Intermedia – (Not Only) The Visual in the Hypertext of Contemporary Art

The article presents some historical and theoretical aspects defining intermedia as an aesthetic, cultural and social phenomenon. Its appearance in the 1950s and 1960s was triggered by the changed attitude towards art in the conditions of growing technology in society and the blurring of boundaries between different arts. The concept of intermedia is created by a group of artists who unite under the common name Fluxus, meaning „ flow of life“. Group Manifesto – Dick Higgins, composer, poet, publisher - formulates intermedia as a merger into a „ flow“ of different ways of artistic expression and means of communication. The most important distinctive features of intermedia – accessibility, non-commerciality, freedom, social engagement, compliance of modern lifestyle and the new media in it are traced. It explains the role of this aesthetic practice as an instrument in creating the hypertext of contemporary art.

This article analyzes the rhetorical and discursive resonance of the claims by artists and art professionals in Brazil in the 1950s of a connection to the Bauhaus. I examine the curricula of two new art schools established in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, emphasizing the role of central figures, including Mário Pedrosa, and the works by artists trained at the schools, and study paintings by Lygia Clark that in part elicited Alfred H. Barr, Jr. in 1957 to dismiss Brazilian contemporary art as “Bauhaus exercises.” Rather than a case of imitation, as Barr suggested, Brazilian actors transformed Bauhaus ideas, mediated by Cold War re-interpretations of the German school and its approaches to artistic education, to articulate tactics of citation and adaptation and to assert a non-derivative, radical conception of modernism.

The article presents the opinions and pedagogical and educational activity of August Hermann Franke - a person of interesting biography and multifaceted activity. The main objective of this sketch is to demonstrate the influence of the assumptions and practice of Pietists on pedagogical concepts and pragmatic enterprises. As far as the origin and the evolution of Pietists are concerned, the author discusses the common, fundamental assumptions (internalized faith, active social engagement, missionary work aimed at improvement of social conditions) and their exemplifications in the activity of August Hermann Franke. The fundamental conceptions of Franke were based on pietistic motivation for life according to faith and individual experience in working with the youth. The article depicts the functioning of centres and schools founded by Franke, in which the founder introduced progressive teaching and educational methods, promoted an individual approach towards pupils. Also, he maintained strict discipline and a system of reprimand, reproval, threats and punishment. The sketch stresses the significance of teachers’ training for the role of educators and also indicates which assumptions and educational practices of Franke survived until modern-day times.

This paper highlights trends in the development of contemporary visual art in China through a parallel analysis of two of its components: painting and enamel art. The focus of the research is on the work of artists whose works combine a ‘western’ style with ‘eastern’ tradition. It was found that in the 21st century, the layer of Chinese cultural heritage was successfully transformed into new forms of expression, such as art objects, enamel sculptures, brightly colored paintings and more. At the same time, it has preserved the symbolism of color, plasticity of lines, narrative and figurative components, which is typical of the centuries-old traditions of the Celestial Empire. Artistic analysis was carried out on specific pictorial and enamel examples, distinguishing common and distinctive features in the concepts of the artists and their embodiment in the material. The way in which contemporary art enters the urban space of megacities and the interior of public institutions was analyzed. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the combination of ‘traditional’ and ‘recent’ trends in one work help to rethink the role of classical images in today’s art, as well as to identify Chinese artists in the globalized intercultural space.

Plato's Demiurge is the quintessence of perfection and power. “Whatever comes from me is indestructible unless I, myself, wish it to be destroyed” - says the creator of the gods, speaking to them in Timaeus. The gods and Demiurge are believed to collaborate on the creation of people in accordance with the standard of excellent ideas; soon the world, as we know, will be created. Plato's Demiurge is also the good, and the platonic gods are righteous. Without Demiurge the world is a chaos, an environment of irrational chances. Nowadays, the myth of Demiurge can be related to the perfection of creativity. Demiurge becomes equal to the anticipated, all-powerful driving force. Omnipotent, yet tamed and friendly. Demiurge is also the leader in the tradition of social research, the “divine” constructor of the economy, the originator of development. In the new media environment, Demiurge is a convenient metaphor for the presentation of the algorithm: mysterious, error-free, resistant to influence, free from human weaknesses. A transcendent being. The aim of this publication is to present new concept, the core myth of new media organizations - the myth of Demiurge associated with the operation of algorithms and critical analysis of myths created around it, which accompany the social, political and business role of algorithms. Considering the aspect connected with the interpretation of digital media operation and their social and business role, algorithms have not been so far analysed in the context of the presence of myths in organisational functioning. The author believes, however, that the common factor in the perception of algorithms in new media is their mythical aureole and mythical thinking associated with them.

LGBT is a social phenomenon that we are regulating in every corner of the country. The LGBT movement was originally present in the 1950s. Which LGBT is present on the basis of human rights (HAM). This study discusses the community, research objectives for research on a healthy generation and moral behavior, which is based on Islamic education, while the research method in this study uses qualitative support. Which discusses about this is used, discussing the reviewer can connect directly with the respondents and get tangible answers from the results of interviews with respondents, while in this study get some satisfying results, that respondents were given further information about the various practices in Islam. LGBT. The conclusion of the study, which is a review of the great for special respondents, about the wider community, that Islamic education can not complement in this life. Whatever the activities, and the role of Islamic education (understanding and practice) cannot be understood

This article shows how members of the contemporary art world in Poland understand the concept of the brand: how they define and validate it; what associations it evokes; and what kind of language is used to speak about it. The article summarizes part of the research conducted in 2015 with members of the art world within the framework of the project ‘The Artistic Brand as a Social Phenomenon: The Creation, Differentiation, and Role of Artistic Brands in Contemporary Poland.’ Thoughts on the subject of art brands lead to a description of the state of contemporary art in Poland. The definitions formulated by the respondents are compared to marketing theories, thus making it possible to determine the respondents’ level of knowledge of such theories. In conclusion, definitions of artistic brands are reviewed and supplemented on the basis of the material obtained from the research.

The article contains considerations concerning a role of Churches and religion in building the civil society, bringing the readers closer to the specific movement in the history of Christianity which is evangelicalism and to Churches and communities that have grown out of this movement. The author concentrates mainly on Poland, pointing out that for Poles faith and Church membership is still a very important thing. In the article there are presented two examples of evangelical Churches, i.e., the Pentecostal Church in Poland and the Baptist Church in Poland; their interest in the common good and social engagement as well as their effort put into educating children to be responsible citizens has been underlined.


By applying the researching devices of media studies, art theory, film theory, philosophy, and cultural studies as a theoretical background, this chapter aims to explore the role of remediation in new media production, where the digital procedures enable smooth interaction, remixes, mashups, and hybridization. Remediation brings the dynamics into the institution of contemporary art and electronic literature by stimulating traditional and new media to refashion each other and generate novel hybrids at the intersection of several media (e.g. animated digital textuality which refashions film and video) as well as media contexts. Although the key reference of this chapter is Bolter and Grusin's theory of immediacy, hypermediacy, and remediation, the issues of post-remediation theory are addressed as well.

John Dewey shows the essential role of artistic expression in experience. Expression, as emotional articulation, is essential to establishing our intimate engagement with the world. G.W.F. Hegel shows that just this process of expressing our mode of “dwelling” in the world has been operative historically at the cultural level. It is characteristic of contemporary art that, in attempting to establish a new form of dwelling within the context of our technological world, it articulates just this vision of our experience as essentially expressive.
