Overcoming diversity and equity challenges in healthcare is no small feat for healthcare facilities, professionals, and the healthcare industry at large. This chapter will bring awareness to healthcare disparities that transpire because of the lack of equity which can occur when diversity is finite. It will identify and explore how diversity and equity have been omitted from medical facilities and look at the impact of the presence of diversity and equity on both consumers and medical personnel. In addition, it will uncover factors that contribute to negative outcomes at the virtual level and uncover ways to reduce inefficiencies and negative outcomes caused by the lack of diversity and equity in healthcare.

Abstract Radial fractures often require surgical stabilization with fracture fixation plates. Incomplete morphological reconstruction was linked to poor outcome such as limited forearm rotation. Pre-contoured plates are often used, but large inter-subject morphological variations may result in poor fit. Therefore, the goal of this study was to develop a reliable virtual measure of plate-to-bone fit. In addition, the study evaluated the accuracy with which 3D printed bones reproduce the morphology of the physical radius. Virtual models and 3D-printed models of six cadaver radii were produced from bone scans. Level of fit of pre-contoured plates were measured in three ways: directly on pre-contoured physical plates fitted to cadaver bone; pre-contoured physical plates fitted to 3D printed bone; and virtual plate models fitted to virtual bone models. In addition, the study evaluated the accuracy with which 3D printed bone reproduces the physical bone morphology. The results indicate excellent agreement between the physical and virtual level of fit measures as well as excellent geometrical accuracy of the 3D-printed bones. These provide the necessary foundation for guiding the development of better fitted pre-contoured fracture fixation plates as well as for developing pre-surgically patient specific pre-contoured plates.

This paper presents the use of virtual level (VL) probes as an alternative image-based approach to investigate the interaction of waves with coastal structures in wave flume experiments. These probes are defined as regions of interest located at specific positions along the horizontal domain of the images, in which edge interfaces are detected and, thus, their vertical motions can be obtained. To demonstrate the use of the methodology, a critical condition of breaking waves interacting with a Cubipod homogeneous low-crested structure (HLCS) in a two-dimensional framework was selected. With the video recorded from the experiments, image calibration, processing, and analysis stages were implemented to analyze the performance of the HLCS in reducing wave elevations and to study the stability of the armor units. The present approach can be extended to a wide range of coastal structures applications where the interface detection between components of the scene is useful to observe the behavior of coastal structures, increasing effectiveness and alternatives to acquire precise data in 2D experimental tests.

AbstractOne of the most striking features of gapped quantum phases that exhibit topological order is the presence of long-range entanglement that cannot be detected by any local order parameter. The formalism of projected entangled-pair states is a natural framework for the parameterization of gapped ground state wavefunctions which allows one to characterize topological order in terms of the virtual symmetries of the local tensors that encode the wavefunction. In their most general form, these symmetries are represented by matrix product operators acting on the virtual level, which leads to a set of algebraic rules characterizing states with topological quantum order. This construction generalizes the concepts of $${\mathsf {G}}$$ G - and twisted injectivity; the corresponding matrix product operators encode all topological features of the theory and provide a complete picture of the ground state manifold on the torus. We show how the string-net models of Levin and Wen fit within this formalism and in doing so provide a particularly intuitive interpretation of the pentagon equation for F-symbols as the pulling of matrix product operators through the string-net tensor network. Our approach paves the way to finding novel topological phases beyond string nets and elucidates the description of topological phases in terms of entanglement Hamiltonians and edge theories.

The article examines the topic of determinants affecting the features of the practical implementation of ideas in the context of a digital society. The features of the digital model of society as a version of the post-industrial society are presented. The urgency of rethinking the problem as a determinant of social development has been substantiated. The essential features of the main trends of the digital society are analyzed and identified, which include the traditional interpretation of the inevitably distorted embodiment of ideas in social phenomena. Demonstrated are the changes represented by the identity of individuals and brought to the coalescence and the virtual level of being. The inevitability of taking into account the systemic effect of implemented ideas, which affects not only the sphere of their direct implementation, is noted. Theatricalization of digital society in the spheres of public life is highlighted. The problem of simulacra is actualized, allowing powerful actors to distort the original meaning of ideas in their own interests. The emphasis is made on the importance of linguistic analysis for adequate perception and understanding of the content of ideas. In conclusion, generalizations that form the theoretical and methodological basis of practical applications in the society of the digital world.

