The prevalence of overweight and obesity especially among adolescent girls has increased at an alarming rate in many parts of the world. This study was designed to assess the diet, physical activity and food consumption pattern of adolescent girls in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A descriptive cross sectional survey carried out using a pre-tested self-administered structured questionnaire among 236 adolescent girls aged 10-16 years from randomly selected secondary schools in Port Harcourt. A self-administered questionnaire used to collect data on diet, physical activity and food consumption patterns of the respondents. The collected data analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 19.0). The frequency and descriptive analysis were included in the data analysis. The result revealed that a high percentage of girls (55.71%) skip their breakfast sometimes, consumed light meals (47.71%), had their meals thrice per day (61.43%) and eats occasionally from outside their homes (55.71%). The result also showed that rice (44.92%), yam (69.49%), sweet potatoes (47.88%), beans (33.90%), vegetables (47.88%), milk and milk products (36.86%) and energy dense beverages (38.14%) mostly consumed 1-2 times per week, while fish (51.27%), meat (51.27%), fruits (33.05%) and snacks (49.58%) were more consumed daily by the adolescent girls. The result also revealed that the girls were more active in dancing, walking for exercise and jogging/running. It was also found out that more than 60% or more of the adolescent girls were participating in some kind of regular physical activity on a weekly basis. The findings emphasize an urgent need for implementing an appropriate intervention for breakfast consumption, improving vegetable intake and daily milk consumption as this could assist in preventing the development of diseases associated with an inadequate intake of nutritious food.

Abstract Objectives The study assessed the blood glucose level of adult women (30–60 Years ), In Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. In relation to their blood pressure and anthropometric indices. Methods A cross sectional survey was conducted. Samples were selected by method of simple random sampling technique of balloting without replacement. Anthropometric indices of weight and height were used to assess the BMI, while waist hip ratio (WHR) was used to check for abdominal obesity. Glucometer and Blood pressure monitor was used to check the random blood sugar (RBS) levels and blood pressure rate respectively. Food frequency table was used to assess food consumption pattern. Results Result showed the mean standard deviation as follows: Body mass index; 26.29 ± 4.1, Waist hip ratio; 0.86 ± 0.34, Random blood sugar; 112.51 ± 23.0, Systolic blood pressure; 115.4 ± 23.0 and Diastolic blood pressure; 88.45 ± 4.3 (BMI, WHR, RBS, SBP and DBP respectively) Bivariate correlation analysis showed that SBP, DBP, RBS and WHR had positive correlation with BMI while confidence level was at 0.05% (0.206 P = 0.005, 0.16 P = 0.031, 0.081 P = 0.0021 and 0.148 P = 0.000 respectively). WHR also had stronger correlation with RBS (0.90 P = 0.278), systolic (0.272 P = 0.002), diastolic (0.21 P = 0.045). This confirms the assertion that WHR should be used as an indicator of cardiovascular disease not BMI. The study also revealed that 3.6% were underweight. 49.0%, 29.9%, 17.5% accounted for normal, overweight and obesity respectively. Blood pressure levels were marginal as 30.04%, 35.4%, 34.3% were normal, pre hypertensive and hypertensive respectively. Most of the respondents had normal blood sugar (91.2%). Conclusions The overweight, obese and those with elevated WHR had higher values of RBS, SBP and DBP. Confirming that, overweight and obesity are consistent parameters associated with cardiovascular risks. There is need for promotion of a healthy life style, regular exercise and proper nutrition. Food consumption pattern are predictors of health and nutritional status. Bangalore is one of the rapidly urbanizing South Indian megacity with a population of 11 millions. Study highlights gradient changes with reference to food consumption pattern and Body Mass Index (BMI) among households in the rural-urban interface of Bangalore. A total of 300 middle income households were selected by purposive random sampling technique. Standardized schedule was used to collect information on food consumption pattern and BMI using standard protocols. Consumption of energy dense foods was significantly more than adequacy. Average dietary diversity score was less than 50 per cent which is indicative of routinely consumption of only few food groups among households. Fried (51.4%) and Readyto- eat (51.0%) foods consumption was more frequent in rural. Prevalence of overweight (24.5%) and obesity was more in urban (7.1%). Overall, incidences of overweight and obesity were more compared to underweight. This reveals, that there is a need for intervention and promotion of diversified and functional foods to address overweight and obesity, which are the root causes for non-communicable diseases in order to protect health and nutritional status of individuals along rural-urban interface of Bangalore.

In view of the numerous challenges associated with contemporary meeting practice in an ever growing technologically driven society, the general purpose of the study was to determine how virtual meetings influence successful decision making process in the Nigeria banking sector. This descriptive research adopted a cross-sectional survey approach in investigating a homogenously characterised section of the sector in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Eighteen (18) banks were chosen based on the convenience in accessibility and a census of all the senior managers including Information Technology based personnel were drawn for study. Thus, a census population derived was 216. A 5-point Likert Scale structured close-ended questionnaire was designed and adopted for data collection from the targeted respondents. This instrument was further validated for face/content validity and subjected to Croubach’s Alpha reliability test. Data collected were tested and analysed using the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient statistic and presented for clarity using the SPSS. Findings revealed the moderating effect of technology for virtual meetings and decision making success in the industry studied. Also, significant relationships exist between the different dimensions of virtual meetings and measures of decision making success in the banking sector and therefore recommendations were made in support of their adoption.

The aim of the paper is to identify changes in the food consumption of urban and rural households in Poland when it comes to sustainable consumption as well as evaluate if such changes are becoming more or less sustainable. Sustainable consumption is an element of sustainable development, which responds to the basic needs of people while not jeopardizing the needs of future generations. More sustainable food consumption is perceived to be a reduction of overconsumption, a decrease in the consumption of highly processed food and a shift in diet based less on animals and more on plants. The paper is mainly based on data from the Polish Central Statistical Office concerning meat, fruit and vegetable consumption. Some data about food waste were also used. The research shows that the food consumption pattern in rural households is less sustainable than in urban ones. Households living in rural areas consume more meat and less fruit and vegetables than urban ones. There is some evidence that the food consumption pattern in Poland is shifting towards a less sustainable one.
