World requires people with knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow a full development of citizenship in a digital ecosystem. An educational response to this social demand is digital competence. Thus, this purpose requires optimal levels of Digital Teaching Competence (DTC), especially in the Vocational Education Training (VET) sector. With the aim of attending to this educational context, this work proposes a understanding framework that integrates the vision of pedagogy, resources and evaluation to understand, evaluate and propose improvements in the digital competence of VET teachers. Using a qualitative approach, eleven in-depth interviews were conducted on the DTC of VET teachers in the province of Valencia (Spain). These data were analysed from the categorization of 4 educational scenarios with technology (individual learning, teaching with ICT, collaborative learning and student self-learning). The main conclusion detected is that interviewed teachers have knowledge of some technological resources and applications, attitude and ability to incorporate them into their teaching practice. However, they do not integrate technology in the learning assessment at the same competence level as in the other dimensions.

Many Nowadays, digital teaching competence transcends the individual training of teachers in ICT. The European framework DigCompEdu, highlights that teachers must train students in the application of digital technologies in a critical and responsible way, in terms of information, communication, content generation, wellbeing and problem solving. Despite the good intentions to systematize a common model of development of digital competence, it is detected that the proposals lack a pedagogical approach that serves as a theoretical framework for them. This paper proposes a development model of the digital teaching competence based on the sociocultural approach through four constructs: Command, Preference, Reintegration and Appropriation. For this study, an ad hoc scale is created to record the digital teaching competence through the development of this in their students and empirical evidences are provided. A survey type design is proposed. The sample consists of 1,881 students of compulsory education in Andalusia (Spain). SPSS is used to analyse data. The average general results for each of the dimensions studied reveal a medium level of development of digital competence. It is concluded that there is still too much to be done in terms of teacher training in ICT, being necessary to provide them strategies for the development of this in their students.

The new information and communication technologies became the fundamental axis of 21st century society, generating new training spaces and training modalities. The teaching practice must become a participant in the new models of learning and training, for which the need arises for the teaching qualification in terms of digital competence, an argument that is strongly requested to include in this activity. This article describes and presents the results of the research carried out in the Santander Technology Units (UTS, Colombia), to know, assess and forecast the level of knowledge and digital competence of teaching staff, assigned to the two faculties of the institution ; Within the evaluated dimensions, information was requested regarding identification data (sociodemographic and labor), use and knowledge of ICT, integration of ICT in teaching practice, teacher training and innovation in ICT and the ethical component in teaching work. There was a research instrument (survey) already used and validated in another study of the same type, which was adapted to the institutional context of the UTS. A university server was used to host the survey and was presented telematically by the teachers. As a conclusion to the analysis of results, a work proposal was designed to improve digital skills based on the training needs detected.

This phenomenological study ascertained the plight and aspirations of young criminologists who were engaged in teaching practice. Two research questions were answered: (1) What is the plight of young criminologists in the teaching practice; and (2) What are the aspirations of young criminologists in the teaching practice? It involved ten research informants presently employed with higher education institutions (HEIs) within Central Visayas, Philippines. The collection of information techniques used were in-depth interviews and focus group discussion. The research participants shared their plight in the teaching practice and their aspirations in their career. Nine themes surfaced in this study: low confidence, difficulties in oral and written communication, a teacher by accident, lack of preparation for teaching practice, job satisfaction, professional status, technical skills, professional & personal growth, and support to enhance teaching competence.

The Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI:TAC) was originally developed as a tool to assess the teaching competence of mindfulness-based program (MBP) teachers. The tool was made freely available and has since been used by mindfulness-based teacher training organisations internationally. During this time the MBI:TAC has evolved in its usage, from an assessment tool to one which informally supports how MBP teachers are trained. In this article, we first examine the rationale for implementing the MBI:TAC in MBP teacher training; second, we offer practical guidance on ways of integrating the tool into teacher training pathways with awareness of its potential and possible pitfalls; and third, we offer guidance on using the tool as a framework for giving effective feedback to trainees on their teaching practice. Implementing the MBI:TAC in teacher training may support the quality and integrity of MBP teacher training, and thus ensure high quality MBP teachers graduating. In turn this may help avoid the ‘implementation cliff’ – that is, the quality of an intervention delivery is delivered in optimal conditions when it is being researched, and drops in quality when delivered in sub-optimal, ‘real world’ conditions.

The impact and benefit that information and communication technologies (ICT) have in the educational field require new teaching skills. This fact has been increased by the recent crisis caused by COVID-19. This study tries to investigate the level of digital teaching competence (DTC) of Higher Education teachers of Health Sciences, and its relationship with several variables. For this, it has the participation of 300 teachers from the 9 universities of Andalusia (Spain). The research is structured through a descriptive (RQ1) and inferential (RQ2) design. The answers given to the DigCompEdu Check-In questionnaire adapted to the Spanish context are analyzed. The results, which show high levels of reliability of the questionnaire (Cronbach and McDonald) and validity (CFA), indicate that the level of competence is basic-intermediate. In addition, the area in which teachers excel is digital resources. For this reason, it is proposed to structure personalized training plans and continue expanding the characteristics of this study at an international level.

Drawing on theories from the sociology of work and the sociology of culture, this article argues that members of nascent technical occupations construct their professional identity and claim status through an omnivorous approach to skills acquisition. Based on a discursive analysis of 56 semi-structured in-depth interviews with data scientists, data science professors and managers in Israel, it was found that data scientists mobilise the following five resources to construct their identity: (1) ability to bridge the gap between scientist’s and engineer’s identities; (2) multiplicity of theories; (3) intensive self-learning; (4) bridging technical and social skills; and (5) acquiring domain knowledge easily. These resources diverge from former generalist-specialist identity tensions described in the literature as they attribute a higher status to the generalist-omnivore and a lower one to the specialist-snob.