The authors of this article proceed from the fact that, as a result of the intensive development of digital technologies, a digital society has formed an understanding of life, in which many habitual social practices have been transformed into digital ones. In particular, digital technologies have contributed to the fact that communication on personal, social and commercial issues has moved to a different, virtual level. However, in a number of areas, digital communication causes problems and communication disruptions. For example, previous studies have highlighted high levels of consumer dissatisfaction with companies using digital communication tools. Especially a lot of criticism is caused by answerphones, recently widely popular and used increasingly by public and commercial institutions. The article examines the new ways companies use to deliver their message to an existing or potential customer, as well as the quality and customer ratings of some of these solutions. In addition, the authors tried to identify factors that influence consumer satisfaction when communicating with companies in the digital environment. The main research methods are analysis of previous projects results, interviews and online survey. The article is based on the results of the research conducted in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The city residents expectations for the automated communication system used in the modern world between the user and the service provider in case when communication is initiated by the consumer to solve his problems were studied on the example of telecommunications companies. These expectations were divided into six groups, and a comparative quantitative assessment of consumer expectations and the actual quality of communication was made. A low level of satisfaction with new ways of communication between companies and consumers was detected, and factors influencing consumer attitudes were identified. In general, the study showed that the formed factors determine the priority directions of transformation of the communication practices of companies and are the basis for the balance of technologies and human resources at the enterprise.

This Paper represents a motivational approach of integration of two domains of two different streams and this paper constitutes the two parallel roads in one platform. Perhaps it’s a challenging task to make this sort of Integrations but with the development of new tools like TIBCO B.W this has come to reality. This Paper is a moxie to represent an application into its physical level of representation to its virtual level of journey. In order to conjoin two topologies into a single topology this paper constitutes an involuntary approaches to make a small application of software which is already existed into reality. The future scope of this paper might be a successful application that turns an IOT application into the software boom which comes into reality.

Life experience is what makes us who we are. I started my career in academia as a fieldwork coordinator in fall 2013, so I learned quickly that securing traditional fieldwork sites can be difficult. I am certainly a fan of faculty led fieldwork and have used this approach. In spring 2017, I was excited to find out that I was expecting my first baby however in the summer of 2017, at the 20-week anatomy ultrasound, my excitement turned to tears as we found out our baby had a Neural Tube Defect (NTD) and the most severe type of spina bifida (myelomeningocele). I was then introduced as to what I call the “spina bifida underworld” private pages for moms who were considering fetal surgery, moms who had fetal surgery, moms who had post-natal repair, pages called united by spina bifida, blogs from various individuals with spina bifida etc., I have personally found these pages to be a wealth of knowledge and have made many friends in unexpected places.

The article proposed a method for overcoming the dead ends that arising during movements of the android robot's hand in an organized space along the velocity vector. In a dead end situation, the algorithm cannot calculate next configuration, which will allow the center of output link to be shifted at a given speed and positioning accuracy to the next point of the trajectory. The proposed method is based on the calculation of the permissible positioning accuracy of the center of the output link in order to change the position of the arm configuration relative to the forbidden zones with deviations from the specified path. The positioning accuracy in this case will depend on the width of the corridor in which the center of the output link can move freely, as well as on the distance between the center of the output link and the boundaries of the corridor. An algorithm is proposed using this method and the implementation of a test example confirming the verification of the performance of this algorithm is presented. The developed algorithm for the synthesis of movement along an arbitrary trajectory of the center of the output link allows one to determine the reachability of target points with the use of an automated method at the virtual level in the presence of forbidden zones. In this case, the given geometrical dimensions of the forbidden zones and objects of manipulation are taken into account. This algorithm can be used in the development of intelligent control systems for autonomously functioning robots that move objects of manipulation without the participation of a human operator.
