Traumatic damage to the teeth and oral tissues are the most common causes of tooth fracture. Because of their location in the oral cavity, front teeth in the upper jaw are the most commonly fractured. Sports, car accidents, and physical violence are the most prevalent causes. Cracked teeth are often diagnosed by visually inspecting the tooth (preferably utilizing microscopes). The size and form of the fracture plane are not always determined by looking at the crack line. One factor that contributes to the difficulty of effectively making an endodontic diagnosis is the inability to visualize the depth of the fracture through a clinical exam alone. Transillumination, microscopes and dyes are a useful tool for finding and diagnosis of the crack, treatment of the crack depends on the type, extend of the crack as well as the condition of the patient. In this review we’ll be looking at the diagnosis, etiology and management of fractured teeth.

Orbital floor fractures are the most commonly encountered traumatic fractures in the facial skeleton. Mydriasis that is detected during orbital floor fracture reconstruction may cause significant distress to surgeons, as it may be associated with sinister events such as visual loss. It is not an uncommon problem; previous studies have shown the incidence of mydriasis to be 2.1%. The combination of careful preoperative evaluation and planning, as well as specific intraoperative investigations when mydriasis is encountered, can be immensely valuable in allaying surgeons’ anxiety during orbital floor fracture reconstruction. In this review article, the authors discuss the common causes of mydriasis and present a novel systematic approach to its diagnostic evaluation devised by our unit that has been successfully implemented since 2008.

Lower limb injuries account for most of all injuries suffered by athletes and the knee joint accounts for over half of these. The etiology of knee pain is multifactorial; a good history focusing on the mechanism of injury and the chronicity of pain is extremely useful in correlating with radiologic findings and establishing a clinically meaningful diagnosis. This review article will discuss several important and common causes of acute and chronic knee pain in athletes, focusing on their mechanism of injury and site of pain as well as their salient imaging findings.

The absence of a patent ear canal, which can be acquired or congenital, is known as Aural Atresia. The most common cause of acquired Aural Atresia is an inflammatory response to trauma or otologic surgery. Although rare, acquired Aural Atresia is most commonly found after external ear trauma, such as car accidents, gunshot wounds, or recent otologic surgery. The main treatment of Aural Atresia is surgical, also the invention of bone anchored hearing devices provide greater alternative solution, each methods has its advantages of disadvantages, we hope In the future of developing more effective treatment options.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the most common causes of sleep disordered breathing in children. However, it is associated with significant morbidity, potentially impacting on long term neurocognitive and behavioural development, as well as cardiovascular outcomes and metabolic homeostasis. Diagnosis and treatment of this condition in children differs in many aspects from that in adults. In this review article, we will describe the pathophysiology, clinical features and laboratory testing and measures needed for treatment of this disease.J Dhaka Medical College, Vol. 25, No.2, October, 2016, Page 124-128

Adnexal masses are commonly found on imaging of patients presenting to the emergency department with pelvic pain. Depending on the clinical context, emergent surgical exploration may be warranted. In this review article, we discuss the most common causes of adnexal masses requiring emergent surgical treatment, to include ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion, ruptured hemorrhagic cyst, and tubo-ovarian abscess.

The review article presents a contemporary view on the most common causes of hereditary and acquired thrombophilias and their role in the development of venous and arterial thromboses. The examination of patients in accordance with modern requirements consists in determining the causes and risk factors for blood clot formation, as well as implementing secondary prevention of recurrent thrombosis. Analysis of genetic and acquired hemostatic disorders allows us to identify a group of patients who require long-term anticoagulant therapy and mandatory anticoagulant prophylaxis in cases involving a high risk of thromboembolic complications.

The mandibular fracture has as its most common causes car accidents, physical aggressions, falls and accidents in the removal of teeth, among others. However, facial injuries caused by firearms are still a cause of great health concern, which can cause great aesthetic and functional damage to the patient, in addition to the loss of quality of life. The therapeutic choice for treatment will depend on the severity of the case and mastery of the technique chosen by the professional. The aim of this article is to report the treatment of a patient with bilateral fracture of the body and mandible branch, resulting from aggression by firearm projectile. Having as treatment established the extraoral access with installation of plates and screws 2.0 mm on the right and left side, because it is a good treatment option for comminuted fractures caused by firearm projectile, returning to the patient aesthetic, functional and psychological aspect.

In many countries, COVID-19 now accounts for more deaths per year than car accidents and even the deadliest wars. Combating the viral pandemics requires a coordinated effort to develop therapeutic protocols adaptable to the disease severity. In this review article, we summarize a graded approach aiming to shield cells from SARS-CoV-2 entry and infection, inhibit excess inflammation and evasion of the immune response, and ultimately prevent systemic organ failure. Moreover, we focus on mesenchymal stem cell therapy, which has shown safety and efficacy as a treatment of inflammatory and immune diseases. The cell therapy approach is now repurposed in patients with severe COVID-19. Numerous trials of mesenchymal stem cell therapy are ongoing, especially in China and the USA. Leader companies in cell therapy have also started controlled trials utilizing their quality assessed cell products. Results are too premature to reach definitive conclusions.

In dogs and cats, the most common causes of dental injury are fights with other animals, car accidents, falls from a height, and chewing on hard materials such as bones or rocks. The trauma more often causes fracture of the teeth, but sometimes avulsion or luxation can occur. Avulsion is the complete displacement of the tooth out of the alveolar socket and luxation is the partial displacement of the tooth. Tooth luxation and avulsion represent dental emergencies. Time is an important factor for successful treatment; the prognosis becomes poorer the longer the tooth is out of the socket. This paper describes the guidelines for treatment of dental displacement in cats and dogs and presents six cases of dental lateral luxation in dogs seen at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (VHUP) in the period from May 1996 to September 1997.

This is only an informal remark about some difficulties I am worrying about.I have tried to recalibrate the MK system in terms of intrinsic colour (B–V)0and absolute magnitudeMv. The procedures used have been described in a review article by Voigt (Mitt. Astr. Ges.1963, p. 25–35), and the results for stars of the luminosity classes Ia-O,I and II have been given also in Blaauw's article on the calibration of luminosity criteria in vol. III (Basic Astronomical Data, p. 401) ofStars and Stellar Systems.
