In order to improve the manufacturing efficiency and product quality of transparent and complex plastic knobs, a hot runner injection mold is introduced in this paper. Based on a shared hot runner system and a module combination of the mold holders, inserts and the beryllium-copper cored cooling components, an effective general model for hot runner injection molding is developed. The beryllium copper insert extrusion process is employed to copy with the requirements of great variety, high quality, low price and short producing cycle for knob products. The results of CAE analysis and production validation for typical knobs and insert extrusion process demonstrate the effectiveness of the newly developed hot runner injection molding and that the product quality fulfill the requirements of real manufacturing process.

In the paper, C-Mold software was applied to the analysis of injecting molding of the notebook computer housing so as to solve the main problems of warpage and injection unbalance of the product. According to the results of filling analysis, the problem has been found out and the mold design has been improved. The described case showed the capability of CAE to find the reasons that cause warpage, duration of cooling period, sink mark, blush, color variation and shrinkage directly or indirectly. Thus, CAE analysis has a wide application prospects in injection molding.

The injection molding of plastic parts was simulated and analyzed by MOLDFLOW. Based on the result of mold flow analysis, we can optimize the structure of the mold, select equipment, determine parameters of process, and predict potential defects. The CAE technology could improve mold design ability, shorten plastic parts development cycle, improve the quality of plastic parts, reduce costs, and strengthen competitive power.

The MPI/Cool analysis module is used to simulate and analyze the cooling system of the car’s bumper. After improvement, a comparably reasonable cooling system is designed. The situation of curling and warping of the formed bumper parts is simulated and analyzed through the MPI/Warp analysis module, the cause of the excessive warpage in the formed parts is found out and relative solutions are put forward. The forming technology of injection mold is optimized and the problem of excessive warpage is resolved.
