Masson’s haemangioma was first described by Masson in 1923 as “haemangioendothelioma vegetant intravasculaire”. It is common in skin and subcutis which appears as red blue nodule. It also occurs in fingers, trunk, head and neck, heart, larynx and hypopharynx. Masson’s haemangioma is a rare venous malformation. Treatment is complete surgical excision. It is rarely known to recur. It is a locally occuring lesion with no reports of metastasis. Venous malformation can be distinguished by their characteristic imaging findings at doppler ultrasound vs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and direct phlebography. A 30-year-old male presented with swelling in the left submandibular region for one month. On examination a cystic swelling was present in left submandibular region. Ultrasound Sonography test (USG) neck with doppler revealed multilocular cystic swelling with low level internal echoes in left submandibular region suggestive of low flow venolymphatic malformation. The mass was surgically excised and sent for histopathological examination and reported as masson’s haemangioma. Masson’s haemangioma is a rare venous malformation. Appropriate history, clinical examination and investigation leads to the correct diagnosis and treatment. Incomplete removal of the mass leads to recurrence. The patient was still on follow-up and no recurrence was noted.

AbstractMalignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are rare neoplasms, usually arising from components of nerve sheath such as perineural fibroblasts or Schwann cells. Primary scalp MPNST is an exceptionally rare entity and only few cases have been reported till date. We encountered an unusual case of giant scalp MPNST in a 70-year-old man without any history suggestive of neurofibromatosis associated with intracranial extension with underlying bone destruction. The tumor was treated with complete surgical excision followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Histopathological examination showed hyper- and hypocellular areas of spindle cells admixed with myxoid areas and immunohistochemistry revealed positivity to vimentin and S100 on the basis of which the diagnosis of MPNST was made.

Background and Objectives: Retroperitoneal schwannoma is a very rare case of schwannoma which commonly occurs in the other part of the body. However, it is difficult to distinguish schwannoma from other tumors before pathological examination because they do not show specific characteristics on imaging study such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance image (MRI). Case summary: A 60-year-old male showed a retroperitoneal cystic tumor which is found incidentally during evaluation of coexisted bladder tumor. Neurogenic tumor was suspicious for the retroperitoneal tumor through pre-operative imaging study. Finally, a schwannoma was diagnosed by immunohistochemical examination after complete surgical excision laparoscopically. Conclusion: As imaging technology is developed, there may be more chances to differentiate schwannoma from other neoplasm. However, still surgical resection and histopathological examination is feasible for diagnosis of schwannoma.

AbstractThe present study is a case report of vulvar lipoma. The vulva is a rare site for the development of lipomas, and the aim of the study is to determine if the current imaging modalities can diagnose lipomas correctly. A 43-year-old patient presented with a painless, slowly progressive, oval, mobile and non-tender right vulvar mass compressing the vagina and totally covering the introitus. Both the ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams suggested the diagnosis of lipoma. Surgical excision was performed, and the histopathological examination of the mass confirmed a lipoma.

Cardiac myxomas are the most common primary cardiac tumors and are typically attached to the interatrial septum. Left ventricular myxomas are exceedingly rare and presentation in children is all the more uncommon. We report a case of left ventricular myxoma with very atypical cystic appearance raising an initial suspicion of a hydatid cyst. Subsequently, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging was done, which ruled out the diagnosis of hydatid cyst. Complete surgical excision was done through transaortic and transmitral route. Histopathological examination revealed it to be a cardiac myxoma with vascular proliferation, which on echocardiography had appeared as a polycystic lesion. This is a very unusual histopathological presentation of cardiac myxoma.

Granular cell tumour (GCT) is a rare soft tissue lesion which many consider to have malignant potential of yet unknown aetiopathogenesis. Oral GCT lesions may occur in an area of leucoplakia and are predominantly present on the tongue. This case study highlights an uncommon presentation of this condition located on the buccal mucosa and illustrates the need for meticulous evaluation of suspicious lesions. Due to the malignant risk associated with GCT lesions, it is important to make the correct diagnosis and ensure complete surgical excision for these cases. Ongoing long-term follow-up is also indicated to monitor for recurrence or malignancy.

ABSTRACTHuman coenurosis is a rare zoonotic disease caused by the larvae of Tinea multiceps seen in sheep-rearing countries. We report the case of a 63-year-old male who was referred to our hospital with a working diagnosis of skull base chondrosarcoma. Histopathological examination after surgical excision revealed characteristic feature of coenurus with multiple scolices invaginating from the outer cuticular layer. Coenuri are often mistaken for giant cysticercal cysts and hydatid cysts. Despite its wide prevalence in cattle, only two cases of human coenurosis are reported from India till date. We report the third case from India.

Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of minor salivary glands is an extremely rare entity that has only recently been described, with a few published cases in the English literature. A 42-year-old woman with a history of a surgically excised mucinous cystadenoma of the oral tongue, presented with a painful swelling in the oral tongue slowly growing for 1 month. On clinical examination, there was a firm, relatively well-circumscribed mass in the left posterior border of the mobile tongue. Subsequent MRI scan revealed a heterogeneous lesion composed of multiple cysts separated by contrast enhancing septa, in the posterior two-thirds of the left tongue. Imaging findings were similar to those of the previously resected mass, suggesting local relapse of the primary lesion. A complete surgical excision was performed and the histopathological examination revealed typical features of a low-grade mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of minor salivary glands.

Subdural osteomas are extremely rare benign neoplasms. Here, we report the case of a 35-year-old female patient with a right frontal and parietal subdural osteoma. The patient presented with a 2-year history of intermittent headache and fatigue. Computerized tomography (CT) scan showed a high-density lesion attached to the inner surface of the right frontal and parietal skull. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated T1 hyperintensity and T2 hypointensity of the lesion. Intraoperatively, the hard mass was located in subdural space and attached to the dura mater. Histopathological examination revealed lamellated bony trabeculae lined by osteoblasts and the intertrabecular marrow spaces occupied by adipose tissue. The patient underwent neurosurgical resection and recovered without complication. Surgical excision is recommended to extract the symptomatic lesions with overlying dura mater.

AbstractOrbital schwannomas are rare neoplasms of the orbit. The presenting symptoms are often nonspecific. Classic imaging characteristics seen on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and orbital ultrasound can be useful to help aid in the diagnosis of orbital schwannoma. When diagnosed, the goal of treatment is complete surgical excision. The location of the tumor within the orbit dictates which surgical approach would provide the best exposure. When complete excision is achieved, recurrence rates are very low.This article addresses the etiology, patient population, presentation, natural history, and differential diagnosis of orbital schwannomas. Imaging characteristics and histopathologic subtypes are reviewed. Treatment goals, approaches, and specialties involved in the management of these patients is discussed. Finally, a representative case is presented.
