ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the risks, factors affecting risk and investigate the attitude  toward risk in Kebonsari, Madiun regency. This research used primary and secondary data. Primary data obtained purposively by 61 respondents. Coefficient of variation (CV) method was used to analyze the risk, while Just and Pope model was used to analyze the factors affecting production risk. Attitude toward risk was analyzed with Moscardi and de Javnry model. The result of production risk analysis shows that production of rice farming in Kebonsari Madiun regency has a low variation which is about 14,80%. It means that production risk faced by paddy farmers in this area is low. Phonska fertilizer and other fertilizer are risk-increasing variables whereas liquid pesticide is risk decreasing variable. The result of K (s) indicated that 91,60% or 56  paddy farmers are risk averter. About 4,92% of paddy farmers are risk lover and 3,28% are risk neutral. The farmers are behaving in rational manner which avoid the possible risk that might be higher than the revenues to be earned.

The study examined factors affecting rice farming practices of rural farmers in Ogun and Niger States, Nigeria. Three hundred and twenty  respondents were selected through multistage sampling procedure. Frequency distribution, percentages and mean, student’s t-test and regression analysis were used for data. All analysis was done at 5% level of significance. There was a significant difference in the farm practices of the rice farmers in Niger and Ogun States (t = 8.39, p ≤0.05). Factor affecting rice farming practices was determinants of rice production output (β = -0.13, p ≤0.05). There was difference in the farming practices of rice farmers in Ogun and Niger States. Agricultural extension services, particularly, in Ogun State should expedite action in organizing training that can facilitate adoption of better farming practices in order to increase rice production and income generation for the rice farmers, while government and input suppliers should make fertilizers available and affordable. This study aims to analyze the economic benefits, income of rice farming, allocation of credit usage and analyze the factors affecting the chances of the smoothness rate of return at Seandanan Agricultural Cooperatives. The research is conducted at Seandanan Agricultural Cooperative in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province, which is determined intentionally.  The research data were taken in July 2019.  This study uses a case study method.  Respondents in this study are 70 rice farmers member of Seandanan Agricultural Cooperative. The data analysis method use descriptive qualitative and quantitative analyses. The results showed that the economic benefits received by members of cooperative in one year is IDR1,711,312.47 and in high category. The average income of rice farming received by members of the Seandanan Agricultural Cooperative in one year has been classified as high, in the amount over cash costs and over total costs, respectively, of IDR17,308,552.78 and IDR16,416,268.56.  Allocation of credit of cooperative membersconsistd of 58.85% for productive activities and the rest, 41.15% for consumptive activities.  Factors that affect the chances of the smoothness rate of credit return by rice farmers members of Seandanan Agricultural Cooperative are the education level of farmers and the allocation of productive credit usage.Key words: agricultural cooperatives, consumptive, credit, and productive

Abstract Farmers' capacity to manage rice paddy farming is closely related to individuals' behaviour in managing the farm. Farmer capacity building program has been widely and often conducted relevant government innovation lowland rice farm and delivered to farmers. Still, the farmers cannot give a proper response to lowland rice farm management innovation, especially in terms of strengthening farmers' capacity. This study aims to: (1) determine the level of farmer capacity in managing rice paddy farmers and (2) to analyze the factors related to the capacity level of rice paddy farmers. The research was conducted in the northern part of Tangerang Regency (Pantura), the centre for rice production in the Tangerang Regency. The research was conducted from July to November 2020. Data was collected through FGD interviews and observations of 150 farmers. The data analysis used descriptive test and multiple regression. The results showed that the farmer capacity in managing lowland rice farming in Tangerang district was classified as moderate, both in resource utilization, problem identification, farming planning, and adaptability. The main factor determining the level of farmer capacity in managing rice paddy farmers is formal education and nonformal education.

This study was borne out of the fact that rice farming and cattle rearing are predominant in the northern parts of Nigeria. But there have been increasing conflicts between farmers and herdsmen particularly in north-central. To address this problem, this study empirically looked at the nexus between sensitization on gains from paddy grazing and farming practices in rice production. Data were collected from three hundred and twenty respondents with the aid of a structured interview guide and field survey. It was found that instead of using organic manure, Urea (55%) and NPK (36.9%) fertilizers were applied on the rice farms. Most (89.4%) of the respondents were not sensitized on the benefits of paddy grazing to the dairy cattle, environment, and soil. Results of the t-test indicated that no significant difference existed in the farming practices for rice production in Niger and Benue States (t = 8.9). The level of sensitization on paddy grazing correlates with the farm practices of the respondents (r = 0.69). This study concluded that respondents did not aware that paddy grazing could lead to increased rice and milk production.

<p>This work examines the factors that influence whether or not a farmer applies inorganic fertilizer in the Ghanaian context. Current maize yields in Ghana average only one-third of their estimated potential, but this yield gap can be reduced by improving farming practices and growing conditions in Ghana; specifically, yields in Ghana can likely be increased by intensifying the use of inorganic fertilizer, other inputs, and irrigation systems. Recently, Ghana introduced a fertilizer subsidy program to help increase fertilizer-use rates. This paper examines alternate instruments for increasing fertilizer use by determining farm-holder characteristics correlated with inorganic fertilizer use. The results show that the farmer's distance from the closest weekly market, whether the farmer has a pre-harvest contract, and whether the farmer has property rights on the field have a significant effect on fertilizer use.</p>
