3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-tiadiazoles with substituted-styril and heterocycle-vinyl were obtained by extending the method which implies the use of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-ditiazolium salts as precursors [1-4]. A comparative study of the reaction process in the case of perchlorates, diacide phosphates, tribromides and 3,5-distyrile-dithiazolium triiodides, taken as etalon, was perfomed. Good yields were obtained when using perchlorates, phosphates and triiodides. The reaction was made by heating the reaction mixture and by ultrasound exposure. The structure of the compounds was confirmed by chemical and physical analysis and the data obtained were identical to those of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-tiadiazoles obtained by another methods [5,6]. The biological (antibacterial and anticancer) activity of the synthesized compounds was tested and the results indicated a medium activity.

Abstract Objectives: The objectives of our study were to identify the student’s perceptions related to their academic failure and compare these perceptions with their nationality. Methods: A, non-interventional, bi national, comparative study was conducted in medical colleges of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, in year 2015-2018, by taking a purposive sample of 210 students. All those who gave consent and scored less than fifty percent in their professional examinations were included. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Frequencies and percentages were calculated, and Man Whitney U was applied to calculate p value. Results: According to the respondents, common reasons of failure identified were information overload (n=114,50%), difficult examination (n=101, 48%), poor teaching skills of teachers (n=82, 39%), system of education (n=75,36%) and unfair examination (n=78,37%). Eleven items in nationality group were found significant. Conclusion: Regardless of few cultural and environmental differences in factors contributing towards failure in students of different countries, the risk factors are common to all students. Moreover, most students tend to blame external factors more than internal ones. Identifying language affiliation among children for family immigrants is crucial for one’s language identity. This study aimed to determine the role played by Arab families in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Austria, and Britain to attain language affiliation among their children. It also aims to identify the challenges facing families living in these countries in achieving language affiliation among their children. The study population consisted of all the families that live in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to all the Arab families that live in Austria and Britain and the study sample included (120) parents. The researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical approach and used the questionnaire as the study tool. The study reached several results; first, the role played by families in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Austria, and United Kingdom to attain language affiliation among their children got a high degree of response. Second, the challenges facing activating the family’s role in attaining language affiliation of their children in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Austria have got a high degree of response, while in Britain, they obtained a very high degree of response. The study recommended involving all family members in accessing different and creative ways of practicing their native language and activating the role of social media in developing the language affiliation of children.

This study was aimed to investigate weeds kind in palm plantations. Date palm is the most chief economic crop in most countries of the Arabian Peninsula. Many factors, such as the presence of weeds, may cause a huge loss in the production of dates. Despite the severe damage caused by the presence of some weeds in agroecosystems, many weeds have many medicinal and economic uses. A total of 62 species were listed in palm Plantations in Tabuk and Al-Qassim Regions. A total of 51 species were listed in Tabuk Region (The number of unique species in the Tabuk Region reached 32 that not recorded in Al-Qassim Region. Also, 19 species were recorded in both of Tabuk and Al-Qassim Regions). A total of 30 weeds were listed in Al-Qassim Region (The number of unique species in the Al-Qassim Region reached 11 that not recorded in the Tabuk Region. In addition to, 19 species were recorded in both of Tabuk and Al-Qassim Regions). Zygophyllaceae was the most common family, the majority life span was annuals and the most common life form was therophyte in both Tabuk and Al-Qassim Regions. Data management and classification were achieved using PCORD (TWINSPAN and DCA analyses).

Background: Medicinal plants have been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of numerous diseases worldwide. There is a dire need for new anticancer agents and plants used in traditional medicine are a particularly useful source. Materials and methods: In this study, extracts of five different plants that grow in the desert of Saudi Arabia were evaluated to assess their cytotoxicity against the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line. Soxhlet extraction was carried out on the leaves and stems using different solvents. The cytotoxicity of these extracts against MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells was assessed using the 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays. The apoptotic cellular morphological changes were observed using inverted and fluorescence microscopes. Results: Our results showed that two of the five different medicinal plants (Rumex vesicarius and Malva parviflora) exhibited strong anticancer activity against the breast cancer cells. Specifically, 2 of the 40 extracts (from the five studied plants) showed promising activity. The chloroform extract of the stem of R. vesicarius (RSV CHCL3) exhibited moderate anticancer activity with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 230 µg/mL while that of the hexane extract of M. parviflora stems (MPS Hex) was 248 µg/mL. Loss of cell integrity, shrinkage of the cytoplasm, and cell detachment were observed in the extract-treated MDA-MB-231 cells. Conclusion: R. vesicarius and M. parviflora chloroform and n-hexane stem extracts showed significant cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231 human breast carcinoma cells.
