This study investigated preschool teachers’ self-efficacy levels in inclusion practices in terms of teacher-related demographic variables. The study was designed as a descriptive survey study using quantitative data collection tools. The participants were 318 teachers who are working in preschool educational institutions in the province of Malatya, Turkey. The Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practice (TEIP) Scale, which was developed by Sharma, Loreman, and Forlin (2012) and whose validity and reliability studies were carried out by Bayar (2015), was used to determine preschool teachers’ self-efficacy in inclusive practices. The study found that the preschool teachers scored 4.91 out of six points on the TEIP scale, which measures self-efficacy in inclusion practices. The preschool teachers’ age, gender, educational level, and level of interaction with individuals with special needs were not found to affect their scores on the scale significantly; however, their levels of special education training, knowledge of local laws and policies, self-confidence in working with disabled individuals, and experience in working with disabled students were found to affect their scores significantly. The findings of this study were discussed with possible implications for teachers in Turkey.

A survey study was conducted to a total of 323 in-service teachers (110 special education teachers and 213 general education teachers) in Shanghai regarding their self-efficacy and concerns about inclusive education. Multivariate analysis results reveal that special teachers have significantly higher self-efficacy about inclusive education than general education teachers and that both general and special education teachers have the similar concerns about inclusive education and the level of their concerns is not significant. In addition, the teachers' self-efficacy about inclusive education is significantly negative correlated with their concerns about inclusive education. Specific special education training experience and knowledge of disability laws and policies affect general and special education teachers differently on their self-efficacy.

Veterans may acquire technical skills and leadership ability from their military service but have little information concerning specific entrepreneurial tasks, such as developing a business plan. This descriptive survey study examines avenues for veterans to find assistance to acquire needed skills, adding to their entrepreneurial self-efficacy. We surveyed 68 U.S. veterans who were emerging entrepreneurs, either owning their own business or indicating they intended to start their own company. Veterans’ personal attitudes and beliefs, including entrepreneurial self-efficacy, risk propensity and tolerance of ambiguity, may increase their entrepreneurial intentions. A model of veterans as emerging entrepreneurs and five propositions are offered.

Human beings are social creatures by nature and one of their most important characteristics is the multifaceted communication they establish with their environment. There are numerous ways of establishing communication. However, the most preferred manner has always been speech. For the speaking skill to be used effectively, the individual should have self-confidence. Educational institutions are the places where the foundations of self-confidence are laid. In educational institutions where self-confidence is taught, it is fundamental that the educators have self-confidence themselves. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the self-efficacy levels of classroom teacher candidates, who will be teaching in primary schools where the basic characteristics of the speaking skill are taught, display any differences in terms of different variables. The study group of the study consists of students receiving education at the Department of Primary School Teaching, Faculty of Education in a state university in the 2016-2017 academic year. The study group consists of 225 students who were selected through the typical case sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling types. With the purpose of collecting data, the ‘Speaking Self-Efficacy Scale (SSES)’ developed by Aydın (2013) consisting of four sub-dimensions with a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.95 was used. SPSS software program (Version 22) was used in the analysis of numeric data. The data was analyzed with the Independent Sample t-test, One Way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests. According to the results of the study, a significant difference has been determined in the speaking process and listener factor sub-dimensions of the students in favor of the male students. Regarding the grade levels, it was concluded that the upper grade levels regarded themselves as more self-sufficient in the skill of speaking in all of the sub-dimensions.

Purpose This paper aims to offer the views that the psychological construct, self-efficacy, is significantly related to high or strong performance at work and that a brief, efficient survey allows for managers and HR practitioners to assess individuals per the characteristic. Design/methodology/approach The authors performed a broad review of literature, mostly empirical research, focused in particular upon the linkage of self-efficacy with work performance. Important conclusions of this review are reported. Also researched were the existing measures (surveys and scales) of self-efficacy that demonstrated validity and reliability. Findings Hundreds of studies, in combination, have concluded that the construct, self-efficacy, is highly and positively related to individual motivation, self-confidence, proactive behavior, and work performance, among other valued characteristics. There are measures to use to assess individual beliefs regarding self-efficacy that may be used in for recruitment and placement decisions. Originality/value Clearly expressed is the substance and value of the self-efficacy construct which has been the subject of hundreds of studies. The importance of self-efficacy and its linkage to motivation and performance is expressed. A brief, statistically valid, and reliable instrument is offered in its entirety for use by managers and/or HR practitioners.

Abstract Objective: To investigate content associated with patient safety included in the curricula of undergraduate nursing courses of two Brazilian higher educational institutions. Method: A descriptive survey study was carried out with 119 students of nursing courses (licentiate and bachelor degree), from August to September 2016. The topics investigated were based on the WHO patient safety curriculum guide: multi-professional edition. Armed with the data, univariate and bivariate analyses were carried out. Results: Of the 46 content areas investigated in the questionnaire, two scored high in non-achievement in theoretical or practical activities, namely "the culture of blame" and "community-acquired infection." Licentiate and bachelor degree students reported a higher acquisition in theoretical classes (p = 0.012), whereas bachelor degree students reported similar acquisition in theory and practice (p = 0.013). Conclusion: The content mostly included theoretical and practical approaches at least once throughout the course. However, when considering content associated with patient safety-related sociocultural aspects, lower scores were found.

This research aimed to explore the correlation between Indonesian University students’ conception of learning physics and their physics’ self-efficacy. A total of 279 students who were majoring in physics education participated in this research and were invited to complete two instruments: the conception of learning physics (CLP) and the physics learning’ self-efficacy (PLSE). Both of the questionnaires, which were modified from [Lin, Liang, & Tsai (2015a) and Lin, Liang, & Tsai (2015b)]’ instruments, had been translated into Indonesian language and validated through an exploratory factor analysis of participants’ responses. The differences between student levels were explored for their significance using an ANOVA test in order to portray a clear line among different conceptions of learning physics and physics learning self-efficacy. The results indicated that, first, the instruments used in the research had satisfactory validity and reliability. Second, students in sophomore level were significantly lower on the conceptions of testing than those in other levels. Meanwhile, the conceptions of calculating-practicing and understanding were not significantly different. Third, university students in senior level performed more confident in four dimensions: science content, higher-order thinking, everyday application, and science communication than others. The research also depicted a moderate correlation among dimensions of CLP and PLSE. Key words: conception of learning, physics education, self-efficacy, survey study, university student.

This study investigated Malaysian preschool teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes toward the use of the English language as a medium of instruction (EMI) and proposed a model of how different variables were related to their use of English in the classrooms. In order to obtain a broad picture of the nature and scope of preschool teachers’ use of EMI, a survey study was undertaken. The research instrument was a questionnaire that was distributed to randomly-selected preschool teachers throughout Malaysia. The process of modeling was based on the empirical data and a theoretical model that was constructed on the basis of the two theoretical aspects, that is self-efficacy and attitudes-behavior relation. The theoretical model served as a bridge between the abstractions from theory and the development of the model. The model suggested that strong self-efficacy influenced preschool teachers’ use of English to teach. In addition, the model also indicated that those preschool teachers with positive attitudes also felt self-efficacious in using English to teach and negative attitudes had the opposite effect. Those preschool teachers who had a positive attitude that teaching using English would be useful for the children perceived that they had greater ability toward handling classroom management issues. In addition, they believed too, that they were confident to use appropriate assessment tasks in the classroom when English was used as the medium of instruction. It would appear that self-efficacy and attitudes were mutually related to preschool teachers’ use of English to teach.
