Streaming video is a process of transferring moving images or video over the internet in a compressed form to viewers so that it can be viewed in real time. Streaming video technology is becoming more powerful all the time and appreciable works have been done in this area. However, security and adaptation of video are still problems to be tackled in the area of video streaming. In this paper, a secured and adaptive HTTP video streaming system (SAHVISS) was designed. The system was implemented using PHP, HTML5, Angular JS, Java Script and SQL Server database. It was tested on different computers and mobile devices using various web browsers. SAHVISS consist of four components namely Video Source, Streaming Server, Distribution Server and Client. The Streaming Server is made up of two sub-components namely the media encoder and the streamer. The server requires a media encoder to converts raw (uncompressed) digital video to a compressed format while the streamer breaks the encoded media into segments and save them as file. The distribution server comprises of Content Delivery Network and the Web server which delivers media file and the index files to the client over Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP).  The performance of SAHVISS shows that it provides an efficient technique for solving the issues of adaptation and privacy/security of streaming video content. It is a robust, secured and an adaptive http video streaming system.

The media streaming server technology have been developed in the recent past using free software and open source approaches. But commercial approaches are preferred by certain multimedia big enterprises. These enterprises dominate the mobile media delivery business. For this reason we think it is interesting to discover the main characteristics of the principal commercial platforms to deliver mobile video streaming to mobile devices and its main key features: Media and delivery components. We will give our vision on: Real Networks’ Helix Media delivery components based on RTSP and Microsoft’s IIS Media Services based on HTTP. The aim of this book chapter is to provide detailed insight into these different streaming approaches and how these platforms and protocols aid in building flexible streaming applications for mobile devices. A comparison among these approaches is also provided and also we present the delivery of video streaming to Apple mobile devices in the two commercial approaches.

Academic libraries face many challenges in collecting and maintaining streaming videos, particularly as demand for this unique format continues to increase. At the Oviatt Library at California State University, Northridge, it was determined that streaming video activity needed to be examined and that there was a strong need to develop a workflow for incoming video requests. A Video Streaming Decision Tree Committee composed of librarians and staff from various units within the library including collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, and music and media. Its charge was to create a decision tree workflow for incoming streaming video requests. The committee designed and implemented a detailed decision tree that accounts for many of the complexities of streaming video. This paper discusses various factors involved with collection development for streaming video and provides a detailed description of the committee’s workflow for the format.

As video-streaming services have expanded and improved, cloud-based video has evolved into a necessary feature of any successful business for reaching internal and external audiences. In this article, video streaming over distributed storage is considered where the video segments are encoded using an erasure code for better reliability. We consider a representative system architecture for a realistic (typical) content delivery network (CDN). Given multiple parallel streams/link between each server and the edge router, we need to determine, for each client request, the subset of servers to stream the video, as well as one of the parallel streams from each chosen server. To have this scheduling, this article proposes a two-stage probabilistic scheduling. The selection of video quality is also chosen with a certain probability distribution that is optimized in our algorithm. With these parameters, the playback time of video segments is determined by characterizing the download time of each coded chunk for each video segment. Using the playback times, a bound on the moment generating function of the stall duration is used to bound the mean stall duration. Based on this, we formulate an optimization problem to jointly optimize the convex combination of mean stall duration and average video quality for all requests, where the two-stage probabilistic scheduling, video quality selection, bandwidth split among parallel streams, and auxiliary bound parameters can be chosen. This non-convex problem is solved using an efficient iterative algorithm. Based on the offline version of our proposed algorithm, an online policy is developed where servers selection, quality, bandwidth split, and parallel streams are selected in an online manner. Experimental results show significant improvement in QoE metrics for cloud-based video as compared to the considered baselines.

The performance improvement on SIP-based VoIP server is given in this paper. The signaling server “SIP Proxy Server” and media streaming server “Media Relay Server” are applied. Firstly, the performance of VoIP server is analyzed and evaluated in detail. Then the effective method is applied to improve the performance of VoIP server. In the analysis results of SIP Proxy Server, the CPU time for the registration and call-setup sessions need 3.241 ms and 7.985 ms respectively. Moreover, in the Media Relay Server system, when the packet size from 1 to 32 bytes, the maximum throughput of packet is about 82,000 and 16,000 per second for UDP and TCP respectively. The large the packet, the less throughput is tenable. There are three methods applied to improve the performance. The capacity by 31 times is achieved. The capacity with 3,524 calls for each Media Relay Server is achieved. The improved method proposed in this paper is reasonable.

Peneliti mencoba memahami Netflix sebagai entitas bentuk platform film Menggunakan penjelasan Richard A. Spinello mengenai Etika Maya (cyber-ethics) dan argumen Richard A. Spinello terkait Governing and Regulating the Internet yang dipubikasikan pada Artikel ACM SIGCAS Computers and Society tahun 2000 dengan judul Excerpt from CyberEthics: Morality and Law in Cyberspace. Berdasarkan Excerpt From CyberEthics: Morality and Law in Cyberspace ada solusi yang ditawarkan oleh Richard A. Spinello (2014) adalah Internet Governance/ Tata Kelola Internet. Selain melakukan Direct State Intervention, negara juga bisa membuat literasi terhadap membangun kesadaran cyber-ethics. Pemahaman Cyber-ethics dapat ditumbuhkan dengan memahami cyber wellness

A systemic approach to identifying road locations that exhibit safety problems was provided by the Safety Needs Identification Program (SNIP and SNIP2) developed by the Purdue University Center for Road Safety (CRS). The new version SNIP Light has been developed to provide other uses with planning level traffic safety analysis capability for a wider range of uses including Metropolitan Planning Agencies (MPOs) who want the tool for planning cost-effective safety programs in their metropolitan areas. The SNIP Light reduces the demand of computing and data storage resources and replaces the SQL server database system an integrated module coded in-house which is considerably faster than the original component. Furthermore, certain proficiency required to install and use the old version is no longer needed thanks to the intuitive single-window interface and executing file operations in the background without the user’s involvement. Some operations, such as optimizing funding of safety projects, are removed to simplify the tool.

Wireless video streaming, and specifically IPTV, has been a key challenge during the last decade, including the provision of access to users on an always best connected basis using different wireless access networks, including continuous seamless mobility. There are different proposals including IP based video streaming, DVB-H, or MediaFLO to carry out IPTV and video streaming on demand to users in a wireless environment, but one of the most relevant elements is the architecture of the service, with all the components of the delivery process. In this work the authors propose an alternative architecture based on a wireless Content Delivery Network, optimized to distribute video to mobile terminals in order to create a triple screen platform; considering that the main available wireless access networks are WiFi, WiMAX, and 3G, this work focuses on the last two. Surrogates within the CDN architecture act as video streaming servers, while the origin servers in the content providers carry out the transcoding process in order to be compliant with individual client requirements.
