Nowadays Thai farmers confront with the slowdown of rice price problems and the more increasing price of materials. Thus, the expense exceeds the revenue and the farmers do not have enough money. Because paddy rice that farmers sold are contain of more moisture more than 15%, thus the quality of paddy rice is not good. Therefore, the price is cheap based on the quality of paddy rice. Moreover, the consumer demands of rice are steady throughout the year but the rice products are sold by the farmer only after the harvest period. As a result, the price decreased during that period. The merchants/middlemen usually stock rice and resell again afterwards. The paddy silo is the concept for bulk storage of paddy; silo can control storage conditions which will constantly maintain the quality of paddy and prevent access by the rodents, birds and insects. After keep the paddy in silo for the period, the paddy will be sold to the market again at the suitable period. In addition, the qualities of paddy products are not change and the moisture in the paddy will meet the standard.

Abstract The quality of hops is significantly affected by the content of alpha bitter acids. Maintaining it with minimum losses lies within the competence of both the hop grower and processor depending on how they follow the optimum harvest technology, storage conditions, and post-harvest hop processing. That indicator is considerably affected by the hop storage method, i.e. whether the warehouse is air-conditioned or not, as well as the storage duration. The alpha bitter acid content should not be reduced during storage. The objective of this paper is an analysis of the alpha bitter acid content in the Saaz hop variety in a technological sequence of operations starting with drying at the grower and finishing with six-month storing at the processor, with three storage variants: an air-conditioned warehouse, non-conditioned warehouse, and a variant in which the square bale is moved after 60 days from a non-conditioned warehouse into an air-conditioned warehouse. The analysis of samples to identify the alpha bitter acid content was carried out by means of the ASBC Hops-6 and the HPLC EBC 7.7 methods. Practically in all cases the alpha content declines, although if a square bale is placed in an air-conditioned warehouse this decline is the lowest depending on the storage duration. The economic analysis shows a significant profit referring to the price of alpha contained in 1 t of hops stored in an air-conditioned warehouse. At the date of 1/11/2015 this profit was 14 706 CZK, at the date of 4/1/2016 it was 7646 CZK, and at 1/3/2016 the profit was 6587 CZK.

Abstract: India is a country with a booming population and limited resources. 40 % of food grains are being wasted annually out of the world’s production due to factors like improper post-harvest management, lack of storage spaces, storage facilities, handling and distribution of food grains, etc. Thus an effective solution is required to bridge the gap between surplus production and hunger. The objective of our project is to develop methods for retaining the quality of food grains under a controlled environment for effective storage and distribution. Automation using sensors helps to prevent illegal racketing with data collection, monitor storage conditions like temperature and humidity levels, and eliminate man-to-man contact. When dispensed, the level and quantity of the grains can also be recorded. Thus, this machine is better than the existing manual methods of distribution as it acknowledges fair distribution and quality preservation. The influence of storage conditions on the quality of tomato fruits was tested. The rate of ripening was established in normal air, where tomatoes ripen quickly, under controlled atmosphere where they ripen more slowly and under low pressure, where they ripen slowest. The influence of post-harvest benomyl or methylthiophanate treatment on tomato rot, ripening, and biological value were examined. Post-harvest tomato treatment did not reduce fruit rot. The color of fruits and the processed products depended on the fungicide treatment. Concentrated tomato pulp made of fruits treated with methylthiophanate was redder than the others. The fungicide treatment increased or decreased the level of some chemical substances in the fruits in dependence on the applied fungicide, storage conditions and the length of storage, e.g. tomatoes treated with benomyl and stored for 14 days contained the highest level of vitamin C under 0% CO<sub>2</sub>:3%O<sub>2</sub> and tomatoes treated with methylthiophanate contained the highest level of vitamin C under 38 mm Hg. Degradation of vitamin C in pulp was faster than in the concentrated pulp. Tomato pulp made of tomatoes treated with methylthiophanate contained the lowest level of vitamin C.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the post-harvest quality of bananas (Musa x paradisiaca L.) Prata-anã and Nanica after application of exogenous ethylene (C2H4) during maturation. Bananas of Prata-anã cultivar were harvested 18 weeks after the anthesis (WAA) and those of Nanica cultivar with 13 WAA. After harvest, the fruits were submitted to 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 applications of 15 mL of ethyl-5/m3 in refrigeration chambers at 15ºC and later stored at room temperature (24 to 28ºC) and refrigerated at 15°C for 10 days. Peel color, fresh weight loss, firmness, total soluble solids, total bark chlorophyll, total bark and pulp carotenoids were evaluated at 0, 3, 4, 7 and 10 days after harvest (DAH). The Assistat program was used in statistical analysis. Among the storage conditions, fruits kept under refrigeration had a longer shelf life. The Prata-anã cultivar was superior to Nanica, presenting maturation indexes ideal for transport and commercialization, evaluated for the interactions of storage temperature, ethylene (C2H4) applications and storage time. It was concluded that the banana Prata-anã requires 3 and Nanica 4 applications of ethyl, for the harvest with 18 and 13 weeks, respectively, in order to promote a fast and uniform maturation.

