A real-life case study has been presented in this paper, where a crawler crane machine is investigated for the root cause of failure, using an expert opinion-based technique which comprises of an integrated model which is based on an Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model Exponential related function, and the intuitionistic entropy model. The main contribution and advantages of the proposed approach are in the use of a subjective and objective model for the computation of the criteria weight, which allows for complete assessment of the actual performance and value of each of the criteria. The application of the exponential-related function, which represent the aggregated effect of the positive and negative evaluations in the performance ratings of the alternatives based on the intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) data used. And finally, the method ranks all alternatives using the exponential-related function matrix, which accounts for the expert's attitudinal character, which a strong influencing factor in subjective assessments like the one used in some of the root cause of failure/reliability analysis.

AbstractAn intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS model, which is based on an exponential-related function (IF-TOPSIS) and a fuzzy entropy method, has been proposed in this study. The exponential-related function, which represents the aggregated effect of positive and negative evaluations in the performance ratings of the alternatives, based on the intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) data. Serves, as a computational tool for measuring the separation distance of decision alternatives from the intuitionistic fuzzy positive and negative ideal solution to determine the relative closeness coefficient. The main advantage of this new approach is that (1) it uses a subjective and objective based approach for the computation of the criteria weight and (2) its simplicity both in its concept and computational procedures. The proposed method has successfully been implemented for the evaluation of some engineering designs related problems including the selection of a preferred floppy disk from a group of design alternatives, the selection of the best concept design for a new air-conditions system and finally, the selection of a preferred mouse from a group of alternatives as a reference for a new design. Also, for each of the three case studies, the method has been compared with some similar computational approaches.

Abstract In this paper, an Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model which is based on a score function is proposed for detecting the root cause of failure in an Offshore Boat engine, using groups of expert’s opinions. The study which has provided an alternative approach for failure mode identification and analysis in machines, addresses the machine component interaction failures which is a limitation in existing methods. The results from the study show that although early detection of failures in engines is quite difficult to identify due to the dependency of their systems from each other. However, with the Intuitionistic Fuzzy TOPSIS model which is based on an improved score function such faults/failures are easily detected using expert’s based opinions.

“Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set” (IFS) is used to manage nebulousness and indecision. In current investigation, another intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS method is proposed for decision making by utilizing entropy weight. Current model permits estimating the degree of membership and non-membership of various alternatives assessed over a criterion set. A case study has been carried out to diagnosis of vector borne disease. Criteria’s have been selected according to relevant disease and weight has been assigned to them by medical expert’s committee. It has been established that TOPSIS method can diagnose the VBD diseases using specific symptoms as criteria and VBDs as alternatives. The suggested methodology can help in correct and timely diagnosis of VBDs and provides doctors an innovative diagnostic tool (WHO, 2004; WHO, 2014). The result is validated by applying fuzzy VIKOR method.

Software Quality has many parameters that govern its value. Of them, usually, Reliability has gained much attention of researchers and practitioners. However, today’s ever-demanding environment poses severe challenges in front of software creators as to continue treating Reliability as one of the most important attributes for governing software quality when other important parameters like re-usability, security and resilience to name a few are also available. Evaluating, ranking and selecting the most approximate attribute to govern the software quality is a complex concern, which technically requires a multi-criteria decision-making environment. Through this paper, we have proposed an Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set-based TOPSIS approach to showcase why reliability is one of the most preferable parameters for governing software quality. In order to collate individual opinions of decision makers; software developers of various firms were administered for rating the importance of various criteria and alternatives.

