job burnout. Logistic regression analysis showed that physicians with moderate, severe emotional exhaustion and severe cynicism were more likely to engage in presenteeism (all p < 0.05). In addition, two other work-related factors, including the physician's department and position, were also more likely to influence their presenteeism (all p < 0.05). Conclusions: At present, there is quite presenteeism among physicians in the second-and third-class medical institutions in China, which is significantly related to emotional exhaustion and cynicism. Considering the modifiable job-related factors, health care institutions must take appropriate measures to relieve physicians' job burnout, help them adjust their self-awareness properly, and ensure occupational mental health to alleviate the prevalence of presenteeism. Stress is an adaptive response to a situation that is perceived to challenge or threaten a person's health. Work stress in nurses is one of the problems in the management of human resources at the hospital. This study aims to determine the relationship between job stress with job burnout in nurses Regional General Hospital (Hospital) Deli Serdang Lubukpakam. The method used in this study using a type of analytical research with cross sectional design. Gamma test results between job stress with job burnout in nurses obtained significant values (p) obtained was 0,016. To view the results of significant statistical calculations used the limit of significance α = 0.05. Based on the above values indicate significant p value <0.05 which means that the hypothesis there is a relationship between job stress and fatigue in nurses working at the General Hospital (Hospital) Deli Serdang Lubukpakam accepted. There was a significant relationship between work stress fatigue. The need for provision of extension or improvement of knowledge about the factors that can lead to work stress, work fatigue and how to treat the condition.
