Future teachers' attitudes towards mathematics can influence the teaching of this subject-matter in the earlier years. In order to know their attitudes, 1,150 Primary Education students (2nd, 3rd and 4th years) of the Faculty of Education at the University of CCC were surveyed during 6 academic years. They were given the Auzmendi (1992) test which is composed of 25 items on a 1-5 Likert scale. The results show that 1 in 3 students has a negative attitude (lower than 3). They also show that men have a more favourable attitude than women and that 4th-year students have the highest attitude. The item with the highest score refers to the self-confidence factor whereas the one with the lowest score relates to the liking factor.

Palavras-chave: cidadania; professores universitários; motivação profissional; autoconfiança; qualidade no ensino superior. Abstract This study aims to show how the citizenship behaviors of university teachers (CBUT) relate with: a) the professional motivation and self-confidence of their students; b) a global performance score given by their students. Four CBUT dimensions were investigated: participatory behavior, practical orientation, conscientiousness and courtesy. A sample of 209 graduates, from several organizations and occupations, was collected. The main results are: a) the four CBUT dimensions explain 79% of the global performance score variance, 70% of the professional motivation variance, and 40% of the self-confidence variance; b) according to the graduates, the excellent teacher is the one who scores well on the four CBUT dimensions. Keywords: citizenship behaviors; university teachers; professional motivation; selfconfidence; quality in higher education.

This paper presents the findings of a study carried out in the academic year 2014-2015 at the faculty of Education of the University of Murcia with first year degree students in Primary Education studying Research and ICT. The study started with the application of the DIGCOM questionnaire to analyze the digital competences of 134 students. The questionnaire served as an initial task to help students reflect on their digital competences. The subject was developed around tasks which adopted a transversal approach and used the nature of the contents itself to direct and improve students’ digital competencies. Finally, the initial questionnaire was reformulated and run in order to ascertain the students’ self-perception of their improvement in these competencies through the tasks they had performed.

Below we present the tasks carried out, the organization of each subject and the most relevant data regarding the self-perception of digital competencies of the future primary school teachers enrolled at the University of Murcia. The data reveal, on the one hand, that the students participating consider themselves to be competent in the most basic aspects of digital competencies and, on the other, their perception that the work done in the subject has helped them quite a lot in improving their competencies.

Integrating dependability in self-optimizing systems is a challenging task. Self-optimizing systems incorporate on the one hand the opportunity to apply novel solutions to complex mechatronic systems, but on the other hand constitute a possible risk because of non-determined behavior. The dependability concept in this paper covers both aspects: Increasing safety with self-optimization and minimizing the risk of self-optimization. This dependability concept is combined with the self-optimization process of the active guidance module which is currently under development at the Collaborative Research Center 614 at the University of Paderborn.

The aim of this research was to establish a relation between self-confidence and self-concept, on the one hand, and the performance of the apparatus elements and the floor routine, on the other. The research included 29 subjects, aged 20 to 27, with the average age of the subjects being 21 years old (M= 21.16, SD= 1.54). The following measurement instruments were used: RSES (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale) and SC-6, as well as the evaluation of the performance of the floor exercises (side-to-side and front-to-back cartwheel, roundoff, front and back handspring, forward and backward flip) and a vault (squat through on the vault and straddle vault with pre-flight, front handspring on vault, roundoff vault) and with the apparatus: the high bar (uprise on bars with legs together, kip, front mill circle, back circle, underswing dismount) and the parallel bars (swing, forward roll, back roll, shoulder stand, front toss dismount, back toss dismount) by a three-member committee. The results showed that Rosenberg’s confidence scale produced statistically significant correlations with all the remaining subscales of moderate or high intensity, and the highest one with the scale of the self-concept (rs= .73), while the lowest one with the scale related to the performance of gymnastic elements on the apparatus (rs = .45) (Cohen, 1988 according to Cumming, 2012). In contrast to this scale, the scale of the self-concept is in statistically significant correlation with the gymnastic elements (rs = .61) on the floor and the vault, while the statistically significant correlation of this scale is missing with the gymnastic elements on the apparatus. It can be concluded that a high level of confidence in one’s own abilities through the entire training period enabled a better access to learning, repetition and, finally, the demonstration of the selected gymnastics elements, while the level of general satisfaction was not a decisive factor in the process.

Background: In recent years, the abusive use of the smartphone has reached a situation that could be considered pathological. In this sense, different instruments to assess this problematic use or addiction to the smartphone are used. One of these instruments is the Smartphone Addition Inventory (SPAI), which has been validated in the Spanish language (SPAI-Spain). The main difficulty of these scales is to establish a cut-off point that determines such mobile addiction. On the other hand, self-perception was used in different addictions as a predictor of the problem. Aim: The objective of this study was to establish the cut-off point in the scores of the SPAI-Spain, using as a reference the self-perception of addiction values. Methods: A receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis was carried out, establishing as the cut-off point the one that presented a higher value of Youden J, indicative of its sensitivity and specificity. Results: 2958 participants from the university community completed the SPAI–Spain questionnaire. Differences in SPAI–Spain scores were found among age groups and gender, even though not all of them were statistically significant. When using the self-perception of smartphone addiction as the benchmark value, a score of 44 was established as the cutting point of the SPAI-Spain questionnaire, with a Youden J corresponding to 0.416. Conclusions: The implementation of a cut-off point of the SPAI-Spain questionnaire makes it an instrument that allows early identification of those individuals at risk of addiction, as well as the establishment of preventive and/or intervention measures.

The term ‘competences’ in this paper refers to a combination of knowledge, skills and abilities that students gain through initial teacher education and use for effective teaching in early childhood and pre-school settings. Activities in visual arts and music are important aspects of early childhood education, because they facilitate emotional, cognitive, social and psychomotor development. The role of educators is to provide children with a supportive environment where they can express themselves artistically and develop a certain level of competence in the arts; hence the purpose of this study was to measure and evaluate teaching competences of preschool education students in arts. We present the outcomes of a research on students in the third year of preschool education at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Education and at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Education who were self-assessment for their competences from the point of view of artisticdidactic contents. Keywords: Preschool education, competences, fine arts, music.