Abstract This article proposes an algorithmic approach for multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems using interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy soft matrix (IVIFSM) and confident weight of experts. We propose a novel concept for assigning confident weights to the experts based on cardinals of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy soft sets (IVIFSSs). The confident weight is assigned to each of the experts based on their preferred attributes and opinions, which reduces the chances of biasness. Instead of using medical knowledgebase, the proposed algorithm mainly relies on the set of attributes preferred by the group of experts. To make the set of preferred attributes more important, we use combined choice matrix, which is combined with the individual IVIFSM to produce the corresponding product IVIFSM. This article uses IVIFSMs for representing the experts’ opinions. IVIFSM is the matrix representation of IVIFSS and IVIFSS is a natural combination of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (IVIFS) and soft set. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is validated using a case study from real life

Abstract Many authors agree that the Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IVIFS) theory generates as realistic as possible evaluation of real-life problems. One of the real-life problems where IVIFSs are often preferred is the Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem. For this problem, the ranking of values obtained by fuzzing the opinions corresponding to alternatives is an important step, as a failure in ranking may lead to the selection of the wrong alternative. Therefore, the method used for ranking must have high performance. In this article, a new score function SKE and a new accuracy function HKE are developed to overcome the disadvantages of existing ranking functions for IVIFSs. Then, two illustrative examples of MCDM problems are presented to show the application of the proposed functions and to evaluate their effectiveness. Results show that the functions proposed have high performance and they are the eligibility for the MCDM problem.

The picture fuzzy set is an efficient mathematical model to deal with uncertain real life problems, in which a intuitionistic fuzzy set may fail to reveal satisfactory results. Picture fuzzy set is an extension of the classical fuzzy set and intuitionistic fuzzy set. It can work very efficiently in uncertain scenarios which involve more answers to these type: yes, no, abstain and refusal. In this paper, we introduce the idea of the picture fuzzy graph based on the picture fuzzy relation. Some types of picture fuzzy graph such as a regular picture fuzzy graph, strong picture fuzzy graph, complete picture fuzzy graph, and complement picture fuzzy graph are introduced and some properties are also described. The idea of an isomorphic picture fuzzy graph is also introduced in this paper. We also define six operations such as Cartesian product, composition, join, direct product, lexicographic and strong product on picture fuzzy graph. Finally, we describe the utility of the picture fuzzy graph and its application in a social network.

Corresponding to chance constraints, real-life possibility, necessity, and credibility measures on intuitionistic fuzzy set are defined. For the first time the mathematical and graphical representations of different types of measures in trapezoidal intuitionistic fuzzy environment are defined in this paper. We have developed intuitionistic fuzzy chance constraints model (CCM) based on possibility and necessity measures. We have also proposed a new method for solving an intuitionistic fuzzy CCM using chance operators. To validate the proposed method, we have discussed three different approaches to solve the intuitionistic fuzzy linear programming (IFLPP) using possibility, necessity and credibility measures. Numerical and graphical representations of optimal solutions of the given example at different possibility and necessity, levels have been discussed.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to establish a novel conflict analysis model so that it can well describe and deal with the real conflict problems. Design/methodology/approach – In order to overcome the shortcomings that the agents have only three attitudes with respect to the conflict issues in Pawlak conflict information system, so that it is too stiff to describe and portray the real conflict problems, the thought and methodology of the intuitionistic fuzzy set is employed to soften the agents’ attitudes of the conflict issues, and then a novel conflict analysis model is constructed. This method, to begin with, the intuitionistic fuzzy number is used to express the opposition and support degree with respect to the conflict issues from agents, and then the similarity measure method is utilized to define conflict coefficient; what is more, the conflict degrees between any two agents can be obtained, and then the alliances are determined by setting different threshold values. Finally, an example illustrates the validity and rationality of the proposed method. Findings – The novel conflict analysis model proposed in the paper can well describe and resolve a real-life conflict problems such as the conflict of national territory, employee and employer. Research limitations/implications – The proposed model can only do with the conflict problems in which there do not exit the correlations among conflict issues, while it does not cope with the conflict problems with the mutually interrelated conflict issues. Originality/value – The paper succeeds in softening the Pawlak conflict analysis information system, and describing and dealing with the actual conflict problems.
