Terminal weaning, withdrawal of mechanical ventilation when the patient is not expected to survive the process, must not be burdensome to the patient or significant others. The healthcare team must individualize the weaning process, considering the physiologic comfort of the patient and the psychoemotional comfort of both the patient and family. The following case studies illustrate variations in a method for terminal weaning that are patient-specific and are based on the experience of a supportive care team.

Titanium forging has been encountering a growing interest in the scientific and industrial communities because of the distinct advantages it provides with respect to machining, in terms of both mechanical properties of the product and material waste, thus significantly reducing the Buy to Fly ratio. In the paper, a numerical FE model, based on a tri-coupled approach and able to predict the microstructural evolutions of the workpiece during the process, is developed and set up. Calculated results are compared to experiments for a few industrial case studies. The final phases distribution in the forged parts is experimentally measured and compared to the FE model output finding satisfying overlapping.

Since indigenous construction, sustainability had appeared into practice though it was not performed in high technology manner. The paper focuses on the traditional masjids in Malaysia where traditional technology of passive design has long been inculcated. Passive design strategies which are practical are ablution from rain water harvesting, comfortable interior without mechanical ventilation and flexible layout with future expansion, employment of materials suitable to the climate and simple device of roofing system that gives major contribution to the indoor space quality. The paper reveals that practical sustainability features used by the former generations suggest great contributions to the future of architecture and construction without inflating the cost. Three masjids are chosen to be case studies and they are examined and observed in order to conform on the performance of practical sustainability

Combustion air systems are an important aspect of the performance of industrial boilers and are increasingly being used as an integral means of reducing emissions. With the wide range of unique air system designs presently deployed, traditional methods of analyzing performance, based on experience, have become more difficult and less reliable. Numerical simulations are currently being used as a tool to analyze the operation and design of these air systems and how they relate to boiler performance and emission control. A proprietary CFD combustion code has been applied to a wide range of industrial boilers. Recent results from three selected studies are presented. These case studies demonstrate the benefits of using numerical simulation to: 1) analyze and optimize an existing air system, 2) validate an upgrade design, and 3) design and develop a new air system concept.

The side-scattering lidar based on the CCD camera is a powerful tool to measure the near- ground aerosol, which is most interesting for the environmental and meteorological departments. The inversion method for the side-scattering lidar is different from the conventional Fernald method due to the differences in two lidar equations. A new inversion method for the side-scattering lidar to retrieve the aerosol backscattering coefficient is proposed for the first time, which is based on the aerosol backscattering coefficient at the ground as a restriction condition. Numerical simulation is used to analyze the convergence of this new method. Case studies indicate that this new method is reasonable and feasible.REFERENCES

Currently, dangerous reservoirs in Yunnan province are experience one serious common issue: leakage in dam body and dam foundation. To explore solutions for this issue, this study investigated the effects of the application grouting technology on dam seepage and reinforcement using case study of Montenegro reservoir project. Based on numerical simulation (STAB2005 Lizheng software), we can get results after having reinforcement, the dam saturation line was reduced after the reinforcement and the anti-seepage ability was improved significantly in both body and foundation of the dam. Furthermore, numerous successful case studies were reported using grouting technology. In conclusion, grouting technology is highly recommended as a construction method to solve leaking problems in reservoir engineering.
