In the height of autumn, the City of Peachtree Street in the Peach Tree State will be the locale of the Atlanta Meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This event, a first of its kind for Atlanta and for Georgia, is designed to attract persons interested in mathematics, kindergarten to the college level. From geometry in the kindergarten to probability and statistics in high school; from the rational numbers in the elementary school to applications of mathematics in the senior high school, from the role of reading to the role of the administrator in improving mathematics education; in short, whatever aspects of mathematics on the school and college levels fascinate one will be presented during the Atlanta Meeting, November 19-21, 1964.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) peran DUDI dalam mendorong produk kebijakan pendidikan Pemda Kota Mataram dalam mengembangkan SMK berbasis kearifan lokal; (2) implementasi penyelenggaraan kebijakan pendidikan SMK yang sesuai dengan kearifan lokal; dan (3) peran DUDI dalam pengembangan SMK. Informan kunci pada penelitian adalah Kepala Dinas Dikmen sub-bagian kepala seksi kurikulum, Kepala Sekolah, Wakasek Humas Industri, Pembimbing Industri, dan Siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) peran DUDI dalam mendorong kebijakan Pemda terkait pengembangan SMK berbasis kearifan lokal belum memadai; (2) implementasi kebijakan Pemda, antara lain: (a) monitoring dan evaluasi, (b) menyediakan unit gedung baru, (c) membuka kompetensi keahlian baru, (d) pemberian dana, (e) mengadakan Gebyar SMK se-Kota Mataram; dan (3) peran DUDI dalam pengembangan SMK antara lain: (a) penyelenggaraan prakerin siswa berjalan dengan baik. b) industri sebagai tempat pemagangan guru, c) industri terlibat dalam uji kompetensi siswa tingkat akhir dan tempat menyalurkan lulusan, d) belum ada kerja sama terkait penyediaan sarana dan prasarana, dan e) pengembangan kurikulum dalam bentuk workshop kurikulum. Kata kunci: peran DUDI, penyelenggaraan SMK, kearifan lokal THE ROLE OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (VHS) BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM IN THE CITY OF MATARAM Abstract This research aims to know: (1) the role of business and industry in encouraging the product education policy of the local government in Mataram City for developing vocaational high school (VHS) based on local wisdom; (2) the implementation of VHS education policy with an appropriate local wisdom; and (3) the role of business and industry in developing VHS. The key informants in this research were the Head of Secondary Education Curriculum Sub-section, Principal, Vice Principal of Industry Public Relations, Industry Counsellors, and students. The data were collected by observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique included data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The results showed that: (1) the role of business and industry in encouraging the regional government policy related to VHS development based on local wisdom had not been adequate; (2) the implementation of regional government policy were among others: (a) monitoring and evaluation, (b) providing a new building unit, (c) opening new expertise competencies, (d) providing funds, (e) conducting Gebyar SMK in the city of Mataram; and (3) the roles of business and industry in the development of VHS were among others: (a) the implementation of the students’ industrial practice ran well, (b) the industry as the place for teachers’ apprenticeship, (c) the industry was involved in students’ competency test at the end of the students’ study and as an institute which would recruit the graduates, d) there had not been any cooperation related to the provision of facilities and infrastructure, and e) curriculum development in the form of a curriculum workshop. Abstract Geometry is a branch of mathematics that is taught in school, from elementary school, high school and college. Student Mathematics Education Kuningan University in the course Geometry 3D which gained less than satisfactory achievements in the course of the geometry 3D. The ability visual thinking and spatial thinking affect learners' achievements in learning the geometry. Authors interested in diagnosing the difficulties Student Mathematics Education of Kuningan University in the course Geometry 3D through Ability Test of Visual-Spatial Thinking. The purpose of this study is to diagnose visual-spatial thinking abilities Student of Kuningan University and describe efforts to improve student results in the course of the geometry 3D. Based on the exposure of the work about the ability of visual-spatial thinking and discussion it can be concluded that: a) The ability of visual-spatial thinking mathematics education student Kuningan University is still low, especially students who are capable of moderate and low. Students are still experiencing difficulties in resolving problems related to the concept of a perpendicular line and projections; distance of points, lines and areas; as well as the angle between the line and the field; b) The ability of visual-spatial thinking is a skill that must be developed in studying the geometry 3D, one of the low result of learning the geometry 3D is due to the ability of visual-spatial thinking is still low; c) One effort to improve visual-spatial thinking ability of students is learning the geometry of space through problem-based learning with assisted software GeoGebra.Keywords: Visual-Spatial Thinking Ability, Geometri 3D

PUEBI (Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia) is a guideline in the use of good and correct Indonesian Language. The use of Indonesian in everyday life often does not pay attention to the rules correctly. Many Indonesian language users are still confused about raw and non-standard words, punctuation, and so on. Actually PUEBI learning has been given from the elementary school level to the college level, but its application is still not appropriate in everyday life. Now, with increasingly rapid technological advancements, many applications can be used as media for learning, one of which is Instagram. Through Instagram, knowledge about PUEBI can be shared in the form of pictures or videos to make it more attractive. This study aims to reveal the role of Instagram as a medium in PUEBI learning. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through library research. The results of this study indicate that Instagram has an important role in PUEBI learning.

New technologies in education have brought challenges to the educational environment for the school and, above all, for the teacher's practice outside and within the classroom, as it now requires a new profile of educator who is no longer one who only exposes content and after demanding the results in the assessments, the teacher must have the role of mediator between the student and knowledge. Starting from this initial position, this paper seeks to analyze the challenges faced by the school and the teachers to insert and work with the student in the world of new technologies, while trying to identify the problems faced by teachers in the context of the classroom and the challenges to insert the student in the use of new technologies. The methodology used was a bibliographical research combined with a field research, starting from a quantitative and qualitative approach with students and teachers on the use of these resources in the classroom. The research had the participation of thirty-two first-year high school students and ten teachers from different areas of knowledge, from the Monsenhor Vicente Freitas State High School, located in the city of Pombal in the State of Paraíba. The main authors who contributed with important reflections for the construction of this work were: FREIRE, GADOTI and KENSKI.

High school teacher of mathematicsand I include myself among them—have long been accustomed to criticisms from colleagues at the college level about the teaching of mathematics in the high schools. Occasionally we have reacted to these criticisms by criticizing our colleagues in the elementary school. Yet yea rs of teaching have convinced me that we all, by and large, do the best we can at all levels. Indeed, I have a profound admiration for the elementary school teachers who, facing very broad responsibi lities, achieve great success in all areas, including mathematics.

As noted in Bishop (1992), at the initial meeting of the International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME) in 1969, only one presentation directly addressed the role of inquiry in mathematics education research. If ICME 1988 is an indicator, then such discussion will be a hallmark of the international interchange to be held in Quebec in August 1992. In 1994, the presses will release the 25th volume of the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME). At the Research Presession of the Annual Meeting of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Thomas Carpenter, outgoing editor of the JRME, remarked that whereas over 70% of volume 1 of the JRME reported purely quantitative studies, nearly 50% of the 1991 volume presented qualitative works (1992). Mathematics education research traditions still are evolving, in comparison to the more established research traditions in some disciplines, but the field is beginning to come of age. At this time it is reasonable for the mathematics education community to examine the varying approaches and traditions that characterize mathematics education research as well as the nature of evidence within these approaches and traditions.