Floral exchange markets drive steadily growing interest in ornamental plants sold as cut flowers. Unfortunately, vase life of some of these flowers remains unsatisfactory. Their ornamental value depends on their longevity and number of flowers, as well as overall appearance of the stem during its vase life. Our study determined the effects of storage conditions and Floralife flower food on vase life and ornamental value of Crocosmia ×crocosmiiflora ‘Lucifer’. Crocosmia inflorescences can be attractive cut flowers after meeting some basic requirements. Cutting the branched shoots when the first flower in the main inflorescence was fully open, the second was opening and the subsequent buds showed visible color allowed for maintaining their decorative value for an average of 18.8 days, irrespective of storage conditions and flower food. Vase life and ornamental value depend on storage conditions. Keeping the inflorescences in a semi-lit room (16.8 µmol∙m–2∙s–1), at 18–20°C, and relative humidity of 55–60% or in darkness, at 14–16°C, and relative humidity of 60–70% reduced the number of developed flowers, inflorescence weight and the amount of absorbed solution, and also declined inflorescence vase life. Application of Floralife 200 and Floralife 300 flower food increases the vase life by respectively 7.9 and 8.2 days vs. water, and improves the quality of stored inflorescences.

The coal as fired, with unidentified characteristics of the coal gangue, was burned on a 300MW circulating fluidized bed unit. The equipment of the coal conveying system was damaged and the boiler operation was unstable. In response to the problems, the coal quality data and storage conditions of the coal were examined and the site was spot-checked to evaluate the coal quality characteristics. At the same time, the typical representative parameters of the coal handling system and boiler operation were selected. According to the analysis of coal quality and coal storage, the coal quality fluctuates greatly and the uniformity of particle size distribution is poor. There is actually the coal gangue with hard texture and hard to grind in the coal pile. The coal gangue will have adverse effects on the fine screening machine, fine crusher and other equipment. After burned this type of coal, the fluidized quality of the boiler bed is degraded to make an impact on the safe and stable operation of the boiler. It is recommended that the coal should be screened and then burned into the furnace to ensure safe and stable operation of the boiler.

One of the main problems faced by libraries, archives and collectors is the mold degradation of the paper-based documents, books, artworks etc. Microfungi (molds) emerge in regular storage conditions of such items (humidity, usually over 50%, and temperatures under 21 °C). If the removal of the visible mycelium is relatively easy, there is always the problem of the subsequent appearance of mold as the spores remain trapped in the cellulosic, fibrillary texture, which acts as a net. Moreover, due to improper hand hygiene bacteria contamination, old books could represent a source of biohazard, being colonized with human pathogens. An easy and accessible method of decontamination, which could offer long term protection is therefore needed. Here, we present a facile use of the ZnO nanopowders as antimicrobial agents, suitable for cellulose-based products, conferring an extended antibacterial and anti-microfungal effect. The proposed method does not adversely impact on the quality of the cellulose documents and could be efficiently used for biodegradation protection.
