The discussion on innovation and the adoption of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and their impact on economic growth and development have flared up in the past few years. This debate has become increasingly relevant in emerging countries like Argentina, which, in spite of high economic growth rates in the last decade, has been facing the challenge of quality employment creation. This chapter analyzes the impact of the ICT diffusion process in Argentine companies from a firm-level employment, innovation capabilities development, and knowledge management approach. Recent findings support the linkage between different firms’ ICT adoption patterns and the development of innovation capabilities, employment dimensions, and knowledge management practices. These results provide evidence to think and develop new productive and technological policies.

The current knowledge-innovation led economy requires a new paradigm of innovation to address critical issues, among others, namely: poor social health, poor living conditions, poor education systems, public income inequality, massive unemployment, poor economic growth and lack of new technological advances. Thus this paper explores the concept of social innovation in the context of strategic knowledge management processes.  This paper suggested that social innovation is an outstanding solution in addressing social, economic and technological issues highlighted above, because the outcome of social innovation encompasses social, economic and technological payoffs concurrently. Strategic knowledge management processes, creates superior knowledge resource that is regarded as a new and novel solution that can be embedded into products, processes and services which in turn leads to the outcome of improving the quality of people’s life, stimulate economic growth and enhance technological advances i.e. social innovation. The old paradigm of innovation that refers to technological innovation is seen inadequate and obsolete in dealing with aforesaid social, economic and technological issues because it is very much focused and centred in fulfilling private needs. Therefore, social innovation and strategic knowledge management processes must be seriously considered by the policy makers, private sectors and also public institutions given the massive contribution that it might bring forward to many nations’ core aspirations.

AbstractThis paper presents the design of a unit of knowledge management in a company in automotive company’s sector, considering the vital source of economic growth in all developed country is able to increase their levels of productivity, which is based on the ability to their industries to innovate and perfect. In this Knowledge-based economy knowledge is the driver of economic growth and knowledge management (KM) is seen as a strategic tool by most successful organizations. ICTs have transformed the way information and knowledge are acquired, created, stored and shared. These days, social media has become a mainstream for internal and external communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing. As the importance of KM is increasing, the numbers of ethical and legal issues also are escalating through-out the KM life-cycle from knowledge creation to knowledge maintenance, such as, issues related to privacy, confidentiality, plagiarism, ownership and intellectual property. Advanced technologies have raised new concerns and issues regarding KM and business at large in the form of ethical challenges. This chapter discusses the ethical and legal issues in Knowledge Management Life-Cycle in Business. In its conclusion, the chapter presents recommendations to overcome some of the ethical and legal challenges of KM in business.

In this chapter, we will discuss the unequal partnership between industry and academy when dealing with IP and its usage. The main parameters towards economic growth when dealing with knowledge creation and market introduction of said knowledge relate, to knowledge management and protection are mentioned. These issues refer to the ability of the academy to research all, but often the permission to commercialize only part (FTO), and the ability of the industry to commercialize combined with its limitations on research (Porath, 2010). Among other topics to be discussed are the knowledge gap between basic research and applied research, and the role of translational research. The role of basic research institutes, the role of industrial research organization (regional or national), and the competition between such institutes and the alternative, the R&D support program.

New technologies have major effects on the profitability of companies and the economic growth of society. If appropriate technologies can be routinely selected, then it is possible to achieve sustainability at a company level. Knowledge management (KM) can be used to support technology decision making and give an understanding of the potential of particular technologies in a specific business environment. In this study, the design research methodology (DRM) is used with three case studies in an industry environment to develop and evaluate a novel technology valuation method (TVM). The proposed six-step TVM focuses on the acquisition, modeling, and validation of product-related knowledge to support KM related to technology decisions. The contribution of this research is to use distinctions between product properties and behaviors with a disposition toward understanding the potential of technology. During the process, tacit knowledge is made visible and documented, which supports the reliability of technology decisions and enables companies to gain sustainability.
