This thesis was purposely made to identify error analysis of Indonesian – English translation of news item text translation made by English Department students of FKIP Nommensen University. The result of this research was there were 4 translation errors made by the students in their Indonesian – English news item translation by considering the cohesive devices. The translation errors were in repetition device, conjunction device, reference device, and synonymy device. This result showed that the dominant translation error was dominated by the repetition translation error and synonymy translation error. The result of this research proved that the students had problems in translating.

<p>This research aimed to identify types of translation errors and to find out the sources of errors (interlingual and intralingual errors) in Indonesian-English translation written by the students. The type of this research was descriptive research which used Error Analysis procedures to identify and analyze the students’ error. The findings showed that the types of grammatical errors made by the students in their translation were three types, namely global errors, local errors, and other errors. The most frequent error made by the students was local errors and the fewest error made by the students was other errors.  Then, this research revealed that mostly errors occurred in students’ translation were caused by intralingual error. Meanwhile, only few errors were caused by interlingual error. The errors occured due students’ incomplete knowledge of the target language.</p>

AbstractTranslation teachers have long experimented with various methods to help students improve their translation competence. This study approaches the issue by developing an assessment framework based on error analysis and a translation grading system, with the aim of identifying the most common and frequent errors committed by students in their translation works. One group of translation students in Ningxia University, China served as the target group of the study. The errors identified in their renditions were classified, with text-level errors the most prominent, followed by translation errors and substance errors. Possible causes of the errors were analyzed, and suggestions were proposed for future teaching.

This study investigated the cohesive errors I composing essay writing done by undergraduate English Department students of University of Muhammadiyah Gorontalo, Indonesia. In elucidating the students’ difficulties in using cohesive devices, the researchers examined the cohesive errors both quantitatively and qualitatively. This study was analyzed based on an error analysis paradigm and Halliday and Hasan’s cohesion framework and taxonomy. The quantitative analysis investigated frequency and the percentage of cohesive errors and also the types of cohesive errors committed by the student. The qualitative analysis investigated linguistic a description and the explanation of the cohesive composed by the students.

This study raises issues about what it means and how to apply sipakatau, sipakalebbi, sipakainge in Bugis culture. This study aimed to get an idea of the meaning sipakatau, sipakalebbi, sipakainge, in Bugis culture and to know how it is applied in Bugis culture. There were two benefits in this study, the benefits of theoretical and practical benefits. The model of this research was qualitative models. The stages in this study were under preparation, data collection, and data processing stages. Data were analyzed based on the words, sentences and paragraphs. Analysis of the data in this study presented informally, by formulating with ordinary words. The result of this study indicate that the meaning of sipakatau is mutually humanizing, sipakalebbi is mutual understanding or respect and sipakainge is remind each other. Based on the observations stated sipakatau, sipakalebbi, sipakainge days ago still heal tightly by Bugis community of Wajo, because they think that this culture that has a message from the ancestors. Whereas in the present, in urban culture, the bugis culture is heading to extinct due to globalization, but in rural areas there is still a applied well.

This research investigates cohesive devices errors in paragraphs written by the seventh semester students at UMI Makassar. This graduating paper intends to be a descriptive qualitative research which consist of a detail linguistic description and explanation of cohesive devices errors. It explains how cohesion is used erroneously in the students’ writing. The objectives of this research are to know whether there are any cohesive errors in English essays written by the seventh semester students at UMI Makassar, to find out the types of cohesive devices error committed in those paragraphs, and to describe the dominant of errors in using cohesive devices in those paragraphs. The results show that a total of 25 errors are identified in those paragraphs include errors on the use of reference, conjunction and lexical cohesion. Errors on the use of substitution and ellipsis are not found. The percentage of errors on the use of reference is 64%, conjunction 24%, and lexical cohesion 12%. From percentage of each types of errors on the use of cohesive devices, reference becomes the first dominant error, conjunction as the second dominant error, and lexical cohesion as the last dominant error.

The research aims to describe the kinds of translation errors made by Indonesian-English translators in crowdsourcing translation application and the dominant kind of translation errors made by Indonesian-English translators in crowdsourcing translation application. The problem statements of the research are (1) What kinds of translation errors made by Indonesian-English translators in crowdsourcing translation application? (2) What is dominant kind of translation error made by Indonesian-English translators in crowdsourcing translation application?. The method used on the research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of the research was the Indonesian-English translators of crowdsourcing translation application. The researcher took 50 Indonesian-English translation requests (source language texts) and all of its’ translations in English (target language texts) from the crowdsourcing translation application to find out the translation errors. Then the researcher classified them into 5 kinds of translation errors. The results of the research revealed that there were 50 source language texts that  translated into 353 target language texts with 350 variations of translation in total.  There were 75 translation errors in total or 21.25% from all if the 353 target language texts. There were 3 (0,85%) translation errors in inversion of meaning, 11 (3.12%) translation errors  in omission of meaning, 8 (2.27%) translation errors in addition of meaning, 44 (12.46%) translation errors in deviation of meaning, and 9 (2.55%) in modification of meaning. Dominant kind of the translation error that the Indonesian-English translators made was in deviation of meanings, it was more than half (58,67%) of the total translation errors.

Translation ability requires many language skills to produce an accurate and complete text; however, one important skill, critical reading in the research, has been neglected. This research, therefore, employed the explanatory sequential mixed method to investigate the differences in Thai-English translation ability between students with a high level of critical reading skill and students with a low level of critical reading skill, and to examine the relationship between translation ability and critical reading skill. Moreover, translation error analysis, with four main aspects, pragmatic, syntactic, semantic, and miscellaneous errors, was also conducted to explore the dominant translation errors committed by both groups of students. To this end, the participants of the study were 60 English major students from a Thai university. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in Thai-English translation ability between the students with a high level of critical reading skill and the students with a low level of critical reading skill, and a significant correlation between translation ability and critical reading skill. In the translation error analysis, the semantic aspect, particularly the wrong use of words, was found to be the most frequent error committed by both groups of students.
