Character education implementation must be integrated with various life activities. Storytelling activities can be a medium for character education, both at school and outside school. This is in line with the benefits of storytelling, namely to sharpen the imagination and thought, instill values and ethics, and improve vocabulary.  This study aimed to find out the steps of storytelling as a character learning strategy. The research method used was a qualitative case study approach. The collecting data process was through interviews, discussions, observations, and literature studies. Validity and reliability tests were through the process of data triangulation and source triangulation. Consideration of choosing this method was the research data nature, which could maintain the object integrity. This means that data relating to research was comprehended as an integrated whole. Descriptive data analysis was through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. Data sources in the study amounted to 7 people, consisting of community and religious leaders (3 people), manager of the ‘Saung Budaya Tatarkarang’ community reading park (2 people), and the education office (2 people). The results showed that storytelling activities at ‘Saung Budaya Tatarkarang’ were able to build children's character at the stages of socialization and internalization. This occurred due to the implementation of storytelling activities through the stages of setting goals and theme of the story, the form of storytelling, materials and tools, the design steps of storytelling activities, and the design of storytelling activities assessment. These five steps are carried out in stages in each event.

A situation-based or modified case study approach to learning has been adopted in an upper division fruit production course that is taught at Oregon State University in the Department of Horticulture. A new case study, which will have a high probability of generating discussion on key pomological themes, is developed each term. On the first meeting day of class, students identify relevant themes in the case study. A modified jigsaw cooperative learning strategy is then used to cover the relevant subject matter throughout the term. While using this strategy, groups of two to three students become experts on a theme and are responsible for sharing their knowledge with their peers. The instructor mentors the experts by reviewing assignments created by them, checking answers to assignments, and administering quizzes on the themes. About midterm, larger groups of six to seven students begin their preparation of an oral presentation and written synthesis of the goals and possible pathways for achieving the targets of the primary stakeholders (i.e., orchardists, field representatives, extension faculty, etc.) that are presented in the case study. The groups make their presentations to the stakeholders at the end of the term. Students are required to prepare an individual written report. This learning approach links theory with practice, gives students practice in extensively analyzing a situation, enables students to become conversant in and knowledgeable of basic pomology, builds positive relationships between fellow students, and provides multiple experiences for communicating information and student's discoveries.

An ethnographic case study approach to understanding women’s actions and reactions to husbands’ emigration—or potential emigration—offers a distinct set of challenges to a U.S.-based researcher.  International migration research in a foreign context likely offers challenges in language, culture, lifestyle, as well as potential gender norm impediments. A mixed methods approach contributed to successfully overcoming barriers through an array of research methods, strategies, and tactics, as well as practicing flexibility in data gathering methods. Even this researcher’s influence on the research was minimized and alleviated, to a degree, through ascertaining common ground with many of the women. Research with the women of San Juan Guelavía, Oaxaca, Mexico offered numerous and constant challenges, each overcome with ensuing rewards.
