The textbook is a compilation based on the authentic texts adapted from websites and magazines (USA, UK, Canada) and is intended for civil engineering students. One of the aims of this project has been to develop materials both for testing the foreign language competence of civil engineers and for teaching them the language that they need to require for their professional certification. I do not assume that my users will have an in-depth knowledge of civil engineering works. Therefore, the units have been devised to help students improve their knowledge and use of English in an engineering environment. Each unit covers vocabulary related to a certain topic area- ranging from basic civil engineering vocabulary to roads, architecture, bridges, types of foundations and so on- and is designed to reinforce and improve their communicative skills.

The work discusses the problem of teaching students of civil engineering departments English-language civil engineering discourse, in particular, communicative tactics of this type of discourse. We substantiate the need to form students’ skills in using the communicative tactics applied in civil engineering discourse in professional communication. We give an overview of com-municative tactics of written discourse used by the authors of English-language documentation in civil engineering professional field. The purpose of the study is to determine the level of students’ skills in using communicative tactics in a foreign language professional written speech. Theoretical and practical research showed that in a modern technical university, insufficient attention is paid to teaching students this component of professional discourse. At the same time, the level of students’ skills to use communicative tactics in professional communication is quite low, which led us to the conclusion that it is of paramount importance to include this component in the pro-gram of teaching a foreign language in a professional field. The results of the will serve as the ba-sis for the development of a methodic model of teaching civil engineering students the communic-ative tactics of professional civil engineering discourse.

This study attempts to explore the development of learning autonomy of seventeen Civil Engineering students at a state polytechnic in Indonesia when learning English as a foreign language by conducting inductive action research together with the students and was supported by the managing staff of Self-Access Language Learning (SALL). The development was analyzed from learners’ journals, observations, and class discussion or small talks. The results showed that conducting action research with the students for two semesters develops language learning autonomy in various degrees moving from physical to cognitive behaviors.  Keywords: learning autonomy, action research, Self-Access Language Learning (SALL)

Introduction. The prediction of learning outcomes plays an important role in professional training of the future civil engineers. The relevance of the article lies in the lack of a unified approach to predicting the formation of basic professional competencies among students of civil engineering universities. The purpose of the article is to describe the creation of a technology for predicting the formation of professional competencies of future civil engineers using modern computer technologies. Materials and Methods. The study was carried out on the basis of the results of the analysis of publications on the creation of social and pedagogical forecasts by computer methods, followed by the construction of “competence-based profiles”. To study the problem, empirical information from the results of passed examinations, tests performed by students of the academic programme 03/08/01 “Construction engineering” (102 students) was analysed. The data were presented in a 3D OLAP cube format. Results. As a result of the research, the author has created a step-by-step technology for quantitative forecasting of the formation of general professional, professional and universal competencies of future civil engineers, in accordance with the educational standard. A competence-based profile of a student enrolled with the construction engineering university has been built. Donbass National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture served as experimental facility. The analytical tool “Competence calculator of a future civil engineer” was developed. The optimal time for forecast development was revealed: making a forecast at the early stages of training while maintaining suf ficient accuracy. Discussion and Conclusion. The results of the study open a new theoretical direction in the study of the influence of various factors on the results of pedagogical forecasting: identifying the dynamics of achieving each of the educational results in each of the academic semesters; study of factors and indicators of the forecast background.

In the context of the man-made burden on the natural environment, the issues of developing civil engineering students’ environmental awareness are important and particularly relevant to low environmental security countries, which include Ukraine. The authors emphasize the need for broad implementation of the Concept of Sustainable Development in professional training of civil engineering students, determine the level of their environmental awareness, compare the levels of formation of environmental awareness components, and pursue to identify effective ways to environmentalize engineering training. The study involved the students of Donbas National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture. The authors selected the semi-structured questionnaire method combining rating, Likert and importance scales, alternative and unstructured questions, as well as elements of the Azapagic and the Naturafil techniques. The results did not prove the formation level of the civil engineering students’ environmental awareness to be unsatisfactory. It was also found that the civil engineering students have steady environmental beliefs and are willing to comply with environmental norms in their activities. This fact brought the authors to the conclusion that the current practice of higher technical education in Ukraine takes account of sustainable development. The level of the civil engineering students’ environmental knowledge was also determined as sufficient, while their environmental activity and environmental management skills were seen as low. According to the authors, the use of integrated and practice-oriented approaches to teaching professional subjects and the introduction of environmental topics into general education subjects will contribute to strengthened environmentalization of professional training of civil engineers. Keywords: civil engineer, environmental awareness, higher school, sustainable development, technical education

Visiting the museum is always useful and has a huge potential for learning foreign languages, because there this process is not singular and individual, and there are opportunities for communication, exchange of views and discussion in the study group. In addition, the Museum can be seen as a window into another culture, actualizing personal development beyond the acquisition of language. Museum exhibits encourage productive (speech) activities and allow for a wide variety of activities and disputes. The cross-cultural experience is initiated by the Museum subject and communication with other students. Visiting museums contributes to the formation of an intercultural dialogue. In the Museum classes, various types of speech activities can be used to promote the progress of such communicative skills as direct and reverse translation, posing various types of questions, making assumptions, evaluating, generalizing, abstracting, drawing conclusions and conclusions. Museum exhibits are an impulse for spontaneous speech, which is the goal of teaching a foreign language. Simultaneously with the development of language competence, students continue to develop such important competencies as tolerant coreference to different views, creativity. The only restriction for classes in museums is the time limit for completing tasks.

In the article presents a system of methodical work on the formation of communicative skills in foreign medical students while studying the topic «My Family». The content of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language is outlined, peculiarities of mastering oral and written forms of language are analyzed. It has been proved that the formation of the Ukrainian language competence of foreign students is based on language training, which at the initial stage of language learning involves free fluency in vocabulary. The necessity to study the main aspects of studying the topic «My Family», aimed at finding the best means and methods to meet the basic communicative needs of students in everyday and educational and professional spheres (mastering linguistic and speaking skills and developing communication skills and topical for service in the Ukrainian language environment). The basic aspects of forming of communicative and skills skills will help to optimize the process of education of foreign students in higher education institutions of Ukraine and can be used in the further development of new methods of assessing the level of professional training of future medical professionals. Provided special educational equipment and innovative approaches to the study of the Ukrainian language. Development a system of exercises aimed at enriching the vocabulary of foreigners development of oral and written, monologue and dialogical speech, improving skills from all types of speech activities. The author’s method of mastering the material, aimed at the optimal selection of ways to improve the efficiency of the lesson, is described. Methodical recommendations are given for the development of a medical profile of foreign students in the medical profile of dialogue.
